00:10At UFC 302 in Philadelphia, Gary stepped into his first UFC title fight against Makhachev,
00:18the former lightweight champion who was chasing a record-breaking 17th straight UFC victory.
00:24Makhachev controlled much of the fight with his wrestling and grappling, but Gary refused
00:30to fold.
00:31After struggling early, he found more success as the fight went on, especially with his
00:36striking and ability to defend takedowns.
00:39Still, Makhachev stayed composed through all five rounds and won by unanimous decision,
00:45with the judges scoring it 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47.
00:52That victory gave Makhachev his 17th consecutive UFC win, moving him past Anderson Silva's
01:00previous record of 16.
