00:00Maz, take it away.
00:00Okay, so here's what we went with this week.
00:03Christian Gonzalez in the middle of a contract negotiation with the Patriots.
00:08We'll see how this goes.
00:09But premium defensive player got me wondering
00:11who have been the great defensive players in Boston sports history.
00:17So I had to put a little bit of a spin on this or a wrinkle on this
00:20because there is a gray area sometimes.
00:23I'm not necessarily looking for people who just play defense.
00:27And the reason I say that is that many sports have two-way players,
00:31basketball, baseball, hockey among them.
00:33And hockey really gets the most gray.
00:35So what I want is people who are known for their defense.
00:39People who are known for their defense.
00:42As an example, Bobby Orr and Ray Bork played defense.
00:46I would argue Bobby Orr was known primarily as an offensive defenseman
00:50and so was Ray Bork.
00:51But Bork's a little closer to the bone
00:53because he was also a very stout defender in front of his own net, etc.
00:58But I didn't put either one of those on the list.
01:00I just want to give people some parameters.
01:02I'm looking for people who might have been good offensive players,
01:05but they were known for defense.
01:08Everybody got that?
01:09Yeah.
01:09Yeah, I got it.
01:10Okay.
01:11I just want to make sure.
01:13We'll start with Tier 3.
01:14Jimmy Stewart, hit the music.
01:17It's all about the music, Jimmy.
01:19Murray came up with the tune.
01:21Tier 3, Dennis Seidenberg with the Bruins, Zidane O'Chara's partner.
01:25I thought Dennis Seidenberg was an excellent defensive defenseman.
01:30Stout, moved people in front of the net,
01:32was a partner of Zidane O'Chara during the cup run.
01:35Seidenberg, to me, almost exhibits this perfectly,
01:38except he was here a short period of time,
01:40and I wouldn't call him a great, great.
01:42Bruce Bowen, this was a nominee by Jimmy Stewart.
01:45It's a good one.
01:45He wasn't here a very long period of time.
01:47I think he was all defensive team six times, eight times,
01:52something like that.
01:53Bruce Bowen, tremendous, tremendous defender.
01:56This one was offered up by Felger.
01:57I would have forgotten that it's a good choice.
01:59Steve Casper, years ago, played center for the Bruins,
02:02was their checking center.
02:04I think Wayne Gretzky was on record as saying that nobody trailed him,
02:08recovered him better, checked him better than Steve Casper of the Bruins.
