00:04But unfortunately, even in places like Kashmir, it's turning into an environmental hazard.
00:09Our ground report from Srinagar has prompted a wave of reactions on social media, rightly so.
00:16Those reactions has prompted again the Kashmir government to take note of, in fact, this massive wasteland that's lying in
00:23Srinagar.
00:24It's seeping into the lakes, it's polluting the lakes of Srinagar.
00:28This is a report filed by Meer Fareed for India Today, which has now led to authorities also assuring that
00:35they will crack the wind.
00:38Behind me, what you're seeing is not an ordinary mountain.
00:42This is unique because it's a mountain of garbage, of untreated waste in the heart of Srinagar city.
00:49An ecological disaster in many ways.
00:52But this is the only dumping site that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has.
00:56And from 1986, if the official records are to be believed, the National Green Tribunal team was here.
01:03And they were told by the local government that around 11 lakh metric tons of waste is already here.
01:10And that's why you can see these mountains of garbage.
01:13And as you come here, two kilometer radius is filled with stink.
01:19And even if you're blindfolded, you come to this area, you'll come to know that you have reached Aachen.
01:26And that is really the tragedy of the times where everywhere in the world you have sewage treatment,
01:32you have these civic issues treated in the most scientific manner.
01:36And here all that is missing.
01:38Srinagar, because it's a paradise, so on the other side of it, people are very frustrated.
01:43One year old, you'll get a visible change in the Aachen Dam side.
01:47And you'll get the garbage from the far away, you'll get the garbage from the far away, you'll get the
01:52leachate, you'll get the garbage from the far away.
01:55The second is our construction and demolition waste, which is running there.
01:58That is a separate project altogether.
02:00We've almost completed that project.
02:03So I think that in the next two months, we should be on the verge of inaugurating that project.
02:07So the construction and demolition waste that was dumped on the city, that was already in waste site, that was
02:11going to be done.
02:12The third is the fresh waste.
02:14That's what we will do with the new waste, which is what we will do with the new waste.
02:16Already the government has approved a new project, that is the Integrated Solid Waste Management Program.
02:21And currently, the rest of the other stages that is going on, once it is allotted,
02:26we are doing the PPP and it will continue to live for 25 years.
02:31So whoever has come to the firm or whoever has come to the firm will establish it and then run
02:37it for 25 years.
02:39And its capacity is much higher than the waste that is dumped at the dump site right now.
