00:39about the the cowboys off season free agency and the draft have they made themselves contenders what
00:45do you what do you think of that idea that's out there well i don't know if you guys have

00:50social media like i have been at ross tucker nfl but everywhere i look now cowboys super bowl
00:57cowboys super bowl contenders cowboys are legit contenders which by the way i think the one thing
01:03that's interesting about that is i don't really remember people saying that before the draft
01:08so it's almost like you know getting caleb downs and and the way the draft unfolded it's almost like
01:19that helped put people over the hump in terms of how they feel about this cowboys team you know
01:26certainly they made some upgrades at least they feel like they did um in the secondary i mean when
01:33you have caleb downs jalen thompson and colby durant they should be significantly better on the back end
01:41uh we'll see how the d-line shakes out i'm curious about the d-line you know i'm curious to
01:47see what
01:47rashaun gary still has i'm you know i i thought moving on from a diggy zua was interesting uh but
01:55that's really those are the areas that we'll be watching i mean i don't see any reason why the
02:01offense shouldn't be very dynamic again and let's be honest guys i mean it's kind of hard to imagine
02:09the defense being any worse you know the bar was pretty low yeah yeah it's easier to be better than
02:16that what what do you think of the impact caleb downs is going to make in the nfl
02:22well so i i was really surprised he didn't go until 11 um you know i i thought i had
02:29several
02:29people tell me they thought he was the best football player in the draft now you know there's always a
02:35discussion about positional value and how much the safeties make versus like an edge rusher and
02:40we can have that conversation and there's also you know the idea of how much upside does he have
02:49physical ability right he's not the arbel reese or the sunny styles or some of these other guys
02:55but man he looks to me like i would not be surprised if he makes the pro bowl this year
03:02he has uncommon instincts and football intelligence and the longer i'm around it
03:11and the more coaches i talk to and just the more ball i watch linebacker and safety so much of
03:18those
03:19two positions are just your brain and how you think the game and this kid for three years was way
03:28ahead
03:29of the game i mean i i did his game for cbs alabama old miss when he was a true
03:35freshman against jackson dart
03:36and those receivers and he was already one of the best defensive players they had the point is is
03:43the kid is a prodigy and if you look and you read any of those books the guys that are
03:49always prodigies
03:50they they tend to be prodigies so i think he's going to come into the nfl and make some major
03:56noise
03:57right away and help make that entire back end be better and obviously it helps with the other guys
04:03they got back there but i think he's going to be pretty you know i would not be surprised if
04:08he's a
04:08pro bowl player as a rookie ross it's not an offseason in cowboy land without some contract discussions in
04:15this offseason it's george pickens have you been surprised at all by maybe the lack of interest
04:21from other teams to want to acquire george pickens and how this is unfolding with dallas him playing
04:25on the franchise stack uh no i'm not surprised um and i'll tell you why because
04:37george pickens reputation precedes him so if you go back to college and why he wasn't a first round pick
04:45then you go to pittsburgh and i mean all you have to do is watch the tape forget even the
04:51off the
04:51field you know stuff but just watch the tape and the sort of erratic on-field behavior and then people
05:00know mike tomlin's history and what he got out of guys like antonio holmes and plexico burris
05:12and antonio brown before you know they moved on and and maybe had more diva-ish behavior at their
05:20next stops for mike tomlin to move on from pickens that speaks volumes and so i think there's a bunch
05:30of teams that would have been interested in him but i think they would have wanted to date him for
05:35a
05:35year and not marry him for a long-term deal with big money so why are they going to offer
05:43a bigger
05:44contract than the cowboys would and trade draft picks trade assets to give him that type of contract
05:54because to be honest with you if he's had the erratic behavior when he's been making relative peanuts
06:05compared to nfl star receivers what's the behavior going to be like if you give him 40 million dollars
06:13a year and he basically has carte blanche to do whatever he wants so um i'm not surprised by that
06:21i was surprised that the cowboys came out and verbalized that they weren't going to negotiate
06:28with him and that they wanted a one-year deal because i thought that could kind of blow up in
06:33their face he could just uh stay away until the friday before the first game and i thought it might
06:41have made more sense to at least play the game at least act like you're trying to get him signed
06:46to a
06:47long-term deal go up to the deadline say oh we tried we got close uh maybe after the season
06:54i think it's
06:55an interesting tactic they took and i thought there was a chance that it was precipitating a trade but
07:02it certainly doesn't seem like that's the case ross tucker with us here in the gbag nation so looking
07:06at this this nfc's division right now i know you follow the eagles very closely like who who are you
07:11buying in this division right now do you think the cowboys have a legitimate chance to win the division
07:17no question they have a legitimate chance to win the division um i do feel like all i do feel
07:25like
07:26the cowboys giants and commanders will all have better records this year than they did last year
07:34uh the question is how much better you know i mean i i can see a scenario where they all
07:41win a couple
07:41games more you know the giants have an upgrade at coaching and and roster and now they're quarterbacks
07:49in his second year the commanders are going to get their quarterback back who never looked right last
07:55year and the cowboys should be more improved on defense for a lot of different reasons i don't really
08:03expect the eagles to take a step back however they're implementing a totally new offense
08:12and it feels like you know that could either go real well or it could conceivably go really poorly
08:19their talent is such that it's hard to imagine them dropping off too much but uh i do think it's
08:27going to be an absolute battle between the cowboys and the eagles till the end unless unless this new
08:34offense in philly just really clicks ross we need a home run here for uh for mother's day we want
