Stefon Diggs had his first practice as a Commander on Friday, and then his first presser as well. We aired the latter on BMitch & Finlay and turned it over to the callers - how fired up are YOU after Day 1 of the Diggs era?
Transcript
00:00Phone lines are packed. I think everybody's kind of reacting to what was an awesome introduction for Stephon Diggs in
00:06the Burgundy and Gold.
00:07He had a great press conference, had a great practice. It was cool to see him run around, see how
00:11quick his feet are.
00:12His feet are quick as hell.
00:13I want to let my guy Juan in Fairfax chime in. What's up, Juan?
00:18What up, Juan?
00:19Good afternoon. Good afternoon, gentlemen. Good afternoon.
00:22So, so, Trekkie, I like what I'm hearing from Stephon Diggs, and I like what I'm hearing. I like it.
00:30And this is what makes me further know that Jay and Daniels will have a bounce-back season this year.
00:37Everybody's talking trash and everything. They can talk trash, but he's going to put it on the field, and he's
00:42going to let it be known.
00:43He will be a number – Jay and Daniels will be a number one quarterback.
00:47And by the fact that Stephon Diggs is going to help him, Stephon Diggs is going to help this man?
00:54Come on, bro. You've got to see it for what it is. You've got to see it for what it
00:57is.
00:57He will have a bounce-back season, and I can't wait to see the team on the field for Terry
01:02McCorn on one side and Stephon Diggs on another.
01:05Come on. It ain't nothing to it. Let's do it. Let's go!
01:10Appreciate you, Juan.
01:11Juan getting like Mark.
01:12Yo, Juan is getting like Mark.
01:13Juan, Juan, it's all the –
01:14Juan, it's all the –
01:15Juan, it's all the –
01:16Let's check in with Byron in San Antonio.
01:18What's up, B?
01:19B, what's up, man? I haven't heard from you in a while, bro.
01:21Hey, hey, y'all interrupted me. I was in the closet looking for my helmet and my shoulder pads.
01:27I'm ready to go. All they got to do is call me up.
01:30But, nah, I'm excited. I'm excited. I'm excited. I'm excited.
01:35But pump your brakes on that Fun Bunch.
01:37You got to score a lot of daggone points talking about Fun Bunch.
01:41They put up 40 like eight times that season in 91.
01:46Fun Bunch wasn't 91. 91 was the posse.
01:50Posse?
01:51Get your nicknames right. Byron?
01:54Hey, it's still a lot of points.
01:56Either one is still a lot of daggone points.
01:59Y'all have a good one.
02:00Appreciate you, man.
02:01Take care, man.
02:02Hey, Jeff, can I ask you a quick question?
02:04What's up?
02:05When Byron started talking about going in the closet, I was real curious where that was headed.
02:09He was looking for his shoulder pads.
02:11It was him and the Isley brothers.
02:14Jeff, I'm just saying, I thought that was a prime Jeff Posse moment.
02:19Yeah, and Stephon Diggs looked very good today.
02:23How excited are you, Jeffrey?
02:25Oh, I'm excited for sure.
02:27I just can't wait until the regular season.
02:30And I just hope, I hope, I just hope we just smack everybody because I've been getting verbally abused for
02:38the past year.
02:39So, it's on.
02:41Appreciate you.
02:42Let's keep it going.
02:43Ignore them Bamas, Jeff.
02:46It's a different team, man.
02:47Different ball game.
02:48Our guy Shane is in Fairfax.
02:50What's up, Shane?
02:52What's up, JP?
02:53B. Mitch.
02:54Happy Friday, boys.
02:55How are you guys doing today?
02:56We're good, brother.
02:58Hey, look, anything.
03:00The one that's happy right now is Terry.
03:03Terry finally had somebody on the opposite side of him that can get him open.
03:08And all it does is make this receiver room a lot better.
03:12But let's slow the brakes a little bit.
03:15We've not done nothing yet.
03:16That schedule is still brutal.
03:18So, before we go ahead and crown them the champions of whatever, let's make sure that we're not champions off
03:26the field.
03:27Let's do it on the field.
03:29But now, I still think I hate to bust a bubble.
03:32That schedule is brutal.
03:34And until that defense is proven, then it is all what it is.
03:39But now, I'm excited.
03:40I mean, we finally got to number two for Terry.
03:43I'm happy for Terry, who I'm happy for.
03:45All right, man.
03:46Appreciate the shame.
03:47Thanks for the call, bud.
03:49Ooh, we're going back to Texas.
03:50I bet Toothpick's fired up.
03:51Hello, Toothpick.
03:53How you doing, buddy?
03:54Hey, this is what it is, JP.
03:56What's up, Beavis?
03:57Listen, no disrespect.
03:59I want to say this first.
04:00No disrespect for Tana, Pierre Garcon, Jackson, Reed.
04:06No disrespect for him, but what he has right now has me thinking about the posse.
04:12And that's a fun one, but the posse.
04:14And Jaden probably woke up happy as hell this morning.
04:18Like, I'm about to go throw the two, number one, a tight end that's a monster, a guy coming out
04:22the backfield.
04:23I can hand the ball off.
04:25I can get the ball out of my hands.
04:26I don't have to put on a cape.
04:28And when I do have to put on a cape, it's because they're running man-to-man,
04:32and I can run up to 20 yards and slide and not get myself hurt.
04:36That's all I wanted to say, and I waited until we had a practice to make this call.
04:40Thank y'all, man.
04:41You know I'm always looking.
04:42Appreciate your pick.
04:44I think people are fired up, man.
04:45800-636-1067.
04:48800-636-1067.
04:50We've seen Stephon Diggs on the field now.
04:53We've still got some work to do, though.
04:54Sure.
04:54We've got to be fired up.
04:56But I understand it's with a little caveat.
04:59Dude, it's August 6th.
05:01August 7th, rather.
05:02Like, hell yeah.
05:03Nothing.
05:04Like, I think the defense looks so much different.
05:07Did you notice the four-safety look?
05:10It's possible.
05:11They do it.
05:12We've seen it now two days in a row.
05:13When you get into certain areas when you know it's short yardage,
05:19and they put in their big guys, you bring in your guys, your safeties and all.
05:23Sure tackles if they run the ball, and guys that are good enough to cover the tight ends.
05:27Let's check out with our guy, Elijah in B.C.
05:32I agree with you, man.
05:33It's been interesting.
05:34What's up, Eli?
05:36What's going on, fellas?
05:37Thanks for taking my call, man.
05:38I think Diggs, his mind is in the right place with this.
05:42I think it's difficult for traditional number one elite athletes to have their role changed.
05:48So I was just kind of curious to see how he would handle just having a different type of role
05:54when you're that type of elite athlete.
05:57But I think he's going to do great, man.
05:59And I think with Tunsil, there's different things that they're going to be able to do with the offensive line,
06:04and some blocking things that he's just going to eat up things underneath for you.
06:08So like the last caller just said, now when Jaden decides to run, he can actually do that safely.
06:16And I think another thing I wanted to say, I think Jaden can start to manipulate defenses with his eyes
06:21now.
06:23Because every time he looks a certain direction, the defense wants to jump.
06:27So spacing changes.
06:28When the defense respects all of your skill position guys, if the quarterback looks his way,
06:34they're going to adjust and shift so he can just start looking all over the board.
06:39Did y'all see that breakdown of him yesterday?
06:42We said he's capable of making five reads under four seconds.
06:46I don't know if y'all saw that, but somebody did a breakdown,
06:49and he literally made five reads under four seconds before he delivered that ball.
06:54So you talk about a guy who can make all of these types of reads.
06:58Yeah, man, appreciate you.
06:59B just did it with his eyes.
07:01Does that even feel that remarkable to you?
07:03Yeah.
07:04I mean, because, like, some people have to stare it down.
07:06But, nah, guys that understand what's happening, they see it before it happens.
07:10So when I'm looking here, not only am I reading this receiver coming from here,
07:14I'm also reading the guy that's coming over the top.
07:16So that's two right there.
07:17I come back here, boom, boom, and I come back over there,
07:19and I'm reading two people on the other side.
07:20That's five, and real quick.
07:22Yeah.
07:23Yeah.
07:24I think it's pretty damn remarkable.
07:28But, like, he was saying about how he's going to handle being, like, a different role.
07:32He had a different role last year.
07:34He played 55% of the plays.
07:36He was used to playing the bulk of the plays, 55%, but he still had an effective season.
07:41I think – I also think it's entirely possible that we get into this season,
07:48and this is far less 1-2 and 1-1-A.
07:54Like, there's going to be looks for everybody in this offense.
07:58I think we get too caught up on, like, assigning this depth chart on an offense
08:02that's going to be running receivers in and out all the time and from different positions.
08:06I don't worry about what rank you are, 1, 2, whatever.
08:12Be productive.
08:13Right.
08:14It's all that matters.
08:14Listen to me.
08:15You know, we're going to have a question coming up later.
08:18What if Diggs were to come in here this year and have 1,200 yards and Terry has 1,100
08:24and something yards?
08:25Terry gets 1050, Diggs gets 1,200.
08:28But what if Terry's yards per catch go up in some of the touchdowns?
08:33Will it say somebody outduels somebody?
08:35You know what I care about?
08:37I don't care about who outduels who.
08:39I care about this football team winning.
08:41And if both of the guys go out and have a big season, that's all that matters.
08:45We are so enamored with trying to cause competition between the people trying to perform for the overall
08:52that we forget about what the overall idea is to win damn football games.
08:57Right.
08:57And however that happens, it happens.
08:59Right.
09:01I couldn't agree more.
09:02I think it's entirely possible that this is not – there is nothing compelling the offense to be,
09:09okay, well, Terry has to get more yardage.
09:11What they have to do is win games.
09:13There you go.
09:14There you go.
09:16That's it.
09:16Dude, I actually saw our boy Carlos at Saberna Park this morning.
09:19I don't know if you saw him.
09:20Los, what up, man?
09:24I am hurt.
09:25I was out in that front.
09:27It was hot, dude.
09:28It was hot.
09:28It was hot.
09:30But listen, I put on a click.
09:31I got a bunch of signatures.
09:33Talked to some of the players.
09:35And, man, I'm fired up, man.
09:36Terry was cool.
09:37Stephon Diggs was cool.
09:39Listen, man.
09:40We're going to have a 1,000-yard running back and two 1,000-yard receivers in this year's campaign.
09:49My words.
09:50Believe on that.
09:51You heard it here first.
09:51Thanks for the call, guys.
09:53Thank you, buddy.
09:53You know, back in the day, they had 1,000-yard receivers and 1,000-yard running backs.
09:59Yeah, dude.
10:00It's just highly functional offense.
10:02Yeah.
10:03And nobody cared about who was number one, two, three, four.
10:06They didn't care.
10:07They won a lot of damn football games.
10:10Totally.
10:11Yeah.
10:12B. Mitch and Finley, 106-7, the fan.
10:15Keep these phone lines going.
10:16I want to let everybody call in.
10:17There's a lot of excitement among the fan base.
10:19Jeff is in Pennsylvania.
10:20What's up, Jeff?
10:21What's up, Jeff?
10:23Hey, guys.
10:24Great to talk to you.
10:26I've been a fan since 1972.
10:29All right.
10:29And I've been seeing all the Super Bowl wins and all the great times,
10:35and I've been through the worst times, too.
10:38And I'm telling you what, I haven't been this excited about an offense for this team
10:43in a long, long time.
10:45And I don't think we're going to be the fun bunch.
10:47I think we're going to be the stun bunch.
10:49We're going to make people's mouths hang open and the eyes bug out.
10:54That's what we can do.
10:55I'm really excited.
10:57All right, bro.
10:57I love that, man.
10:58The stun bunch.
11:00I kind of like that.
11:01Oh, baby.
11:01I'm also just not worried about nicknames, but that's all good.
11:05I meant to say this, B.
11:07Of the Steph Diggs lines that I tweeted out,
11:09I loved when he said about Antonio Williams.
11:13He said, I'm trying to pull it up.
11:15They don't get no names.
11:16Yeah, he said,
11:18YoungGuy14 can hoop a little bit.
11:19Young guys don't get a name yet.
11:21He's 14, but he could go.
11:22I thought that was really good.
11:24I like that.
11:24Oh, yeah.
11:24I like that one a lot.
11:25You got to earn it, bro.
11:27The other thing that couldn't have been more true,
11:30Diggs said,
11:30the one thing he doesn't miss about being back home,
11:33the humidity.
11:35Oh, it was out today, bro.
11:37Dude.
11:38So they moved practice up earlier,
11:41and they moved practice up earlier this year to try to beat the heat.
11:46And by and large, it's been cool at least first thing in the morning.
11:50It's been hot, bro.
11:52Today, all hot all day.
11:54Yeah.
11:54I'm pulling it up.
11:55It's 85.
11:56It feels like 91.
11:58I don't really know.
11:59I assume humidity is on a 100% scale.
12:03Well, humidity right now is at 75%.
12:06Yeah.
12:07Like, you could almost make a snowball out of the air.
12:09Yeah.
12:10It's like walking in gumbo.
12:11I tell you, I had some days, though, boy, in Louisiana with that thing in the 90s.
12:15You remember when we went to Miami?
12:17Was that last year, two years ago?
12:18Yeah, my shirt was just soaking wet.
12:20I'm not even talking about the game.
12:21I'm saying when we went down there for the joint practices.
12:24Oh, yeah.
12:24When Jaden lit up the Dolphins.
12:26Yeah.
12:26That South Florida humidity is different, man.
12:29That's like 92%.
12:30All that damn water.
12:31So, be Mr. Finley live in a tent, sweating for you.
12:36Sweating for you.
12:38I want to keep the phone lines open at noon.
12:40I want to hear from some of the other players that made their return today.
12:43Dorrance Armstrong, Trey Amos, and Tress Way.
12:46Nobody go anywhere.
