00:01Newly appointed Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman J. Aru Kumar says the party will return to its
00:07community roots as it adjusts to life in the opposition. The 41-year-old Nilai Assemblyman
00:13took over from Lok Siu Fuk, who stepped down after leading the state chapter for 22 years.
00:20Lok had announced his resignation after DAP lost two seats in the August 1st state election,
00:26including Chenna, which he had represented for three terms.
00:30Aru said DAP's immediate priority was to rebuild public confidence,
00:35especially in Repa and Chenna, the two seats it lost in the polls.
00:40His first task will be to meet DAP's 140 branches and assemblymen to discuss how the party can
00:47strengthen its presence on the ground and continue pushing policies that benefit the public.
00:54Aru, who has represented Nilai since 2013, also wants to preserve the unity built under Lok's
01:01leadership, describing it as one of the party's strengths. As the opposition DAP will provide
01:08checks and balances, but Aru stressed that policies and projects which had benefited Negeri Sembilan
01:14should continue. Aru and Lok are expected to meet Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim this week to discuss
01:23possible cooperation where both sides share common ground. Aru, who served with Ismail in the previous
01:30state administration, said their personal relationship remained unchanged. However, he stressed that DAP
01:37would still play its role as the opposition with the people's interests coming first.
