Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in dharna outside the Parliament Street Police Station and DCP office in Delhi for over five hours. The protest was held to demand the registration of a First Information Report regarding a pellet gun incident involving victim Sahil. Following the sustained demonstration, Delhi Police registered an FIR against an unknown person based on the complaint filed by Sahil. Senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Randeep Surjewala, Jairam Ramesh, and Kumari Selja, were present inside the police station premises during the standoff. Meanwhile, scores of Congress workers gathered outside the gates in support. Reporting from ground zero outside the Parliament Street Police Station, reporter Rahul Gautam stated that the police had earlier cited a Supreme Court-directed Special Investigation Team to decline registering a separate FIR. However, after the five-hour sit-in, the police registered the FIR based on the victim's complaint.

00:00All right, let's cut across to some more updates coming in from that Dharna Rahul Gandhi has been sitting on
00:05outside the Parliament Street Police Station.
00:07Delhi Police is now registered in FIR regarding the pellet gun incident.
00:11So after four hours, a little more than four hours, in fact, of Rahul Gandhi being there outside the Parliament
00:18Street Police Station,
00:18we now have the FIR which has been registered.
00:22Randeep Surjewala, Priyanka Gandhi currently at the DCP's office, we are told.
00:27The FIR is based on the complaint filed by Sahil.
00:29It is registered against an unknown person at the moment, while no specific name will appear in the accused column
00:37just yet.
00:38So FIR against unknown person filed by the pellet gun victim, Rahul.
00:44Let's cut across to the other Rahul in this case, not Gandhi I'm talking about.
00:48I'm talking about my colleague Rahul Gautam, who's been bringing us up to speed with everything else that's been happening.
00:53Rahul, I see you outside the Parliament Street Police Station now.
00:56Now tell us what next.
00:58FIR has been registered.
00:59Where are the leaders now?
01:12Rahul, if you can hear me, now that the FIR has been registered, what's happening there?
01:27Well, obviously Congress will now claim victory and I would go around to say that they have bent the government
01:33on this issue.
01:34Remember, you know, it's now close to five hours since Rahul Gandhi sitting here at the DCP office of Parliament
01:42Street Police Station.
01:44And not just Rahul Gandhi, in fact, there were Priyanka Gandhi Vatra, Jai Ram Ramesh, Kumali Shailja, all the other
01:50senior leaders inside the very premise of Parliament Street Police Station.
01:55And outside there were scores of Congress workers.
01:59Expect, because of the fact that Congress Party has been insisting that an FIR should be filed in this regard,
02:05then only they'll be leaving the place.
02:06Otherwise, Congress is not going to budge from their stance.
02:09And that's why I expect that now, given the fact that an FIR has been registered against unknown person on
02:17the basis of the complaint of Sahil Lochab, expect that this is going to be a breakthrough or some sort
02:22of a truce.
02:23And in all likelihood, Rahul Gandhi will be vacating this place.
02:28But one thing is very important here, that Congress will now go forward and create a narrative that they have,
02:35in a way, the government has succumbed to their pressure.
02:38It was Rahul Gandhi who's leading the charge at the very forefront as far as student causes concern.
02:44And remember, you know, it was a great optics on the part of the Congress Party.
02:49Many in the party believe.
02:50Why? Because Rahul Gandhi got Sahil Lochab earlier also on 14th, you know, on 24th of July.
02:58And in fact, on 14th of August, he went on to a police station to get this FIR registered.
03:05When he's claiming that he was refused to get his FIR registered, then only he tried to get political support
03:12from Rahul Gandhi,
03:13which Rahul Gandhi readily offered and came all the way to the Parliamentary Street Police Station to get this FIR
03:21registered.
03:22And now, after five hours, since if Rahul Gandhi would be leaving from this device...
03:26Rahul, could you also take us through some visuals there, just trying to understand what's happening to the protest as
03:32we speak.
03:32Is Rahul Gandhi still there? Is he leaving?
03:36What exactly is he going to make a statement? What's happening next?
03:49Well, I'll just show you, actually, what is happening on the Ground Zero.
03:53I'll ask my camera person to just pan the camera around, show you about the activities that are going here.
04:01Rahul Gandhi, you can see, is still waiting here for the copy of FIR.
04:04As we speak, we've been informed that Vrandeep Singh Surjewala and Priyanka Gandhi Wadra, they are getting this, you know,
04:15the entire process done.
04:17Because, obviously, they've been demanding this for past five hours.
04:21Earlier, the Delhi police refused to do so, saying that there's already an SIT, which has been constituted at the
04:28directions of Supreme Court.
04:30And therefore, they can't really do much and can't really file a separate FIR.
04:34But Rahul Gandhi was...
04:35Now, you just see the...
04:36These are the visuals of the Parliament Street Road.
04:39And you can see there are scores of Congress workers because of the fact that gates are closed.
04:45Nobody is allowed to enter into the premise.
04:47But still, the Congress workers are holding the ground just outside the office, DCP office.
04:54And it was quite unprecedented, given the fact that LOP Lok Sabha coming all the way to a DCP office,
05:02holding a dharna.
05:03And Congress is saying that this also shows how the situation is so grim in the country that LOP had
05:09to come only to get an FIR registered,
05:12which many of them are saying has been a norm in the country, like zero FIRs, the very complaint that
05:19you give, actually get transformed into an FIR.
05:23But here, in this case, they were not able to do so.
05:26And that's why Rahul Gandhi himself intervened, ensured that the FIR get registered and expect that now Congress would claim
05:33victory
05:34and also vindication of their leader, that's Rahul Gandhi, saying that he is the one who has now emerged as
05:41one of the most popular leaders of youth and Gen Z.
05:44And that's why he's taking up their cause.
05:47All right, that's interesting.
05:49Visuals there that Rahul Gautam is showing us.
05:51Inside you have the Congress leadership and outside you have Congress workers who have reached as well.
05:58Rahul Gandhi, five hours and counting, has managed to get the FIR registered, a very Gen Z style of protest
06:04that he has conducted.
06:06And at the moment, it looks like he's had his way.
06:09The Delhi police has given in to register that FIR.
