00:00Yeah, you know, I think it's a good move. I like the move. I think that it is, you're bringing
00:06in a player that has a track record that helps you and can start a game come playoff time.
00:14So I don't look at it and complain that there were better guys out there. That's a good addition. He's
00:23a good player. If that's the best they can do, that's fantastic. Get another one like him.
00:28I have no problem whatsoever with them making a move for a starting pitcher. And I think that he would
00:35be in your pitching rotation come playoff time. So I'm all for it.
00:40Yeah, this is the type of thing that Cubs needed in their rotation. He's a swing and miss guy. That's
00:46what he brings. That's what they don't have.
00:50Also, the playoff experience, something that they probably lack overall as well. I mean, they're arguably best starter or at
00:59least their second best starter right now, Shota Imanaga.
01:02You know, they didn't trust him last year to pitch in the playoffs. So he doesn't have that kind of
01:07experience.
01:08You know, the year has not been great, but this is kind of a one and done probably unless something
01:14crazy happens with Gaussman.
01:16He's got an on and expiring contract. You know, the names of the players that went back to the Blue
01:22Jays are not names that you were thinking about having any impact for the Cubs anytime soon.
01:27I counted 13 pitchers in their top 30, Dustin, and I did not see either guy mentioned.
01:34Right. So this is I'm happy. I'm happy to see this this morning. You know, obviously it would have been
01:41great to talk about Tariq Scooble today, but this is this is somebody that is playoff tested.
01:47Yeah, he is. He's a veteran. He fits. You're essentially swapping out Jamison Tyone for Kevin Gaussman. Tyone goes to
01:56the Jays, by the way.
01:56That's right. Different deal. Good for him. Hope it works.
01:59Because Gaussman is now a guy that you look at. There's 50 games left. He's going to probably make 10
02:07starts, nine or 10 starts.
02:08He won't be probably able to pitch until Thursday. His last outing was Saturday night. He was good. Five and
02:15two thirds against the Cardinals.
02:16So he played a National League team and five and two thirds. He gave up one earned run and he
02:23struck out four and nine hits.
02:25A lot of hits. But this is somebody who I think fits the profile. The kind of guy the Cubs
02:31were looking for.
02:32You trust the experience. He offers stability. Craig Council also last week talking.
02:37It might have been Friday before the game about how when you're looking at guys to add, you can't overlook
02:43or ignore the fact that you need somebody who fits into the culture and whose character is something that you
02:49trust moving forward, assimilating quickly to a new group and also being able to take the pressure that will be
02:55on him.
02:56Kevin Gaussman's had a great reputation in Major League Baseball.
02:59They're going to miss him in Toronto. So I think he's a quality guy as well, which makes him perfect
03:05and ideal for this matchup.
03:07The Cubs did what they needed to do. I'm glad that Jed Hoyer was out there searching for help and
03:13this time responded to the challenge.
03:15He's not done yet. We've got 12 hours, 11 hours now. And I think that the Cubs still can add
03:20more pieces.
