00:06for offenses including political insult and spreading false news. Amusu was accused of
00:12running the anonymous Freumvi account whose audio messages criticized former President
00:17Patrice Stallone's government. He consistently denied being behind the account. He was arrested
00:23in neighboring Togo in August 2024 and transferred to Benin in what his lawyers described as an
00:29abduction. His lawyer confirmed his release on Tuesday. The case became one of Benin's most
00:35prominent prosecutions of a government critic amid accusations that authorities have increasingly
00:40restricted dissent. Several opposition figures and government critics have also received lengthy
00:47prison terms in recent years.
