03:09been massive alleged irregularities in the paper and examination system.
03:15Especially where it comes down to the JPSS and the JSSC.
03:22So the latest that is, about three hours ago you had the government officials from Hemant Soren's government come in,
03:33speak to the protesting students right here.
03:35They have asked them to come up with a five member delegation so talks can begin.
03:40The students though have struck to their demands, sources tell us that the government is willing to bend through nearly
03:48all their demands but one, which is a CBI inquiry.
03:52The students are adamant that no, not CID, but a CBI inquiry takes place in all these irregularities of examinations
04:00that have taken place.
04:02Where the JPCC is concerned and the JPCC is concerned in midst of all of this, the news that we
04:11are just breaking, you had the chief minister, Hemant Soren of Dharkhand, who has met the governor a short while
04:17back, assuring him that the government is opening channels with the students who are protesting and is trying to do
04:24what the government can to meet the demands of the students.
04:28Word coming in that the Dhan country's minister, Hemant Soren has met Governor Santosh Gangwar at Lok Bhawan and briefed
04:36him on the alleged irregularities.
04:38The governor on his account has stressed on the necessity of exam process to be made transparent and fair to
04:46uphold trust of the youth and call these allegations, alleged irregularities, a very serious matter.
04:52The Hemant Soren government says that they will try and meet the students' demand, but our sources tell us that
05:00the government is not keen to hand over the paper leak issue, the irregularities issue to the CBI.
05:09Will the government budge on that? Because that seems to be the main sticking point.
05:13I want to connect to my colleague Satyajit, who has been tracking all the developments in the JPSC irregularities as
05:22well as the JSSC irregularities in Dharkhand that these students have been protesting.
05:31Satyajit, what is the latest? The chief minister has met the governor, but what is really going on inside the
05:37government circles?
05:38It seems that now top leaders of Hemant Soren's cabinet also expected to come in and meet the protesting students.
05:52Of course, the government seems very serious to resolve this issue, to address this issue, and that is why the
05:59other day he had made a statement that he is doing all the things that is needed to address the
06:05issue,
06:05and raids were conducted. The moment this issue was erected by the students, that there was a large-scale rigging
06:13in the prelims exams of 14 JPSC, raids were conducted.
06:18The JPSC asked while chairman was made to tender his resignation. He is being quizzed by CID regularly. He was
06:25called by the CID for four times consecutively on different, different days.
06:30And after that, many raids were conducted. 14 arrests were made. Now, the government seems really serious to break this
06:39deadlock. They had made an attempt to break the ice.
06:44Today, Gachi's SDO and ADM Law & Order had come here to meet the students, and they have asked them
06:52to form a delegation of five members, and then perhaps the government has the plan to listen to the students,
07:00to the protesters,
07:01that what is their demand, and what are the demands that could be considered. But they have made it clear
07:08that they want a CBI probe into the bugling in all the exams conducted by JPSC and JSSE in the
07:16recent past 3.
07:17So that's why, that could become a contention, but many demands could be met also. That is what we are
07:28gathering, like the demand that they want the cancellation of 14 JPSC prelims.
07:35This could be done, and they want a total reforms in JPSC and JSSE. They can, the government can discuss
07:44these points. So this protest is going on since the last 12 days, and students are adamant till their demands
07:53are met, till their demands are conceded.
07:55They are not going to pass, they are not going to refuse. And the joes out here in the tents
08:01are really high. There are two centres where the protests are going on. One is being led by Devinder Mato,
08:08JLKM leader, and he had contested elections also, assembly polls, on a JLKM ticket from Silli.
08:14And other tent, other centre is the concentration of students. So they have been on, a few students have been
08:24on hunger strike from that faction also, and Devinder Mato, for him, this is the fourth day he is on
08:30indefinite fast.
08:31Today, Sonam Wangchuk spoke to him over video call, and he asked him to have some water and a bit
08:40of salt with lemon, sahat, etc., so that he can sustain for a long time.
08:45The purpose is not a suicide, but to wake up the government from its deep sleep. So he has conceded
08:53the point during the video call itself, he consumed some water, and he has ended up his water fast.

40:08sits Devendra Nath Mato says that he doesn't believe in these delegations. He wants direct
40:14channel with Hemant Surain, the chief minister of Jharkhand, and wants to speak with him.
40:19What you can actually look at in this, the government of Jharkhand looking possibly to
40:25divide the two student movements because there are two stages here, trying to appease to one set
40:31while not looking at the other on which sits Devendra Nath Mato because the government here
40:40believes that this stage is politically motivated but this stage is also seeing a fair amount of
40:47crowds that are coming in support. Maybe not as much as the other but it still does and you have
40:54Devendra Nath Mato who's now become the poster child of this movement. If there was a Sonam Wangchuk

41:11All right, there is a fair amount of politics at the back of this as well. The government of
41:17Aidan Surain supported by Congress, the BJP going up to our Gandhi in the Congress on why is it that
41:23they haven't shown the kind of open support they've shown for Jharkhand. Like I said, a fair amount of
41:29politics.
41:49Day 12 of the Jharkhand students protest. For the first time since the agitation began, there is a fresh attempt
41:56to break the deadlock. The state government of the Jharkhand
41:59government held talks with the protesting students at Jaipal Singh Stadium. But even as dialogue
42:06is on the table, the politics around the protest is only heating up. The Congress is at the centre
42:13of that table. This is the same party that staged a dharna outside the Prime Minister's residence. Its leaders got
42:22detained and repeatedly raised the issue of police crackdown on Delhi March in Parliament.
42:29But in Jharkhand, where students have been protesting for nearly two weeks, the Congress leadership has stayed largely silent. On
42:39the ground, the Seva Dal has been serving
42:41food to protesters while the NSUI has extended support. But the absence of the party's top leadership has fueled the
42:50BJP's attack. The BJP called it selective outrage. It's
42:56charged. Congress is silent because it shares power with the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
43:23But the BJP, too, is facing questions. The party opposed the Jhantar Mantra agitation. Yet today, it has joined the
43:32Jharkhand protest. The BJP and the ABVP have set up a separate protest camp away from Devinder Nanmohato's tent to
43:41target the Hemant-Soreen government.
43:46What you see right behind me is the stage that has been set up by independent job aspirants that wanted
43:52a different stage to put forth their demand, their grievances against the Hemant-Soreen government. So what started as one

45:32With the assembly's monsoon session beginning tomorrow, the BJP sources tell India today the student issue will dominate proceedings with
45:41an aggressive offensive planned inside the house.
45:43The party, however, will stay away from the August 10th Assembly Gherao.
45:50The students' demands haven't changed. The politics around them has.
45:55Should support for students' protests remain the same, regardless of who is in the power?
46:01Or, do political alliances decide which protests deserve solidarity and which are met with silence?
