00:00Let's talk about cryptocurrency options trading, right?
00:03Today, we'll be comparing two platforms in particular, that's Deribit and Evo.
00:08As we understand that crypto options are no longer just one market now,
00:12they've split into two very different worlds, right?
00:15On one side, you have a platform like Deribit, BTC and ETH options,
00:20liquidity, tight spreads, professional Greeks, portfolio margin,
00:25cross-collateral, Friday expiries and institutional flow,
00:30as well as having Coinbase ownership, right?
00:34On the other side, you have Evo, right?
00:36Which is a self-custodial settlement, DeFi native access, USDC-based options.
00:43And then you've got pre-market token perps and on-chain settlement
00:47through a custom Ethereum layer too.
00:50So what is the difference here?
00:52Of course, both of these two different types of platforms matter.
00:56They don't save kind of, or more or less serve the same type of trader profile.
01:04On the one hand, you have Deribit, which is the institutional standard for serious BTC and ETH
01:09options trading, right?
01:11If you need tight execution, you want portfolio margin, delta hedging,
01:16larger size or advanced volatility strategies, Deribit is the clear leader in that field.
01:22Evo is more interesting for DeFi native traders who value self-custody,
01:29that they want pre-market token exposure as well and can tolerate a little bit of thinner liquidity.
01:35So the biggest mistake that a lot of people are making is treating these two platforms as direct substitutes.
01:42A strategy that works on Deribit can fail on Evo because the spreads are wider,
01:47the books are thinner and dynamic hedging is harder.
01:51And a trader who wants self-custody may still prefer Evo, right?
01:56But they must also accept a smart contract sequencer oracle and liquidity risks.
02:02So the platform comes down to, you know, the real trade of stuff for you as a individual trader.
02:09Deribit gives you liquidity and professional tools, but it is centralized effectively, right?
02:14And KYC-based, Evo gives you self-custody and pre-market access,
02:19but liquidity and capital efficiency can be some limitations.
02:24So the bigger warning is that crypto options are not beginner products, right?
02:28You must understand things like delta, gamma, theta, vega, implied volatility,
02:35settlement currencies, margin and expiry risks, and all of this before you do live trading.
02:41So if you're new, maybe you start with a demo account because crypto options,
02:46at the end of the day, if you choose the wrong platform, that can be an expensive mistake.
02:50But choosing the right strategy actually even matters so much more.
