00:00Paul Skeens came into Major League Baseball after dominating at LSU with so much hype.
00:09Everyone was talking about Paul Skeens and how good this kid was going to be.
00:12Generational talent, flamethrower, nobody could touch him, right?
00:16Then he gets Livvy Dunn, the international, world-famous influencer, LSU gymnast.
00:22That's his girlfriend.
00:22So the two of them are everywhere, right?
00:25They're on red carpets.
00:26They're going to, you know, every big gala, every big event, you know, the ESPYs and whatnot.
00:33The Pirates haven't won anything since Paul Skeens has become a member of their franchise.
00:39They've been somewhat competitive, but not this year with Paul Skeens on the mound.
00:46The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost 14 games with Paul Skeens as the starter.
00:52Now, you might be able to say that is not Paul Skeens' fault.
00:55That's the offense, that's the defense, that's the bullpen.
00:59No.
01:00It is as much Paul Skeens' fault that this team has lost 14 games as Paul Skeens himself.
01:08Tonight, they are minus 130, or the Brewers are minus 130 favorites over Paul Skeens and the Pirates,
01:15with Kyle Harrison coming off the IL to pitch for the Brewers.
01:19He's been tremendous at points this year.
01:21He got a little tired in July, and he was shut down with an injury for the last month,
01:26but he's now back on the bump for the Brewers.
01:28The Brewers are tremendous at home.
01:30The Pirates aren't great on the road in Paul Skeens, whether it be home or road.
01:34Paul Skeens hasn't been great.
01:36The numbers for Paul Skeens, I mean, this is just shocking.
01:41His ERA in July was 6.25.
01:44His ERA is 3.9.
01:47This guy is, we're used to seeing a sub-2 ERA for Paul Skeens, not sub-4.
01:56Hits per inning are up to 1.2.
01:59Walks per inning is 0.38.
02:02And how about this stat for Paul Skeens?
02:05Skeens has allowed five runs in the last two starts, five or more earned runs.
02:11As many times, Ed, he, as he did in his last six starts, three times,
02:16as he did in his first 72 starts of his Major League Baseball career.
02:21Last two games, back-to-back, five earned runs given up,
02:25and he got racked a couple of starts ago, four starts ago, got lit up.
02:31Three starts of five or more earned runs,
02:34tying as many times as he had in the previous 72 starts in Major League Baseball for Paul Skeens.
02:43That is unbelievable.
02:45The question is, why?
02:47Why is Paul Skeens having such a difficult time this year?
02:52And it comes down to velocity.
02:54Look at this.
02:56In his first two seasons in Major League Baseball,
02:59Paul Skeens threw pitches at 98 or higher, 1,152 times.
03:07This year, just 95 pitches have gone over 98 or at 98 or higher.
03:15That is an average of four times per start.
03:19Previously, it was 28 times per start.
03:2528 to four.
03:26That is a dramatic drop in an era of power pitchers,
03:31in an era of guys pumping 100-mile-per-hour fastballs all game long.
03:36Paul Skeens is down to four pitches on average per start at 98 or higher.
03:44You have to ask the question as to whether or not Paul Skeens is healthy.
03:49Is he healthy?
03:52He was a generational talent.
03:55He was seen as a Roger Clemens, a Nolan Ryan, a workhorse, right?
04:00But you have to ask about the Tommy John potential because so many of these pitchers
04:05who are power pitchers, who have thrown so many innings,
04:08who have come through all of this,
04:10who have come through so many pitches through college,
04:14minors, although he ripped through the minors,
04:16into the big leagues.
04:17to神仙 saw the cash right way more,
04:17you're already partying with fear,
