00:02Guided onto the beach at Agnes Water, Steve Fox can already tell the surf's not great just by hearing the
00:09ocean.
00:10Very small. Really, really small. But, you know, the water's warm, the sun's out, it's good.
00:17The 60-year-old from New South Wales completely lost his eyesight to retinitis pigmentosa about a decade ago.
00:24But it doesn't stop him from jumping on a board, feeling the rush as he rides into shore.
00:31You just rely on the movements of the ocean, which way the wind's blowing, which direction the swells and the
00:39sounds are coming from, and obviously having someone in the water with you.
00:43Acting as a guide is a first for local instructor Shane Silver, calling out directions and helping to line up
00:50waves.
00:51What he does is something really, really amazing. But, yeah, it's something that I'm sure brings him lots and lots
00:59of happiness.
01:00Steve says his goal is to spread awareness and motivate the blind and vision impaired community.
01:07He wants others to be out enjoying the waves like him.
01:11Surfing is very cruisy. The water's soft if you fall off, just don't fall on your board.
01:17And once you're used to the ocean, it's, you know, I'd say go for it.
01:23Find somebody that can take your surfing and give it a go.
01:25It's always a surfist story. It is.
