01:09Amir stressed that the losses were not simply due to market conditions,
01:13with some deals proceeding despite inadequate due diligence, weak safeguards and warnings from Tabung Haji's own offices.
01:21The largest loss involved Al Rauda Real Estates Development and Project Management,
01:27where Tabung Haji paid about RM1.5 bilion to lease four hotels in Mecca and Medina,
01:33but later suffered a RM1 bilion impairment after rental payments stopped.
01:39Amir also highlighted Tabung Haji's RM193.5 bilion purchase,
01:43of a 30% stake in Putrajaya Perdana despite its own research arm valuing the stake at between RM124 million
01:50and RM155 million.
01:53A forensic audit of an offshore patrol vessel project linked to TH Heavy Engineering also found RM48.1 million in
02:01irregularities,
02:03with another RM195 million in possible irregularities still under investigation.
02:08Amir added that Tabung Haji advanced RM178.6 million to the buyer of an Indonesian plantation
02:17after the purchaser failed to meet its obligations,
02:20effectively meaning the seller financed its own buyer.
02:24He warned that the pattern went beyond ordinary investment losses,
02:28adding that investigations would continue and those found responsible would face action.
