Tamil Nadu Chief Minister meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Southern Zonal Council meeting to address major policy concerns. The Chief Minister calls for a NEET exemption in Tamil Nadu, proposing that MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH admissions be determined by Class 12 marks rather than the national entrance examination. Additionally, the Chief Minister raises the issue of delimitation, stating that public policy must not penalize southern states for fulfilling national objectives or diminish their political representation. The discussion also covers broader inter-state matters affecting southern states.

00:01Now, Vijay is raising the NEAT and delimitation issues with Home Minister Amit Shah.
00:07The Tamil Nadu Prime Minister, I beg your pardon, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is in a meeting with the
00:13Home Minister
00:13and now Vijay is seeking a NEAT exemption for Tamil Nadu.
00:18According to the reports that are just coming in, the Chief Minister Vijay has said that NEAT is not for
00:24socially disadvantaged students.
00:26And delimitation also must not diminish the voice of the South.
00:31The two big points that have been raised by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in his meeting with the Union
00:38Home Minister.
00:40In fact, Vijay is saying that public policy must not penalise the states.
00:46The southern states should not be penalised for fulfilling national objectives.
00:52Apoorva is joining me on this story.
00:55Apoorva, two big points raised by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister when it comes to his meeting with the Home
01:02Minister.
01:02One, the delimitation issue.
01:04The second being the MBDS Ayush admissions that should be based on class 12th marks and not a NEAT exam.
01:14Two big ticket policy issues, two big ticket political hot potatoes really, hot flashpoints really that have been raised.
01:22What more can you tell us about this meeting?
01:28Well, that's right, Anisha.
01:29In fact, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Joseph C. Vijay, has gone ahead and made very pertinent points here.
01:34Let me remind you.
01:35One, on the NEAT examination.
01:37Remember, Tamil Nadu time and time again, we've seen government after government coming and going,
01:42calling for a ban on the NEAT examination.
01:45And very much so because with the protests that have been fueling Tamil Nadu and across this country just recently
01:51last month,
01:52we saw right from Jantar Mantar up till down south, we saw the protests that were fueled by students there,
01:58demanding for the resignation of the Education Minister, Dharminder Pradhan,
02:01and also calling for a recall of the NEAT examine.
02:05Just on those lines, even in Tamil Nadu politics, we saw a similar scenario playing out,
02:10where in opposition parties, including the AI, ADMK, DMK and several others,
02:15were calling out, demanding why the Chief Minister's silence was on the NEAT.
02:19And right now, the Chief Minister Vijay has given a response, which is that, you know, they won't need to
02:27be banned.
02:28And not only that, the Chief Minister has also gone ahead and reiterated that those marks that the students get,
02:33you know, be it in the medical seats for passing class 12 examination, that alone can suffice.
02:39That has been the norm that has been followed in Tamil Nadu since time, we can say.
02:43And that's the same, that they want the structure to also be reshaped, is a point that Chief Minister Vijay
02:50has gone ahead and talked.
02:51Not only that, let's talk about delimitation.
02:53The Chief Minister has gone ahead and clearly stated the Tamil Nadu government's standpoint on delimitation.
03:00It's not about no delimitation, it's not about fair delimitation,
03:04but rather that the state's representation will be called into question.
03:09And that's something that the Chief Minister will not, you know, assent to.
03:14Or rather, that's something the Chief Minister will not go ahead and give an okay to.
03:18And a very strong statement there coming in by Chief Minister,
03:21wherein he has called for a safeguarding Southern representation.
03:25Remember, this is not just the first Chief Minister in this meeting.
03:27Looking at this Southern Zonal Council meeting, really,
03:30where the Home Minister is meeting the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister,
03:34he's also meeting other Chief Ministers.
03:36And these issues have been a major point of contention.
03:41We've seen Tamil Nadu, of course, raising these issues,
03:44whether it's delimitation, whether it's need earlier also.
03:47Are you picking up anything further from this meeting that has happened?
03:53Well, in fact, important decisions that are being taken place right now,
03:57because these discussions, let me remind you, are not, you know, just on one of issues.
04:01These are issues relating to the Southern states, issues that are interlinking between, you know, one or two states.
04:08You have the Kaveri water issue when it comes to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
04:12So you see both the Chief Ministers, D.K. Shif Kumar and Joseph C. Vijay,
04:16going ahead and placing forth the demands of the state there.
04:19When it comes to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, you see, you know,
04:22demands of the Pulavaram Bankacharla project and the AP Reorganization Act,
04:27which is after both the states are bifurcated,
04:30those demands that are being put forth, the Union Home Minister...
