00:17Here we have Natalie Portman in quite possibly her finest hour to date,
00:21starring as Nina Sayers, a highly driven but somewhat inhibited ballerina.

01:10It's a fairy tale based in the world of Swan Lake, the ballet.
01:13Uh, but it's kind of mean and nasty and dark, and Natalie Portman plays a ballerina slowly
01:20going insane.
01:21Surely not the angelic Natalie.
01:27Sweet girl.
01:28Eek.
01:28Not such a hottie now.
01:30Actually, although Nat was in talks for several years to play Nina,
01:33both Rachel Weisz and Jennifer Connelly were both in the running for the role.
01:36Aside from being under immense pressure to land the lead role of the Swan Queen,
01:40poor old Nina is squabbling with a sleazy Cassell,
01:42You bit me?
01:43an overbearing step-mom in form of Barbara Hershey,
01:46the jealousy of the former prima ballerina and neurotic Winona Ryder,
01:49What would you do to get this role?
01:51and a potent rival to her ultimate dream, the seductive Myla Kunis.
01:55Oh, Lily.
01:55And guess what?
01:56Lily seems to have caught the roving eye of our French Lothario.
01:59Watch the way she moves.
02:01Sensual.
02:02She's not faking it.
02:04As it turns out, Natalie and Myla were friends, not rivals,
02:07and Portman even suggested Kunis for the role of Lily.
02:10Naturally, the sexy Myla bagged the role ahead of Blake Lively through Skype
02:13without having to audition.
02:15Both Natalie and Myla had previous dance experience,
02:17but even so, the roles were seriously full-on.
02:20I trained for a year before the film started.
02:23I was doing five to eight hours a day for a year.
02:28Wowzers.
02:29So what did we make of the movie?
02:31Visually stunning with some intense and at times,
02:33uncomfortable scenes, this is Aronofsky after all,
02:35and some outstanding performances, notably Portman and Cassell,
02:39Black Swan is a masterclass in filmmaking and well worth a gander.
02:42But what can we expect?
02:44The unexpected.
02:46It's not like anything you've seen before.
02:48Damn straight, Portman.
02:49And that's why we are giving this a whopping five stars.

02:58She needs love to break the spell,
03:00but her prince falls for the wrong girl,
03:03and she kills herself.
