00:03Is Bigfoot real? Probably not, but that doesn't mean hikers and hunters don't still claim to
00:08have seen him. However, to get to the bottom of this hairy mystery, researchers continue
00:12to investigate, and they may have finally figured out what those sightings really are.
00:16According to a new analysis, researcher Flo Foxen has found that Bigfoot sightings are
00:20far more frequent in areas with black bears. Historically, those who spot Bigfoot say he
00:25stands between 6 and 9 feet tall. That's not too far off from adult black bears when standing up
00:30bipedally, which are around 4 to 6.5 feet in height. In fact, the now peer-reviewed study found that
00:35for
00:36every 1,000 black bears in a particular area, Bigfoot sightings increased by 4%. In fact, there
00:41was one Bigfoot sighting for every 5,000 black bears in 2006. Foxen also discovered that nearby human
00:47populations also changed the data as well, with more people near forested areas also meaning more
00:52Bigfoot sightings. And that metric was also true in places like Florida, where there are
00:56actually fewer bears, but larger populations of people near forested areas.
