00:00A couple bought a tiny house in the Ozarks and discovered more than 40 cats waiting for them.
00:06There was a tipping point where we started calling this the cat tornado.
00:12But what shocked them the most was that Joshua literally dreamed about this years earlier.
00:19Joshua and Faye were no strangers to adapting, living with disabilities they had spent years
00:25traveling the country together and dreaming of one day finally settling down. Then everything changed.
00:31We were living life being newlyweds and then by dinner time I was on my way to the emergency room
00:38and he was already in brain surgery. A devastating gun accident left Joshua with a traumatic brain injury
00:45and in a medically induced coma. Proof that every single thing can change in a blink and I told
00:52every single emergency personnel that I don't care what you do to save my husband. And they did.
00:59Joshua woke from that coma with one very specific dream, rescue 100 cats.
01:07100 cats? And he said yes, 100 cats. I said okay we can work on the number but we'll get
01:15it done.
01:16I've always been interested in helping rescue animals.
01:19Years later the couple was closing on a house in rural Arkansas.
01:23Our original goal was to buy land and build that into a homestead from scratch.
01:27The closing process took four months. During that time the previous owner moved away,
01:33inexplicably leaving behind an entire colony of cats.
01:40When move-in day finally arrived, they were shocked. I mean I would be too.
01:49There was no food, water or safe shelter.
01:53They were all emaciated and thin, sick and pregnant. We started finding kittens once a week.
02:00With time they learned how to bottle feed newborns, trap the adults, raise money for
02:05veterinary care and even get the entire colony spayed and neutered.
02:14We were having to learn to do all of this stuff. Building a plane as we flew. Yeah there you
02:19go.
02:19That's what we were doing. Today 42 cats call Sunshine Pines home. If we didn't
02:26take them to be spayed and neutered then more kittens would come and so we were just like turning
02:31and burning as quickly as we could. And while caring for them with disabilities of their own
02:38isn't easy, Joshua and Faye say that the quiet moments make everything worth it. Anything we can do to
02:45make their lives better. We're trying it. When every cat is fed, safe and finally able to rest,
02:53they know that the dream Joshua had in the hospital has become real.
03:00The cats are currently up for adoption. Instead Joshua and Faye are asking for help finishing up their
03:06sanctuary and donations for daily needs like food, litter and vet services. We've been trying really
03:13hard to get a catio started. With three arms between us and both being disabled in the hot Arkansas summer
03:20progress was slow. These cats would not be here in the shape they are in now if it weren't for
03:25people
03:26helping us out and choosing kindness. Because after everything they've survived they all deserve a place
03:33that is built just for them. And the humans need your help to do it.
03:43It is lugares that people have never imagined. And ultimately we have to create a catio
