00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered an investigation into possible financial irregularities involving a Kazanah Nasional Berhad subsidiary.
00:09Speaking at a Temu Anwar session in Klang, Anwar said any breach of governance must be investigated, regardless of who
00:16chairs the Sovereign Wealth Fund.
00:18The matter surfaced after Kazanah reviewed its past operations and found doubts over the governance of a company set up
00:25in 2012.
00:26Anwar said Kazanah's board decided at a meeting this morning to investigate all relevant aspects of the matter so that
00:33the issue could be cleaned up.
00:35In a statement, Kazanah said it had highlighted legacy issues involving Saraya Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary founded 14 years
00:43ago.
00:44Saraya manages Kazanah's life sciences investments.
00:48According to Kazanah, Saraya's board identified irregularities in July involving past transactions that required further review.
00:57Separately, Anwar said investigations into alleged wrongdoing highlighted in the Tabung Haji and Felda RCI reports were not politically motivated.
01:05He stressed that the Police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would decide whether investigations were necessary, while prosecution decisions rested
01:14with the Attorney General.
01:15Anwar said the government would not interfere in investigations or prosecution decisions, adding that punishment was decided by judges, not
01:23the Prime Minister.
