At 21, She Was Sent to the Vietnam War as a Nurse

At just 21 years old, Cindy Mason Young became a U.S. Army nurse during the Vietnam War.
In 1969, she was assigned to the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam, where she worked in the only neurosurgical unit in the country. She treated soldiers suffering from devastating head and spinal injuries, along with other serious combat wounds.
The nurses worked 12-hour days, six days a week.
Young later described the experience as one that changed her both as a woman and as a nurse. �
