00:00A Jewish country was almost established in Manchuria.
00:02Let's take a look at this today.
00:04In 1933, persecution against Jews in Germany was severe,
00:07but in the 1930s Japan was in control of Manchuria.
00:10But Manchuria needed more people and capital,
00:13so Japan came up with a bold plan,
00:16relocating many European Jews to Manchuria.
00:19The goal was to develop Manchuria,
00:21a plan known as Japan's Fugu Plan.
00:23They even held a Jewish conference
00:24to create a Jewish autonomous district.
00:27But this didn't last very long.
00:28That's because in 1936 Japan and Germany formed an alliance
00:32by signing the Anti-Commontern Pact.
00:34As a result, the Fugu Plan was abandoned.
00:36If the Fugu Plan had been implemented,
00:38we might have actually seen Jewish people living in Manchuria.
