00:00DAP's decision to remain in the unity government has been described as a strategic move to retain
00:06influence ahead of the 16th general election. University Science Malaysia analyst Sivamurgan
00:12Pandian told FMT that staying in government keeps DAP at the decision-making table and gives it
00:17influence over policy. But Sivamurgan warned the decision is a double-edged sword as DAP must
00:23also share responsibility for the unity government's weaknesses and failures.
00:28University Technology Mara's Mujibu Abdul-Muiz similarly described the move as pragmatic,
00:34arguing that the political cost of leaving the government outweighed any benefits.
00:40At DAP's special congress on Sunday, 1,857 of 2,099 delegates voted to remain in government.
00:50The party has suffered major electoral setbacks in Sabah, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, although it
00:56remains Pakatan Harapan's best performing component. DAP has given Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim until
01:03year-end to deliver key reforms, including separating the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor roles
01:09and limiting the Prime Minister to two terms. Sivamurgan rejected claims that staying in government
01:15betrayed DAP's principles, but warned that power without principles could erode its identity.
01:21He added that GE16 would ultimately determine whether the party made the right call.
