00:01UMNO will discuss its political direction for the Melaka election on August 28th,
00:06including whether to cooperate with other parties or contest on its own.
00:11UMNO Supreme Council member Ahmad Mazlan said the meeting will be chaired by President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
00:17and will focus on the best strategy to secure a Barisan Nacional victory in the state.
00:22He told reporters that no final decision had been made on cooperation,
00:26despite public discussion over possible deals with Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.
00:32Ahmad urged party members to abide by the eventual decision,
00:36noting that BN needed to consider the political situation in each state.
00:40The Melaka State Assembly must seek a new mandate by February next year.
00:45BN won 21 of the 28 seats in the previous Melaka election, while PH secured 5 and PN took 2.
00:52However, in keeping with the spirit of the unity government at the federal level,
00:57PH Assemblymen were named as Executive Councilors.
01:00But in July, PH withdrew from the state administration following the passage of a constitutional amendment
01:06allowing the appointment of up to 7 unelected Assemblymen.
