00:00under 20 national titles since 2023. Paige Sheppard of the USA goes in lane number five.
00:06She's committed to Stanford Uni. Maharadura goes in lane number four. A 207 athlete at her best.
00:15Olivia Solomon in lane three of Guyana. And Ivy Bethroyd of Australia is in lane two. Big cheers
00:24from the Aussie contingent. Anais Maya of France is on the inside. 202.97. So just underneath
00:31that 203 mark this season. Here we go. Heat number three of five in the women's 800 meters. Top five
00:41through automatically. Swiftly away.
00:55And two laps light ahead for these under 20s. And a strong start actually from Olivia Solomon.
01:00They got on and is taking this out pretty hard to get to the break point and get herself into
01:03a
01:03decent position. Not too much strain on her form though. She's looking very relaxed.
01:14And now we've got athletes kind of three, four of rest really in that front group.
01:19Paige Sheppard just sat back slightly. Got to be careful not to be boxed in there on the inside.
01:24The 800 meters can get so, so tactical that being on the inside suddenly can change your race.
01:30Things move so very quickly. Rossum in second. Solomon leading then.
01:37The Greek looking comfortable.
01:44And now on the inside Maya of France tries to find her way through. The small gap appeared. She's taken
01:50advantage of it.
01:51She needs to make sure that again, she holds that line now so she doesn't get too boxed in. The
01:55bell goes.
01:5763 through the first lap, so slightly slower than we've seen.
02:02These girls will want to pick it up if they want to get themselves in that fastest non-automatic spot.
02:10They've got five athletes just about clear now. Barreto trying to get herself up onto the heels of those five
02:16that are trying to pull away.
02:18Realistically, everybody's still in contention though. Mary McLean on the outside of Canada.
02:22Bothroyd of Australia now in good position.
02:30Russo still leading.
02:33Bothroyd and Russo stride for stride around that final bend as they come in towards the home straight.
02:37These two pretty well clear now. We've got about three meters back on the rest of the field and the
02:42sprint ensues between them.
02:46Bothroyd is going to settle down for silver or second place, I should say, in this heat.
02:51As Russo comes through to take the win, it's going to be close for the final three spots, so tight
02:55on the line.
02:57It's going to be a photo between Sheppard, Maya McLean and Solomon to take the final three.
03:02Four athletes coming across, you could practically throw a blanket over them as Russo and Butroyd get themselves safely through
03:08in 2-0-4.
03:11I think Maya and McLean might just have it. Solomon will be waiting nervously to see if this photo falls
03:18in her favor.
03:25They're just taking a minute to find out. It was very, very close.
03:31Those final two spots.
03:35Fitzgerald
03:38with 2-10-73.
03:41We'll be anxiously waiting to see if she moves through as well.
03:44National under-20 record for Solomon is sick.
03:48It's good enough to put her into the fastest non-automatic qualification spots, but a national under-20 record is
03:54a pretty good day.
03:55At the office, 2-0-6-55 as McLean is awarded the fifth and final auto-queue with 2-0
04:02-6-47.
04:04And Kovacic, 2-0-8-38.
04:07And the season's best, 2-0-8-71 for Barreto.
04:13Amarudara, 2-0-6-58 to round off. Heat number three are the women's 800 meters.
04:20Well, I enjoyed that little battle between Ivy Boothroyd and Juliana Russo.
04:29Tell you what, Shepard looked good.
04:31She didn't expend any more energy than that which she needed to.
04:35She was coasting as she came across the line.
04:38I know it looked like perhaps she was tying up.
04:40She wasn't.
04:41She was in cruise control, but...
04:44Russo was not to be headed by Ivy Boothroyd.
04:48It ran really well for that second spot there.
04:51Not that far outside her PB.
04:53High 2-0-2 is her best.
04:55It's just a shade inside 2-0-3.
04:56It looks like she can beat that, judging by what we've seen in that heat.
05:01Especially in this heat, it's absolutely baking here.
05:082-800s still to come.
05:10We're coming up 25-2 local time.
05:13We're back at 6.
05:14Just enough time to eat some food, do some prep and go again.
05:19Same can be said for the male and female 100-meter runners.
05:25We've got the brilliant line-ups for the semis for the second session,
05:30which will start with pole vault and discus.
05:33These aren't
05:33as for the female 100-meter reinforcements of a horror game.
