00:03Recently, private space firm Astrobotic attempted a world first, putting a lander on the moon
00:09without the help of a national space agency.
00:11While the launch was partially successful, an explosion on board shortly after its rocket
00:15separation meant the lander would never make it there.
00:18But now there's a development.
00:20Experts say the spacecraft is coming home and is expected to enter Earth's atmosphere
00:24out of control.
00:25Right now, the craft is some 242,000 miles from Earth, or around the same distance as
00:31the moon.
00:32Initially, many were anticipating the craft would still make it to the lunar surface, crashing
00:36down rather than having a safe landing.
00:38That would still provide the team with more lunar data, though that eventuality now seems
00:42impossible.
00:43With Astrobotic posting on Axe, quote, our latest assessment now shows the spacecraft is on a
00:49path towards Earth, where it will likely burn up in Earth's atmosphere.
00:52They went on to write that they are also assessing all options, as the spacecraft careens back
00:56towards our planet.
00:58Astrobotic already has another launch scheduled for later this year, hoping to set a lander
01:02on the moon's face by November.
