00:00100 years after Fidel Castro's birth, his name brought together voices from across the
00:05global south in the Chinese capital, in tribute to a leader whose influence extended far beyond
00:10Cuba.
00:11Our correspondent Bruno Falsis attended the event and brings us the following story.
00:17The Jintai Art Museum in Beijing hosted a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of
00:24Fidel Castro's birth, organized by the Cuban Embassy, the event brought together Chinese
00:30officials, diplomats, social movement representatives and international guests.
00:38A figure who transcends borders, time, generations and ideologies.
00:43A man whose life was devoted to Cuba's independence, social justice, solidarity among peoples, Latin
00:50American and Caribbean integration, the global south, the socialist cause and the defense
00:55of a fairer and more equitable international order.
00:59From Fidel we learned to practice our solidarity through actions, not just beautiful words,
01:04and to remain steadfast in adversity and humble in victory.
01:10For China, Fidel Castro was not only a leader of the Cuban Revolution, also a figure of global
01:16influence, remembered for his defense of international justice and the progress of humanity.
01:23Fidel Castro was one of the founders and key architects of relations between China and Cuba.
01:30Thanks to his strategic vision and dedicated efforts, Cuba became the first country in Latin
01:35America to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
01:40Fidel visited China twice and warmly welcomed Chinese leaders, including Xi Jinping, on several
01:46occasions in Cuba, forging deep friendships and making historic contributions to the development
01:52of China-Cuba relations.
01:53The Chinese people will never forget him.
01:56The tribute also crossed into music, with Chinese artists performing a song celebrating Cuba.
02:17Across Latin America, Fidel supported struggles against foreign domination and military dictatorship
02:25backed by the United States.
02:27Today, representatives came to reaffirm that they will not forget his legacy.
02:34Cuba stood by Nicaragua in the 1980s, when U.S. aggression against our territory and our
02:39revolution was at its height.
02:41The Cuban people and Commander Fidel stood with us.
02:45Commemorating Fidel means honoring the struggles of revolutionary peoples, including those of Nicaragua,
02:51Cuba and peoples around the world.
02:53We are very pleased to join the Embassy of Cuba and the Cuban people in today's celebration.
02:59Fidel's internationalism continues to inspire social movements beyond Latin America, including
03:06Brazil's Landless Workers Movement and its fight for social justice and agrarian reform.
03:14Fidel's internationalism remains a living foundation for the internationalism practiced by Brazil's
03:20Landless Workers Movement, MST, seeing the struggles of others, the struggles of oppressed peoples,
03:25as our own.
03:26From here in China, our brigade has developed a range of projects, partnerships and cooperation
03:31with Cuba, firmly defending the Cuban revolution against U.S. attacks and supporting the sovereign
03:36development of the Cuban people.
03:38Our brigade continues to practice the internationalism we learned from Fidel.
03:41A century after his birth, Fidel Castro's legacy continues to resonate across borders through solidarity,
03:51cooperation, the defense of sovereignty and the vision of a more just world.
