00:02I know you experienced a difficult couple of days a player in that defeat of Bournemouth in 2009 from the
00:07dug-out.
00:08Was that the worst feeling today, losing like that to the new players?
00:11No, it was worse. I think it's a game that we've lost. It's hugely disappointing, of course it is.
00:21We came here to win, like we do any game, so to not take anything away is hugely disappointing.
00:29It's not more than that, it's not less than that, it's just the one game that we're disappointed we haven't
00:33won.
00:33So, we've got to soak it up and come back stronger.
00:38The whole manager said that the training ground routine they worked on on Friday, the set pieces that worked with
00:44the goals,
00:44was there anything that jumped out to you that you thought was particularly troubling?
00:49No, it's two completely different goals really, so it's not time to dissect it as such.
00:56I think we've been pretty good over a period of time. Today they've obviously scored two in different ways,
01:02you know, so I guess why that's highlighted, I understand that, but it happens.
01:08Sometimes it happens in football, but we don't accept it, but it happens and we've got to understand why.
01:15I know there's a lot of noise around United and it's easy to get carried away.
01:19Always is, yeah.
01:21How do you sum that up? Because I think your team were more passive than people expected,
01:25and I know you said this was going to be a tough challenge, but I don't think anyone expected the
01:29whole week.
01:30No, but that doesn't mean you're passive just because you get beat, it's just, you know, the result's the result.
01:34So, we accept it, you know, we got beat, we're hurting, it's not a nice feeling at all.
01:40It doesn't mean it's going to change the whole direction of how we're going as a team or as a
01:45football club, you know.
01:46It's one game and results can happen in football, we all understand that.
01:52It's not nice when they do, but it does happen. We can be better, we will be better, there's things
01:57we can be much better at.
01:59There's things that are actually alright that get lost in the game because you get beat, but I understand that
02:04as well.
02:06Michael, most people have said that your calmness, winning and losing, is one of the key attributes for you dealing
02:17with this job.
02:18But do you also understand that games like that, that generates a huge amount of debate and negativity and people
02:27expect a kind of reaction from you, even though that's not your kind of general demeanour or approach?
02:36I know there's a lot that goes on outside of our football club, yeah. I understand the responsibility I've got,
02:42but it doesn't make me do things differently just because of that.
02:47Steve, hi Michael. Do you feel like your system's having some issues against teams that have been able to back
02:51five?
02:51I'm thinking back to the Leeds game, 2-1 at Old Trafford, obviously AC Milan last weekend. Is it a
02:56coincidence?
02:57Do you think there's something potentially there?
03:00We haven't lost many games for six, seven months. So again, I get it, we've lost today and I understand
03:06it and there's questions to be asked, but it doesn't mean everything's wrong because we've lost the game.
03:11We've done a lot of good things and we've done a lot of good things and we did some good
03:13things today, but it gets lost and I understand it'll get lost, but it doesn't get lost from our point
03:18of view.
03:20So yeah, there's definitely issues playing against different systems, you know, so we've got to find the answers for that,
03:26but it's just because we lose one game doesn't mean that everything needs dissected and it's wrong from our point
03:31of view.
03:32I understand from others, it happens and that's how it is.
03:49I'll pass fine, I'll pass fine, we love him to bits, so he's a fantastic player, he's a great character,
03:56he's a big part of what we do and he will be.
03:58So it's, it was just one of those decisions. It's not for personal. Sometimes you just got to make them,
04:05you know, and try and do something a little bit different.
04:07Rob? Hi, Michael. Do you find it easy in these situations to remain quite calm? Obviously, it's part of your
04:12personality, but you've mentioned the noise and what people will say after this.
04:16But do you find it quite easy just to kind of put your foot on the ball and say that
04:19we don't need to rip everything from one game and move on?
04:23There's a difference how you say calmness, you know. I'm talking to you quite calm, but I'm not exactly kind
04:28of calm inside and enjoying the day, you know.
04:33So there's a big difference and I played here for a long time. You don't get to play here for
04:39a long time without just going day by day.
04:41The result, there's ups and downs, but you just carry on as normal. It's 100% not that and trust
04:46me, it's not that.
04:47It just doesn't mean that we all have to shout and scream and come out and create some chaos just
04:53because of it, you know.
04:54Inside, we're hurting. The boys know and we need to get better. The calmness doesn't mean that. There's no emotion
05:00in it, for sure.
05:01Chris, and the last one for Laurie.
05:03Hi, Michael. You've played six games this season. There were a lot of good points from what you saw.
05:08How big a shock today was it for you, that defeat and the manner of it?
05:13Yeah, we got beat by two set plays, so the goals are the goals. Pre-season as well, you know.
05:21Whatever way it goes and whatever happens, season's a season in itself.
05:27I'm not sure I can remember too many pre-seasons whether we've had success or not.
05:30So, it puts you to a starting point to then make the next step.
05:36We've lost a game and we have lost one game and it's not a nice one to lose, first game
05:40of the season.
05:43But it won't change what we do and knock us moving forward.
05:46Was there anything that you saw in pre-season that might prepare you for what happened to the team?
05:56Like warning signs and things like that?
05:58Nah, there's always things that happen all the time.
06:02Things that we say that we like.
06:04Sometimes we say the little habits or patterns that we want to improve on.
06:08That's fine.
06:08But just because we lost the game today, we don't have to dissect the whole picture.
06:13Because it's definitely not bad.
06:15I don't mean to dissect this, but I think you had 49 goals legal on the pitch at the end
06:19with Rashford, Fernandes, Bruno, Cunas, Esco, Olympic.
06:23Can you put your finger on why that didn't necessarily click into then putting more pressure on the whole goal?
06:30Yeah, we changed things around a little bit second off and we kept trying to find a different way,
06:34a little bit of finding a spark.
06:36It happens.
06:37It does happen.
06:37It has happened before.
06:39We've just got to keep finding them solutions.
06:43Ben's been out for quite some time and hasn't trained an awful lot.
06:48There's kind of little bits of reasons for it.
06:50Brian's been really good for a lot of pre-season and was one of our better players again today.
06:56All right, guys.
06:57Thanks a lot.
