It’s time for a little vs large showdown!
Mat’s brought along his own Suzuki Jimny, and it’s about to go head-to-head over the quarter-mile against an absolutely huge Hummer H2!
So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the Jimny, it’s powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder that can produce 101hp and 130Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels only by a 5-speed manual gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,135kg. As new, it cost just £22,000.
Then we come to the Hummer. The H2 is powered by a 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that can put down 398hp and 563Nm. All this power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at a colossal 2,850kg! When new, the Hummer H2 cost from around £45,000.
So the Hummer is well up on power, but it’s SO much heavier! Will this weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

00:00We're going to have a David and Goliath drag race battle. So here I have a Hummer H2 and I'm
00:07going
00:07to be racing it against my little Suzuki Jimny over the standing corner mile to see which is
00:12quickest. That has six litres, that has like 1.5 litres. You'd think it was a foregone conclusion
00:16but it's not. I'm Matt Watson and you're watching Galway. The Suzuki Jimny has a 1.5 litre
00:25natural aspirated four-cylinder engine with 101 horsepower and 130 newton metres of torque.
00:31It drives the rear wheels in normal mode via a five-speed manual gearbox. The car weighs in at
00:351,100 kilograms and it cost me £22,000 when it was new. The Hummer H2 has a 6.2
00:43litre natural
00:44aspirated V8 with 398 horsepower and 563 newton metres of torque. It has four-wheel drive and a
00:50six-speed automatic gearbox. The Hummer weighs in at 2,850 kilograms and costs around £45,000 to
00:57import from the USA. So Brad, what do you think is going to happen here mate? Honestly, I think I'm
01:03going to have you off the line but I think you might be able to reel me back in. How
01:07slow is that thing?
01:08The Jimny doesn't reel anything back in. It can barely reel pedestrians back in. It's the size of a
01:14boat. This is going to be one of the slowest drag races ever. At least I have an excuse for
01:19going
01:19slowly because I've only got 1.5 litres whereas, remind me, what have you got? So this has a six
01:25litre Vortec V8 but again it's an American V8 so it's very underpowered for the size. First thing
01:31we're going to do anyway, Brad, is a sound check and you are going to win this because this is
01:35what
01:35my Jimny sounds like. It sounds like 1.5 litres of 100 horsepower-iness. Ready?
01:46Is it on? Yeah, it's on.
01:51My turn.
01:55Oh dear.
02:06Sorry, is your car on?
02:08Yes.
02:09I can't hear anything. Let's try something else. How about a horn tester? This is my horn.
02:15Hi. You alright? I've got 100 horsepower. Let's hear your horn. This isn't much better,
02:22you know. A bit better but it doesn't sound like the rest of the vehicle. It's not quite
02:27right for the car. Okay, let's race. That's enough of that.
02:31Oh, there is one interesting feature of this car that no other car has, I don't think.
02:35Um, is it the weirdest rap known to man? No. One button every window. I quite like that. That's
02:43like the fart button, isn't it? So if you fart, window's down, vent the car. Okay, do you use
02:49that quite a lot?
02:50On camera, no.
02:51No. It's a yes. Now I'm trying to find, like, a button that I have that you don't have. Um,
02:57oh, actually, I've got a button that washes my headlamps. Is that doing anything? Oh. Um.
03:07Okay, so I've got a button that shows headlamp washer that doesn't actually do anything. Have
03:12you got a button that operates but doesn't actually do anything? Uh, this is American,
03:16so there's a lot of buttons that don't seem to work anymore. Um, no, this, this probably
03:21never worked. All right, let's just stop messing around and get on with this race. I'm trying
03:26to delay because I think I'm going to get humiliated. Oh, I've stalled. It's not a good start.
03:32All right, here we go. Come on.
03:34Three, two, one.
03:38Come on. No.
03:46Oh, a little chirrup.
03:56He was just blooming plain, mate.
04:03That's way faster.
04:09Come on, mate.
04:14My engine's probably going to explode.
04:21That's annoying. I had traction off and it kind of came back on. Let's try again, though.
04:27So you won, but things didn't happen as we thought. You thought you would beat me off the
04:32line. You didn't. But then you definitely just cruised past.
04:35That's the first time in this car's history that someone has actually beat me off the line
04:41and then I've actually caught up with them. It's the wrong way around. Okay, it's best
04:46two out of three, though, so we're going to have another drag race. I need to take at least
04:49a second or so at the quarter mile time. I don't know if this is feasible.
04:54Three, two, one.
04:59That was a good one.
05:01Oh, he's beat me off the line again.
05:07Come on.
05:14And why does it put the traction back on again?
05:16Stupid car.
05:18It's coming past now.
05:20Oh, it's closer. It's closer.
05:27No.
05:32Come on, Jimny. This is closer.
05:41Oh, mate. That was the closer race that was.
05:45You managed to just come past me, stay ahead and then keep ahead.
05:49What did you do to that car? Because that seemed to want to pull towards the end.
05:54Yeah, no, he wasn't pulling towards the end. It was all right off the line.
05:57I don't think I'm going to beat yours.
06:00But I might beat you in the next race. But before that, here's the thing.
06:05So then what exactly happened? Well, the Hummup one. It completed the standing quarter mile in 18.8
06:11seconds. The Suzuki took 19.1 seconds.
06:16First, if you want to sell your car quickly, easily, and for a fair price, then head to Carwow to
06:21have over 4,000 trusted dealers ready to bid on it in an online auction.
06:26First, enter your car's registration to get an instant approximate valuation.
06:30Then, if you want to proceed, give us some more details and upload some photos and we'll help you set
06:36a fair reserve price for your car.
06:38That's the minimum amount you'd be happy to sell it for.

06:48touch to arrange easy payment and free collection of your car.
06:5293% of sellers surveyed said they got the price they expected, or more, through CarWow.
06:59The best bit is...
07:01It's completely free!
07:03I've put a link in the description of this video and the pinned comment to take you directly to CarWow,
07:09where over 4,000 dealers are ready to bid on your car.
07:13Or you can just click on the pop-out button that should be appearing in the top right-hand corner
07:16of the screen now.
07:18Alternatively, just Google Help Me CarWow and we will help you sell your car quickly, easily and for a fair
07:24price.
07:25On with the video.
07:25What we're going to do is roll into this race from second gear and it's going to be around 30
07:30miles an hour and we'll race to the half mile and we'll see which one wins.
07:35But we'll also look down as we're passing the half mile cones to see what our top speed is because
07:39it could be quite interesting to see how low our top speeds are.
07:42Yes, because I think this thing struggles to get above 85 really.
07:46I think I have the same problem.
07:47One thing is for sure though, your car costs a lot more money to go slowly than mine does.
07:53But then again, I get a whole lot more car for the money.
07:56That is true.
07:57That is true.
07:58We're cruising along and I'm going to call it in now.
08:00Three, two, one, go.
08:03Always kick down.
08:15Right, here comes the quarter mile.
08:22Oh no!
08:23Oh no!
08:23It's gone into fourth!
08:29I'm coming back at him!
08:30No!
08:37Oh!
08:39This is going to be close!
08:40Come on, little chimney!
08:42It's coming back at me now!
08:43No!
08:44Okay!
08:45Why has it gone up again?
08:46No!
08:52Oh no, he's just changed gear and he's had it!
08:55Oh ho!
08:56Oh ho!
09:00Oh!
09:01Yes!
09:03Oh!
09:05So I was doing about 85 there, I think.
09:07What were you doing?
09:08Because I came past you at the end.
09:10I thought you were going to come back at me, but then your car changed up gear and that
09:13was the end of you.
09:14Yeah, it was about 75-ish and it decided then to change up into fourth.
09:19I can't believe that my car is quicker than your car in a roll.
09:22I mean, six litres.
09:24What's the miles per gallon you get out of that?
09:25It ranges anywhere from like four to about eight or nine maybe.
09:30Eight or nine at best?
09:33Yeah.
09:34It's slightly **** isn't it?
09:36But also very, very cool at the same time.
09:39I mean, it's miles per miles, isn't it Matt?
09:41I'll get that for my Jimny.
09:43Do you know what we should do though?
09:44Off-road battle next time.
09:45Well, I've seen what you do to Hummers when you go against an off-road.
09:52And I don't really want to brake this because you seem to kill these things.
09:55Yeah, that wasn't me, it was the driver.
09:57But anyway, let's do one last test.
09:59We are going to do a brake test.
10:02We'll do it from 60 miles an hour.
10:03Yeah.
10:03Yeah, okay.
10:04Okay.
10:05Now, if you'd rather watch another drag race, just click on the pop-out banner appearing in
10:09the top right-hand corner of the screen.
10:10Or just follow the QR code on screen now using your mobile phone.
10:14Here's the cone coming now.
10:17Oh my God, that's scary.
10:29Oh God, stop, stop, stop.
10:34Did you hit the brake pedal?
10:35My stomach's just fallen out of where it shouldn't have done because that was terrifying.
10:39I wouldn't be driving that back, especially not as you're towing.
10:42You just stay in there, okay?
10:43Don't get out.
10:44I just want to do something.
10:46What I'm going to do is actually measure it.
10:471, 2, 3, 4, 27, 28, 29, 50, 51, 52, 69, 70, 71,
11:0780, 80 metres.
11:09What happened?
11:10The ABS didn't really want to kick in, so it wasn't really braking.
11:14But I won the drag race.
11:15That's all that matters.
11:16But honestly, how do you stop on the road?
11:19Was it because the brakes got hot from just stopping after that last rolling race or something?
11:24We'll go with that.
11:25We'll go with that.
11:25Did you press the brake pedal?
11:26It was to the floor.
11:29It was surprisingly alarming, really, because that is some distance.
11:33Yeah, but hang on.
11:34You stopped really well.
11:36No, but I mean...
11:37Really well.
11:38So my car would have stopped in about 34 metres.
11:41Right, that's what most cars will stop from, from 60 miles an hour.
11:44Yours has taken over 100 metres.
11:48If you take my 35 metres and your 80 metres.
11:52Do you want to just check your brakes again?
11:53Because I'm a little bit concerned about this.
11:55Err, yes.
11:56Should we try again?
11:57Well, I don't want to try again, because it's rather funny.
11:59I mean, I don't mind trying again, because this part of time I'm going to try and put the pedal
12:02through the floor.
12:04Because we have just done a drag racing weekend at Santa Pods, so the brakes might be a bit...
12:08Oh no, we had new pads a couple of weeks ago.
12:10Yeah, go on.
12:11Let's just try it again.
12:12Shall we try it again?
12:13Yeah.
12:16Here we go, braking.
12:30OK Brad, a bit better than before if you just stay there.
12:34Let's just see what it is this time.
12:361, 2, 3, 4, 18, 19, 20, 31, 32, 37, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40.
12:48Well done Brad.
12:50Say a lot better.
12:50That's half the gap that it was before, so only 40 metres ahead of me.
12:56Yeah, I think ABS didn't want to kick in that first time.
12:59You're classing this as a successful brake test.
13:02This is successful.
13:04Is it not?
13:06It's like 75 metres to stop from 60 miles an hour.
13:10So that's more than one metre per mile an hour from a relatively low speed.
13:15I will get your brakes checked.
13:16Anyway, thanks for coming down Brad.
13:18Not a problem.
13:19Not a problem.
13:20Make sure you're nowhere near me on the road when you're driving this back.
13:23Thank you very much.
13:24I hope you all enjoyed the video, if you did give it a like.
13:27Would you drive this car?
13:28I don't know if I would.
13:31Anyway, let us know in the...
13:32Sounds fun.
13:34Let us know in the comments anyway.
13:35If you want to watch some more videos, just click on the video windows.
13:37And if you want to compare these cars quarter-mile times to everything else with a drag race,
13:42then hit the CarWow logo to check out the CarWow Drag Race leaderboard.
13:46Thanks for watching.
13:47See you next time.
