DEADLINE DAY! Blockbuster trades have already started- As LA Dodgers land ace Tarik Skubal. The rich get richer. Are the Dodgers "breaking baseball" or just playing it better than others? What do you make of LAD adding another superstar to their roster? Does baseball need a salary cap?
Transcript
00:00the dodgers right i would say that probably every other team in the major leagues wants a salary cap
00:06after seeing what the dodgers do and feel like all right and the red socks are part of that team
00:10because you know they're probably like well we don't necessarily have to spend that money and
00:15still be competitive do you think if george steinbutter was still alive and not his loser son
00:19that the the yankees would be wanting a salary cap no not the yankees i think there's a handful
00:24a team like right now the dodgers i think the yankees are probably in that the new mets owner
00:28probably doesn't want one but he's probably kicking himself in the ass spending all that
00:31money on juan soto and they stink right to be clear curtis you think that the collusion comes from
00:36the fact that nobody else put an offer together for scoobal and that the dodgers got him because
00:42everybody else wants that lockout yes that the owners if the lockout is far more sellable to
00:48baseball fans if it is on the heels of a three-peat by the dodgers okay if the dodgers stumble
00:54and they
00:54don't get back to the world series and say the rays win the world series then it's more difficult
01:00to sell to the major league baseball fan that this is an urgent imminent danger to the future of the
01:05sport and we need to lock out a season to implement a salary yeah but i don't think the dodgers
01:10have
01:10to win look look at look at this greg just said he wants to lock out my boy text i
01:15don't i don't want
01:15to lock out excuse me i want a salary cap i'm sorry i'm sorry a salary cap my my boy
01:22texted me over the
01:22weekend it was like yo this is scoobal to the dodgers they uh mlb needs a salary cap so i
01:28think
01:28there are a lot of fans whether the dodgers win the world series or not that probably go
01:34major league baseball needs a salary cap and the dodgers what they're probably trying to do is
01:39saying you know what you they're probably this is a rental for them i don't know if they're necessarily
01:44gonna you know sign school i think they probably will i mean they have endless gobs and gobs of money
01:51and so that's because show hate deferred you know well and there's the red socks could have had
01:55show a defer every other team in baseball could have had show a defer they are sit they're sitting
02:00on one point i think the number is 1.2 billion dollars in deferred payments yeah the players and so
02:08they don't care at all right and so it's short of getting an owner like that in your city i
02:16think
02:16there's probably a lot of people are like all right let's try and somehow find a way to even
02:21things out a little bit so that teams can be competitive and if the i'm not so sure curtis
02:27when it comes to owner collusion because i think the owners want the small market teams to remain in
02:33baseball and they're never going to be able to compete with a team like the dodgers never well
02:38the owners right now don't want it to be easy or for any other team to compete but the dodgers
02:44their
02:44goal after this is to prevent other teams from outspending them and for them to have a secure
02:49guaranteed payroll for each of the next 20 seasons so that their values of their franchises are higher
02:55so they can sell their team and make more money and you think the players like all these guys from
02:59the dodgers deferring money i don't think the players want that the players are probably like
03:04wait a second i want my money now why do i have to wait god forbid something happens you know
03:09what i
03:09mean and you're deferring this money till you know who knows when so i think the majority of players if
03:14there is some issues within that union they're probably against players deferring for their money
03:20here's a text that says it's amazing that they can fund the whole thing with a half empty ballpark
03:27on a sunday on a sunday afternoon i was shocked i know did you see the picture of edelman with
03:32his
03:33daughter i was like at first i said oh my god why is he posting this he's going to get
03:36absolutely
03:36bombarded and then he had an entire section to himself i didn't see that yeah it's like yeah it
03:42was on instagram if you if you honestly want to subsidize every market in baseball and and say let's
03:50make it an even playing field and hand in the absolute massive advantage that you have had as a
03:55red sox fan then that is on you and that is not something i will ever in a million years
04:00do and the
04:01people texting you and greg and wiggy i don't dispute it for a second did they text you in 2018
04:06that we
04:06need a salary cap no do they text you in 2021 that we need a salary cap no okay so
04:11all of a sudden
04:12because of the behavior of an owner and the behavior of one franchise it's not one curtis
04:17would you stop it if you had to if you had to honestly sit here and bet and go out
04:22of the what
04:22is it i'm talking about the owner of the dodgers no no i'm saying but the what is it 30
04:26major league
04:26baseball teams or something like that i'm willing to bet you that probably 27 of those teams all want
04:33salary cap what owner of an industry would not want a salary cap every owner that owns anything
04:38but you make it sound like it's the red sox the singular owner was not john henry i'm talking about
04:43because of an owner in la and the way he conducts business we are now saying that all of us
04:49have to
04:50change what we do and to me that is absurd right but i think before the dodgers started doing business
04:56as business kind of is being done right now i bet a lot of these owners were might not have
05:01been
05:01pushing for salary caps but they were pushing for like uh number of years guys can get when it came
05:08to new contracts like that i think the red sox you could tell because think about how many contracts
05:13they were stuck on guys whether it was kyle crawford whether it was adrian gonzalez whether it was david
05:18price where you go jesus these guys again eight nine ten eleven years sure and they're having to eat
05:24money so i the owners will manny manny ramirez was being paid up until last season or whatever it was
05:30but at least what manny he was pretty he was good for the majority of his contract i so i
05:35bet a lot
05:35of these owners are sitting pedroia has deferred money there's a ton of no no i'm saying a lot of
05:39these owners are like we need to fix this what we're giving um vlad guerrero jr 15 year deals or
05:47and now we're having to eat money for seven eight of those years because not necessarily him but he's not
05:54very good look at mookie bets yeah well listen we can get i want to get you on the record
05:59on that
06:00this morning when it comes to the dodgers and to that deal for tarek scuba and how do you feel
06:06about that does that how do you feel about major league baseball
