A lot of football questions (and a lot of other random stuff, too) in this week's Ask BMitch Anything, but one stood out: one caller asked Brian what makes the difference between a kick returner and a punt returner, and why was it so special he was good at both?

00:00and it's time friday one o'clock ask bmitch anything dressed by collars and co where style
00:06meets all day comfort collars go is dope i'm about to put in a big order for football season
00:11looking fresh on those sidelines b you ready to rock yep i'm ready let's start with andre
00:18in temple hills what's up drey what up drey hey bmitch good to talk to you guys happy friday
00:24you too bud so so for the first time i'm gonna make my girlfriend dinner tonight and i'm trying
00:31to make a cajun louisiana style chicken and some pasta but i'm not trying to use a slap your mama
00:38of cajun seasoning i want everything to be from scratch so my question is how can i make this
00:43pasta a true cajun pasta without using the you know already pre-made seasoning you want to do it
00:49without using any seasoning no no i don't want to use the already pre-made uh slap your mama
00:55seasoning i want to be straight from scratch all right well you're talking about bell peppers
01:00onions you do it bell peppers onion garlic uh some paprika um you're gonna need some cayenne
01:08or something some uh cayenne pepper some sea salt uh and that that should get it done for
01:14you right there but you gotta like what cook all that and slice it up slice it up quite a
01:18lot
01:18saute it and then start adding all your other stuff to it can i andre the cayenne pepper
01:23with the salt the paprika uh a little garlic powder a little onion powder that'll get it
01:29all there for you drey you still on the line but you need to so you want to make it
01:37look
01:37good get some red bell peppers yellow bell peppers and green cut them all up we'll have the color
01:42in that thing get you some garlic slice that up real thin then and you're gonna saute all that
01:47together with some onion and then you add those little spices that i said uh it'll work out for
01:52you my question is how long have they been dating that this is the first time he's making this girl
01:57dinner when the first time you cook for lauren when you were dating her fair question
02:07um she did she does the bulk of the cooking i mean when you were dating her when was the
02:11first time
02:12you cooked or did you just take it out somewhere i hope it wasn't those beans that's a family recipe
02:18we know it wasn't a bean because she married him let's go to paul in dc paul ask bmich anything
02:26hey what's up bmich how you doing brother i'm good man how you feeling hey listen i'm looking at the
02:32hall of fame game last night and only three kickers made and i'm asking myself how come
02:36mcmahon's united as being the only place kicker to ever win nfl mvp that's ridiculous bro what's up
02:45with that fair question honestly yeah i mean i think when it comes down to it it's not about just
02:50that
02:50one year though you look at the venetary the things he did consistently over the time huge
02:55kicks that may be it right there where it's a longevity of it you know but mark winning that
03:00mvp that stands by itself nobody else ever did i'm sure there's some mention of that has to be
03:06yeah i'm sure there's memorabilia or something yeah good question though man yeah i mean i'm looking
03:11at mosley's bona fides now super bowl champion two pro bowlers first team all pro it is wild he won
03:18mvp what a what a year i didn't realize how long he played he played 16 seasons um let's keep
03:25the
03:25phone lines hitting here greg is in upper marlboro what's up greg what up greg hey happy Friday to
03:33y'all uh my question is kind of similar uh i was in a debate last night with some cowboy
03:40fans and
03:41the name that i keep bringing up is gary clock while greg clock wasn't given much consideration
03:50for the hall of fame and at the time his numbers were very similar to michael irvin's and the second
03:57part is outside of yourself and joe jacobie whatever rare skin uh players slash commanders
04:05uh players do you feel should have consideration for the hall of fame hell london fletcher
04:12automatically i mean you look at he said jacobie too yeah he said jacobie already but you look at
04:17london where and i think gary gary you look at gary numbers you look at uh urban's number they're damn
04:22very very similar you know and i think what it is there were people fighting for those guys
04:28in dallas more than people in here fighting for other guys i believe things are changing where these
04:34people are really going after and trying to push it and we may see some things change up here but
04:40it comes down to if your own team ain't fighting for you you think other people gonna fight for you
04:45well the other part with urban was you had kind of the hype marketing machine of the cowboys of jerry
04:51jones they had that super bowl run where they won three and four years and the stars were troy emmett
04:58michael yeah whereas in washington gary clark was a phenomenal player and their numbers really are
05:03comparable but like you already had art and then you had gary and it was the run game and it
05:10was
05:10the hogs you know what i mean like it was it ain't your fault that's yet another good point i
05:14agree with
05:15you he should be in yeah i'm with you yeah uh let's go to julian in fredericksburg what's up julian
05:20what's up julian

06:14these
06:14days but uh hey yeah so i i gotta you know next week is to tailgate to play miami my
06:23original plan
06:23was uh cubans and stone crab but turns out stone crabs out of season so you know given miami and
06:31south florida all the way down to key west what kind of you know dishes should i think about
06:36what kind of dish in what do you like because he likes to do tailgates themed around the opponent
06:41oh we're florida aren't you bringing us a tailgate next thursday you can do any type of fish the
06:47thursday the thursday before baltimore thursday before baltimore you can do any type of fish for
06:52miami deal or any type of uh like cuban food you know what i like down there is grouper i
06:58feel like
06:58you got a grouper down in florida be outstanding blackhead grouper is really good yeah
07:04all right well i was i was thinking grouper i was thinking mahi so i was on fire i was

07:15you over there grouper and mahi you won't miss me all right we'll be there all right take care man
07:22now i can't confirm the validity of this but line three is a fellow by the name of alex
07:29and per his location stallion wrote popeyes and ashburn so we're going to find out yes hello alex
07:36are you at popeyes yes what's up guys yeah i'm right up the street from there one now and one
07:41i'm at the
07:41i'm at the popeyes and ashburn but i have a question hold on alex we have questions for you sir
07:46wait one second there are multiple popeyes in ashburn you're at the one by top golf yes sir
07:53okay i'm glad we clarified that now please fire away your way can we all right i was gonna say
07:59hey i can bring you the whole crew uh popeyes and ashburn whatever you want here in the next
08:0520 minutes two o'clock whatever on the condition that uh b-man serves as my bodyguard for the next
08:11nascar race because i i sort of crashed into the joe gibbs rookie last weekend oh oh this is our
08:18race car driver you crashed in the joe's rookie yeah i sent the video to uh just too funny the
08:25producer and i think i tagged you guys on facebook and twitter uh they can't figure out whether i either
08:31i was running a yellow 86 alien car and on the video speak up they can't figure out whether i
08:37slid up
08:38half a lane or if the kid hot rodded it and cut me off but i got a bunch of
08:42right front damage and
08:43they were waiting on him to get a left rear you know like a flat tire and and blow out
08:48and crash
08:48he ended up saving it and then going on to win the race the problem is uh this is strike
08:54two strike
08:55one was last year and there ain't gonna be no strike three there's the joe gibbs crew's pissed off
09:01the deal with you and the popeyes if you can show up at the next race i'll give you guys
09:06all right
09:07as a popeye what is the race well it was going to be iowa tonight here at seven on fox
09:15port one the
09:15problem is i got to sit down i can't get the iowa but you can bring the chicken yeah oh
09:20yeah yeah yeah
09:21i can bring you the chicken down with iowa thank you alex stop wrecking people man
09:26um i got a text like when you jeff you said that the other guy hit him yeah he came
09:32down into the
09:33lane the other person don't mean that you were at fault though mean they might have drifted into
09:37you lane or they can get a little airborne and slide over into you one of my i don't want
09:42to say
09:43regrets certainly not a regret but at some point in time commander tequila got my phone number i i kind
09:49of blame jeff but whatever sometimes commander tequila has good questions sometimes they're
09:54completely incomprehensible but this is this one he texted me my quick question to be mitch is you
10:01know how the rookies carry shoulder pads who do you remember carrying shoulder pads for nobody
10:06practice really nobody they never asked me did you get any rookie hazing yeah i had to bring in
10:12breakfast and i carried a couple helmets but i never carried nobody's shoulder pads whose helmets did
10:16you get ernest and gerald you know and i got bought how big was gerald riggs helmet
10:30oh let's take another caller here uh big like i didn't really deal with like people outside of
10:35my position grouping i don't care what you say probably because you got in a fight on the first
10:39day yeah kind of if they were a little small i'm like yeah right you're gonna make me do what
10:44nah anyway that's like what they say you do when you go to prison you start a fight with somebody
10:48on the first day show you're tough mad is doom yeah big b is in dc big b fire away
10:54for b mitch
10:56hey what's going on b b i know you are very intense dude when it comes to working out and
11:01playing but
11:02i wanted to know your opinion on athletes that aren't necessarily that good in practice but they
11:09show up when the lights come on but those guys people say that guys that are not that good in
11:15practice those guys don't make mistakes and they do everything right and i think the coaches have
11:20seen them in action so that's why they can get away with it if you are starting off for the
11:25first time
11:26and you're you're not very good in practice you probably won't be playing in a lot of the games
11:31you won't make it but if you are the guy who the coaches understand in practice he's gonna be a
11:35little
11:35whatever but when those lights come on he's gonna be good you can make a career out of it
11:39but most times when you're a young dude you better be good at practice too phone lines are open 800
11:45-636-1067
11:47800-636-1067 i have a question for b mitch but i'm gonna let everybody on the phones take their
11:54turn
11:54first yes so monica texted me after the guy was saying he didn't want to use on slap your mama
11:58she said hell will you slap your mama yeah that's a lot of work dog like what it is there
12:03are people who
12:04want to go completely from scratch in the sense where they want to they don't want to just have
12:08somebody pre-do it my dad used to do this all the time he'll go get like the garlic powder
12:13but he would
12:13he had he made stuff all the time he'll have dried up garlic and all that he go completely from
12:19scratch
12:19but i understand the dude is doing he wants to be able to say see what did you use whatever
12:25his name
12:25is use your name homie i remember this especially because he was talking about when he's dating someone
12:31when lauren and i were first dating she was down in my apartment in north carolina and i remember i
12:36was like craving lasagna and and i was like let's make lasagna she's like yeah cool fun and we went
12:42to
12:42the grocery store you looked at her no we went to the grocery store and i got a i got
12:47a little
12:47you call it a little the basket i got a basket she's like what are you doing i was like
12:52make lasagna
12:53she's like okay and i walked directly to the frozen food aisle and got a lasagna out and she's like
12:59put
13:00all of that away and then we had to go back and get a cart she made lasagna that's not
13:04making
13:05lasagna that's heating it up dawg come on jay let's go to ellis in clinton what's up ellis
13:11what's going on b mr finley what's up i had my question my yeah my question for b mitch is
13:17uh
13:18out of all your years in the burgundy and gold and uh in the field grid out in the street
13:22uh
13:25who was the uh the hitter that hit you the hardest that you remember who won your bill
13:30and who have you hit the hardest as a return or running back the hardest i've ever been hit was
13:36in college and i've told the story a couple of times was by derrick thomas who played in alabama
13:40nothing in the pro i was hit harder than that i got hit by curtis uh curtis buckley uh he
13:47caught me in
13:47the right spot it wasn't even a hard hit but the person that i might have hit the hardest oh
13:52man
13:56uh what's the guy in dallas uh i forgot his name was magala or something like that i broke i
14:01broke
14:02his arm and another guy broke his arm in two places and uh he was at what was the stiff
14:07arm you broke
14:07the dude's arm wasn't didn't you stiff arm somebody no no no i broke his nose that was uh one
14:13of the
14:13grammatica brothers i broke one grammatica brother nose and the other brother i dislocated
14:17his shoulder they don't like you well they shouldn't try to tackle me they're a little
14:21bitty old dudes man they look like jerry coleman you ever met jerry coleman jerry used to work in
14:27he worked in uh baltimore oh sure yeah yeah they were about five four six trying to tackle somebody
14:33let's go down to tampa matt is in tampa matt what do you got for b hey fellas i appreciate
14:39you
14:39picking up the call hey i have a question for you i've thought about this a lot you may have
14:43answered it in the past what makes the difference between a punt returner and a kickoff returner
14:50why do teams not use the same cat for both because i think teams think the kick return uh they
14:58need to
14:59have a guy who's a little bigger or more sturdy and the punt return they need they think they need
15:04a
15:04guy who's more shifty i believe if you could do one you could do both of them the only difference
15:08is
15:09and i and i i use this because my profession in the media now if you're on if you're a
15:14radio guy
15:15you're more of a kick returner if you're a tv guy you're more of a punt returner in tv you
15:21get a
15:21short period of time to make things happen yeah in radio you get a long extended that's the same thing
15:26about kickoff return and punt return so i just feel you got to be able to adjust and know what
15:30you're
15:30dealing with so i came in great i had never done either one of them and i was given the
15:36opportunity
15:36i return a punt okay i'll kick off for a touchdown they start saying let's see if you can all
15:42catch
15:42punts the punts the one thing you got to be better with at punt is catching and reading the ball
15:48because the every punt is a different spin every kickoff really left handed or right left left foot
15:54to the right foot right it's still end over end so when you're dealing with the punt is everything
15:59is different a left footed punter can kick you 10 punts and all 10 of them will be a different
16:03spin
16:04right footed punter come and do the same thing and all 10 can be different so you got to be
16:08uh much
16:09more astute at reading the punt and how the spin is that is very insightful great answer right there
16:16great question matt all right here's the plan if you're on hold stay there 800-636-1067 800-636-1067
16:24we'll keep asking mitch anything going i also have a very interesting question something was
16:29said to me this morning that i do not know how to react to i'm going to ask you what
16:33you would have
16:33said it is be mitch of finley
16:35you
