00:28reached the assembly premises as well. But why are they protesting? Where is the deadlock
00:36in the conversation between the government and the students? What exactly is the reason
00:42or the one demand that the government in Jharkhand is not agreeing upon? I'll tell you all of that
00:48on the programme. Also coming up, the story, the crazy scary story of Air India Mid-Air
00:55is scared. Now what really happened? The development there is at the pilot's dope test. There were
01:04two dope tests. One has come back positive. What does that mean? What kind of tests are
01:10airlines doing? Does the airline need to take accountability in this case as well? All of
01:16this is what we look at. And then there is a shame and absolute shame coming in from the
01:24national capital region. This is the camellias. The most expensive address of the country is now

01:49First up, as always, let me take you through the top headlines at this hour. Student protests turned violent
01:54in Rachi after talks with the Sorain government failed, with protesters breaching the Jharkhand assembly
01:59barricades as well. Police used lati charge water cannons to disperse the protesting students while the
02:06assembly was adjourned amidst the standoff. Meanwhile, the CID has arrested former JPSC chief amidst student
02:13protests. But that's not enough to keep them away. It's been hours and hours, days and days the protests carry
02:21on.
02:23Meanwhile, politics over the Jharkhand police action has intensified, with the BJP condemning the lati
02:29charge on protesting students at Rachi and questioning Rahul Gandhi's stand. The GMM, meanwhile, has accused
02:35the BJP of politicising the student stir, alleging that outsiders were being brought in to create cures.
02:46All eyes are now on the Home Minister, Amit Shah, who's expected to respond to the students'
02:51protests in Sansaad. At least that's what the expectation is. Parliamentary Affairs Minister
02:56Kiran Rajiju has urged the opposition not to disrupt. Amit Shah was expected to speak today,
03:02but then the House got adjourned one more time.
03:07A delegation of eight Lok Sabha MPs from the NCPSP met Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the last
03:15week of the parliament monsoon session began. The meeting lasted around 30 minutes,
03:19with the party describing it as a courtesy call. The meeting sort of assumes significance as the
03:25centre seeks support from key opposition parties on the passage of the delimitation bill,
03:31also the FCRA bills in parliament.
03:36Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution, making the rendition of the Tamil Nadu
03:42and the mandatory anthem over there, mandatory in all government functions.
03:49Chief Minister Vijay has said that Tamil Nadu would not compromise on its linguistic and cultural rights.
03:55DMK, AADMK have backed the resolution. The resolution comes amid centre's advisory on playing Vande Marat.

27:05We are hearing from government sources that the spotlight this time around will be on, no surprises there,
27:11Yuva Shakti Gen Z and Vande Mataram will be played before the national anthem.
27:17As Defence Ministry, we are hearing that as a part of the 80th Independence Day celebration,
27:23for the first time ever, the national song, Vande Mataram would be sung from the ramparts of Red Fort.
27:30Let me cut across to my colleague, Shivani, joining us for more details on this.
27:33Shivani, what more do we know?
27:35So now, this time, the Independence Day will be special because for a number of reasons.
27:41One, the theme is 150 years of the national song, Vande Mataram,
27:46that will be sung for the first time as a ceremony of Independence Day from the Red Fort.
27:50And it will precede the national anthem.
27:53Second, a lot of focus on Gen Z.
27:55We've seen how Gen Z has been valued and the kind of videos that have been coming in from the
28:01Prime Minister
28:02also encouraging the participation of Gen Z.
28:05So a lot of focus on Yuva Shakti.
28:07Just special invitees comprise a large part of these students,
28:11young achievers from the Gen Z, the Yuva Shakti.
28:15And we also see Seva Teerth highlighted on the invite of the Independence Day celebrations this year.
28:22So a lot of new highlights this time,
28:25but a lot of focus on Yuva Shakti that happens to be the Gen Z
28:29that is being talked about and being encouraged a lot.

28:38on what will be the key highlight to look forward to this 80th Independence Day.

28:49The Air India Phuket to Delhi turbulent story has taken a serious turn.
28:55On the 4th of August, you'll remember,
28:57flight AI-2379 and Airbus A320 registered
29:01was carrying 137 passengers, including three infants and eight crew,
29:09when it suddenly lost around 300 feet of altitude during cruise.
29:16The aircraft stabilised and landed safely in Delhi,
29:20but a few of the passengers and cabin crew members were seriously injured.
29:23But what's happened since then has turned this from a weather story to a much bigger one.
29:30As part of standard protocol, after such an occurrence,
29:33both the flight crew members underwent,
29:35that is the pilots in this case, the pilot and the court pilot,
29:38underwent a prescribed psychoactive substance screening test.
29:44Now, the DGCA, that's the controller body there,
29:48says the pilot in command result that came out
29:51of that psychoactive substance screening test,
29:55that result indicated a finding that requires confirmatory tests.
30:00Samples have been sent to a designated laboratory
30:03and the final report is still awaited.
30:06Now, the occurrence has been classified as a serious incident.
30:10The Aircraft Incident Investigation Bureau
30:13is now investigating the matter.
30:15Pending that investigation and the confirmatory test result,
30:18the DGCA has taken both pilots off roster.
30:21Further action will depend on what the investigation
30:24and the lab reports actually show.
30:26But passengers on board have raised serious allegations
30:30of their own on the conduct of the pilots.
30:35One passenger who had joined us here on Five Live
30:38just about last week told us about the gravity
30:42of the turbulence being so high
30:45that even an elderly citizen who was seated
30:48with the seatbelt on broke a rib.
30:53We've heard stories of passengers who came out of it
30:56talking about how the infants jumped out of the lap
31:00of their parent, went three rows back.
31:02Imagine the damage.
31:04Horror stories have been reported from that flight
31:06and yet we do not know what cost it.
31:11There are also allegations coming in
31:14that there was a grandmother on board
31:16and she was holding the grandson, buckled up,
31:21and despite that, the three-year-old child flung in the air.
31:27The dent was seen on the roof of the flight.
31:31That's the impact of 300 feet.
31:34There is also allegation now that the aircraft did not divert
31:37despite elderly passengers being hurt
31:39and there was no wheelchair, no ambulance,
31:42no water waiting for them when the flight actually landed
31:44until the families actually asked for help themselves.
31:48All of this has now brought one question back into focus.
31:54What exactly was the state of the pilots in this case?
32:00What does a psychoactive substance screening actually check for
32:03and how is it different from, say, a breath analyzer
32:06every pilot already goes through before they onboard a flight?
32:10Now, you should know this.
32:12Every commercial pilot in India goes through a breath analyzer before flying
32:15that checks for alcohol alone and clears in minutes.
32:20A psychoactive substance screening, on the other hand,
32:23is a different test entirely.
32:25It's a urine test done immediately after a flight or shift
32:28split into two samples.
32:31The first sample is screened on the spot
32:33and if that comes back positive, which it has in this case,
32:36the pilot is removed from duty immediately
32:38even before anything is confirmed.
32:41In this case, again, both the pilots have been taken off roster.
32:44The second sample then goes to the DGCA authorized lab
32:48where it is tested again
32:50and it is tested against a panel of 13 substances.
32:54These substances include cannabis, cocaine, opiates as well.
32:59That confirmatory result is what everyone is now waiting for in this case.
33:05That confirmatory report is still awaited.
33:08The AAIB continues an investigation
33:10and both pilots remain off roster till we know.
33:14But this is a story that has shaken the confidence
33:17of a lot of flyers.
33:19And this coming from an airline like Air India
33:22is raising some serious questions.
33:25To talk to us a little bit about this,
33:27I've got two guests for us.
33:29We're joined by squadron leader, Debulina Das.
33:33She's a retired pilot and aviation specialist.
33:35And we also will be joined in a little while
33:37by one of the passengers on board that dreadful flight.
33:41Let me come to you, Ms. Das, first.

34:52what is the outcome of the test
34:54and how is it affecting us.
34:55We are given,
34:56we are told that it is a negative or a positive.

35:03the result is negative or positive.
35:05So, your question says that
35:06what exactly does negative mean
35:09or not positive mean
35:10is not something that I can throw a light on.
35:13What I can just tell you is that
35:15when we do a test,
35:17we do a urine test,
35:19we are,
35:20there is a criteria on which
35:22the sample is tested
35:24and if the lab thinks
35:26that it is a hundred percent negative
35:28and there is no kind of dispute
35:34about the time of the testing,
35:37the condition of the testing,
35:39the condition of the person
35:40who has been tested,
35:41everything is correct
35:43and the answer
35:45or the test result is negative,
35:47we are given a thumbs up
35:48that is negative.
35:49But they might have a lot of reasons
35:52for having an iota of doubt
35:54that why the test
35:55cannot be considered as negative.
35:58Now, these reasons are not told to us
36:00but when these reasons come...
36:02So, you are basically saying
36:03that this is a closed door
36:04kind of a test.
36:06Nobody knows what they were tested for.
36:08It is only that there is,
36:09you know, urine samples were picked up
36:11and that, you know,
36:12our research says
36:13that that includes tests
36:14for opiates,
36:16for cocaine,
36:16for any kind of other substances as well.
36:18Now, having understood that,
36:20you are saying

36:23So, I would like to add

36:30that medication of some kinds
36:33which we take
36:34can also cause the test to be positive.

36:39some medicines can...
36:42the psychomotive substance
36:44of the medicine
36:45can stay up to 90 days
36:48depending on your fat content,
36:50metabolism and hydration of the body.
36:53But if the pilot...

38:29or by your eye
38:29you felt you will be able
38:31to clear it
38:31but because of the rapid
38:35change of weather
38:36you were not able
38:38to avoid it.
38:39Okay.
38:39So sometimes
38:40and it is very rare
38:42but I cannot,
38:43I will not say
38:44that it cannot happen.
38:45Sometimes an unexpected
38:47entrance into that
38:48turbulence zone
38:49might happen
38:50and no cockpit crew
38:53will be wanting
38:55to experience
38:57a severe turbulence
38:58and not warn

41:08even more disturbing
41:09is that the video

41:15exclusive residential societies
41:18and the person
41:19who appears
41:20to have captured
41:20the assault
41:21is of course

41:23a neighbor in this case.
41:24Another resident
41:26of the same society
41:27who witnessed
41:28what happened,
41:29recorded it,
41:31covertly of course
41:32and then the footage
41:33was shared
41:33on social media,
41:35rapidly spreading
41:36across platforms
41:37and triggering
41:37public outrage as well.
41:39The video
41:40ever since
41:41has gone viral.
41:42Users began tagging
41:44Gurugram police
41:45and demanding accountability,
41:46questioning
41:47why such an assault
41:48could allegedly
41:49take place
41:49inside a luxury
41:50residential complex
41:51and just because
41:52the help is poor,
41:53needy,
41:54desperate,
41:55no complaint
41:55has been filed
41:56just yet.
41:57The social media backlash
41:59pushed the police
42:00to take action.
42:01They have now taken
42:02into a motor cognizance
42:03of the footage
42:04and registered in FIR
42:06at the Sushantlok police station.
42:08The case
42:09has been registered
42:10under wrongful confinement,
42:13voluntary hurting
42:14and a couple of those
42:16tough norms.
42:18But the viral video
42:19has brought back again
42:21some tough realities
42:23that our society
42:24that we as individuals,
42:25as human beings
42:26really face
42:27and are confronted
42:28with every day.
42:29The police investigation
42:31of course will find out
42:32what really happened
42:33until then.
42:34This disturbing video
42:35reminds you
42:36that there has to be
42:38dignity in labor.
42:40This cannot be on

44:15when you're eating out?
44:16The ambience may be premium,
44:18the prices may be steep,
44:20but the food on your plate,
44:21is that actually safe?
44:23Well, from Mumbai's
44:24nightlife crackdown
44:25to Bengaluru's
44:26posh eateries,
44:27the food safety net
44:28is tightening around
44:29high-end establishments.
44:31And this time,
44:32they found rotten meat,
44:35expired dairy,
44:37even used cooking oil.
44:39And these are not
44:40just hygiene lapses.
44:41They raise a far bigger
44:42question when you eat out
44:44and you go to very fancy places.
44:48You do not know
44:49what is being served.
44:51After raids on hotels
44:52and clubs,
44:53Bengaluru's
44:53food safety department
44:54has now uncovered
44:56a disturbing trail
44:56of rotten food,
44:58expired dairy products,
44:59and reused cooking oil.
45:01At the centre of the latest
45:02crackdown is the
45:03Sky Lounge at UB City,
45:06where the kitchen was sealed
45:07following the inspection.
45:09The crackdown was not
45:10limited to one establishment.
45:12Raids have been seen
45:13across Bengaluru.
45:14There have been raids
45:15in clubs,
45:16in hotels,
45:17other premium eateries
45:18as well,
45:19with officials now
45:20checking storage,
45:21kitchen hygiene,
45:22and the condition of food
45:23being served to customers.
45:24But in this particular case,
45:26what did the investigators
45:29really find?
45:30They found,
45:31in fact,
45:32they seized 132 kgs
45:36of food articles
45:37that was discarded
45:38during the investigation.
45:40Stuff that should not
45:41be going inside your system
45:43was found in that kitchen.
45:45They found rotten chicken
45:47and beef.
45:48They found fungus-infected meat,
45:50other food items
45:52that deemed unfit
45:53for consumption.
45:54They also found 15 litres
45:56of used cooking oil
45:58that was being reused.
46:0015 litres.
46:02And officials also found
46:04expired milk and curd
46:05reportedly passed
46:06their expiry date
46:07by several days.
46:08The findings now
46:10raise a larger question.
46:11Does a premium address
46:12guarantee premium food safety?
46:15Clearly not in this case.

46:18to even five-star kitchens,
46:20the latest inspections
46:21show that price,
46:22ambience and reputation
46:24are no substitute
46:25for basic food hygiene.

46:34a series of raids
46:36across hotels in Bengaluru
46:38have found out
46:39multiple malpractice.

46:45and it is on the 16th floor
46:47one of the popular
46:49restaurant and pub
46:51in the city.
46:52And large number
46:53of elite crowd
46:55visit this particular
46:56restaurant and pub.
46:59And health department
46:59which has conducted
47:00a surprise raid
47:02in this particular restaurant
47:04have found out
47:05close to 45 kgs
47:08of rotten beef
47:10and chicken.
47:12It is not only rotten,
47:13it was filled with fungus
47:14and it was being stored
47:16in a cold storage.
47:17Health department
47:18to their surprise
47:19realized that
47:20they were serving
47:21these kind of food
47:22to the customers
47:23who ever have visited.
47:24and immediately
47:26the health department
47:27has seized
47:28the entire restaurant
47:30for unhygienic
47:31maintain of
47:33this particular place.
47:34Apart from this
47:35they have also raided
47:36few other restaurants
47:37across the city.
