00:13From February 2027, Jetstar customers wanting guaranteed overhead locker space will need to pay from $25 each way,
00:23while smaller bags that fit under the seat will remain free.

00:32with airlines looking for new ways to boost revenue through optional extras such as seat selection, baggage, priority boarding and

00:42A lot of the overseas low-cost carriers do do this and the rationale that Jetstar have given is it'll
00:51speed up the check-in,
00:54particularly the boarding because they don't need to weigh the carry-on and that sort of thing which generally has
01:02a maximum of 10 kilos.
01:04While the change has divided travellers, it is believed more airlines will continue exploring similar fee-based models
01:11as operating costs rise and competition remains limited.
01:15Domestically we basically have a duopoly as we know between Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin,
01:22so we don't quite have the same low airfares that you might expect on a market like Australia, domestically anyway.
