00:11Akbar Zainal, 43, was charged with reckless driving that caused the deaths of Shaikh Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 52, and his
00:20daughters, Siti Norshazlin Shaikh Firdaus, 24, and Siti Darwisha Shaikh Firdaus, 12.
00:27He is accused of committing the offences at about 1 a.m. on August 19th.
00:33Three charges were framed under Section 41, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act, which carries a jail term of
00:405 to 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 upon conviction.
00:46Akbar also faces a charge of careless and inconsiderate driving that caused injuries to Nur Hayati Razali, 54, and another
00:55charge of running a red light.
00:58The prosecution proposed RM15,000 bail along with orders for Akbar to surrender his passport and report to the police

01:07His lawyer, Izzat Amir Saharuddin, sought lower bail, citing Akbar's 11 years of service with the Immigration Department, clean criminal
01:16record, school-going child, and responsibility for his elderly mother in Kedah.
01:22Magistrate Alia Anwar fixed the bail at RM60,000 for all five charges and ordered Akbar to report to the
01:29police every month.
01:31She also ordered his driving license to be suspended until the case is concluded.
01:37Earlier, it was reported that the Immigration Department had suspended the officer involved in the crash pending the outcome of
01:44police and internal investigations.
