00:00Bruce, speaking of frustrating, how about the bullpen?
00:03Phil Maton just has not had it this year.
00:07Theobar last night gave up a very long home run,
00:11and it was not a great night for the Cubs relief core.
00:15What do they do?
00:16What options do they have?
00:18I know they're scanning the waiver wire.
00:20We said they're rummaging through everybody else's discards,
00:24and I just wonder what they do next.
00:26Rummage is the right word, I think,
00:28because you are looking for a diamond in the rough
00:32that's not out there in their own organization.
00:36They don't have that pitching in the Cub organization,
00:38and it's not there.
00:41They're not expecting it to be there.
00:43So both Carter Hawkins and Jed Hoyer every day
00:46are claiming guys off the waiver wire,
00:49sending them to AAA, even AA,
00:52and then hoping that they can get somebody to light it up.
00:57It's hard to find people at this point of the year in June
01:01to actually come into your bullpen and help you win.
01:05And they don't have the same magic, the same mojo going on in the bullpen
01:10that they had last year.
01:11So there's all kinds of different struggles that the Cubs are going through.
01:16They're still over .500.
01:18They still have certainly great opportunities
01:20with 90 ball games left in a season.
01:24But they don't look like a 90-plus win team right now.
01:29They would have to get extraordinarily hot and stay that way.
01:33So they need to prove to not us but to themselves
01:37that they're a better team than they've shown.
01:39They're a better team than they've shown.
01:39They're a better team than they've shown.
