00:37As we emerge out of the first couple of corners,
00:39Langenfelder getting pushed back pretty quickly.
00:41And as we head to turn three,
00:44Langenfelder back up the inside of Liam Evertz there.
00:48As they head away from us down there towards turn four and five,
00:52it's Ferez who leads the way.

01:14But look how bottomless this racetrack is here in Lommel.
01:18Ferez, your championship leader,
01:20with the absolute best start that he could have imagined.
01:23Coonan already on the charge.
01:24Goes past Groh, nips at the inside of Evertz.
01:27Not quite.
01:27Evertz still hanging on to third as they head down that back straight.
01:31Nervous look over the shoulder there from Evertz.
01:34Good bright start for Guillem-Ferez.
01:36But Sasha Coonan looking to make amends, Jay.
01:38Yeah, I'd hope that Evertz can get back onto a roll here.
01:42You know, at Lockhead last weekend, a couple of rounds ago,
01:45we saw Evertz get his first win of the season, I think.
01:50And, you know, we were hoping that would boost the confidence.
01:53Unfortunately, first moto, we went out with a mechanical.
01:55So I'm looking forward to seeing if he can get back into a rhythm here
01:59and put a good showing in for his home GP.
02:01Yeah, absolutely.
02:02Well, there he is in third, just going out of sight now.
02:04Here's Camden McClellan already making inroads as well.
02:07Quickly up into, what, fifth place on this opening lap.
02:10He knows he can't afford to hang around as well
02:12if he's going to have a good shot of having a cruisy 1-1,
02:15if you can call it a cruisy 1-1,
02:17because it took him until lap 12 to find his way into the lead,
02:20which he held until lap 17.
02:22But he was outside of the top 10 on the opening lap.
02:25Much better place this time around.
02:26There might be a little bit more urgency from Camden McClellan.
02:30And he knows he has a great opportunity to win this Grand Prix this weekend.
02:33When we talk about McClellan, the South African,
02:36he's got a big heart about him.
02:38I've watched him do some training, and he really digs deep.
02:41So I look forward to him being strong in the end of this moto,
02:45and hopefully we can get him up nice and quickly
02:47into that third position and fighting up for the front.
02:51Well, there he is just going through now,
02:52behind the rider in white with the Belgian flag on his back.
02:55Of course, Kunin, but I thought Langenfelder
02:58was going to have a lunge up the inside of Ferreres in the corner,
03:01just there in the top corner there, that turn three.
03:03But he wasn't quite close enough,
03:04and Ferreres looks like he's just put a bit of distance
03:06between Langenfelder in the last couple of corners
03:10as he looks to try and do a disappearing act if he can.
03:14Gerreres was looking fantastic in the first race, wasn't he,
03:16until he made that mistake over on the far side of the track.
03:19We saw it in the highlights,
03:20and obviously you watched it anyway in real time.
03:23But, yeah, it was just one of those strange incidents
03:26that then his whole race fell apart after that.
03:28Yeah, and I think what we're seeing from Ferreres is,
03:32me personally, I thought this was going to be
03:33one of the tougher races for Ferreres,
03:35and even when we go to Arnhem,
03:37I think if he can manage this championship
03:39through these couple of races,
03:41he's going to be in a good position.
03:42Get out of here mistake-free,
03:44capitalise on some points.
03:45Obviously, he did a qualifying race yesterday,
03:47so today it's been a positive day so far.
03:50Cameron McClellan forcing his way
03:52down the inside of Sascha Kunin in that back corner
03:54as he moves from fifth to fourth place.
03:57Cameron McClellan not hanging around
03:58as he goes after Everson Langenfelder
04:00and maybe even, once again, his teammate,
04:02like he did in race one.
04:03He's only five seconds off the pace
04:04at this point of the race.
04:05In race one, he was probably more 10 or 12.
04:07Here's the replay again.
04:09Kunin was already committed to the outside.
04:11McClellan got himself to the inside,
04:13nice and clean and tidy,
04:15and there was no reply there from Sascha Kunin
04:18as he just watched as McClellan went by.
04:22McClellan now going after Everson in red.
04:24This will be for third place.
04:25Yeah, I think for Everson right now,
04:27if he can just minimise the mistakes
04:29in these first couple of laps,
04:30try to find his rhythm,
04:31I think that's going to be a positive step for him.
04:32He's doing a little bit of looking back right now,
04:34so let's focus forward
04:35and just keep pounding those laps out.
04:38See what the lap times are.
04:40It was a 2.02.6 for Ferez last time around,
04:42which was the fastest lap of the race.
04:43He goes through even quicker,
04:452 minute 0.468.
04:47We've got the Rachelis brothers again,
04:50back in seventh and eighth.
04:51First moto, fourth and fifth,
04:53so look forward for the older brother,
04:55Karl, to come through.
04:57He was quite strong in that first moto,
04:59but hopefully they can put two consistent motos together,
05:01and hopefully one of them can end up on the box
05:03for the Yamaha guys.
05:04Yeah, well, they've had their share of podiums,
05:05haven't they?
05:06Karlis Raceless got on the box a week ago
05:07in Loquette, Czech Republic.
05:09Yanis, a couple of podiums back-to-back
05:11in Portugal and South Africa,
05:13second and third, those two rounds,
05:15and obviously finishing fourth in the first race.
05:17Karlis Raceless has a fantastic job
05:19or opportunity to get himself on a podium again,
05:22but look how tight it is.
05:23You've got McClellan on third place,
05:25but then Sacha Kuhn and Karlis Raceless 31 apiece,
05:28Yanis on 30.
05:28They're a few points off of a podium visit at the moment,
05:31but as we've seen, anything can happen.
05:33McClellan charging down the inside of Liam Evertz,
05:35looks across to the left,
05:36wants to know that he's got it covered,
05:38stays lower over that jump over the far side,
05:40cuts back to the inside.
05:41McClellan now up in the third place.
05:43Yeah, just a fun fact there,
05:45I think what we don't really realise is Yanis,
05:48he actually graduated from high school this year,
05:51so still a young kid, still a lot on his plate,
05:53but now he can shift his focus onto doing his job,
05:56and that's racing.
05:57Maxim Groh coming under pressure from the number 47
06:00on the Monterey's Yamaha there of Karlis Raceless.
06:02These two guys are going to be fighting over 7th place
06:05and Groh on the Honda,
06:07separating the two Raceless brothers at the moment,
06:09but with 24 minutes plus two laps to go,
06:11Perez continues to lead Langerfelder by 3.5 seconds
06:14with McClellan, Evans and Sacha Kuhn and rounding out the top five.
06:28Carlos Raceless up on the pegs going the long way round.
06:30It's a smoother option.
06:31Look how big those holes are on the inside.
06:34And Karlis Raceless moves into 7th position now.
06:37So once again, the two Raceless brothers are now Linus Stern,
06:396th and 7th position towards the end of lap 3.
06:42And things are looking good for both the brothers.
06:44Just real quickly, Jay Wilson,
06:46what is your role at Yamaha then as a test rider
06:49and what is your involvement out there in Japan?
06:50What does it all entail for you?
06:52Yeah, so right now I'm based in Japan.
06:54I've been there for five years
06:55and I'm racing the Japanese motocross championship.
06:58We use that as a development stage, I guess, or a platform
07:01and we try to run through pre-production sort of things
07:05as well as developing the younger generation of Japanese riders
07:08and trying to give them a platform to develop
07:10and get back to a world-class stage
07:11as well as global communication.
07:14Obviously, European summer,
07:15I'm enjoying my time out here
07:16escaping the Japanese heat
07:18because it's brutal.
07:19But, yeah, I'm enjoying my time there
07:23and, you know, we try to communicate
07:25across the US, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
07:30A couple of riders trying to go a little bit too early there.
07:32Maybe one of those was Lolly Colmer
07:33but certainly Scott Smulders
07:36but it was Simon Langenfelder
07:37who thought he'd grab the foxhole shot
07:38but Ferez just nicks it up the inside
07:41and Guillem Ferez with his fifth foxhole shot of the season.
07:45On that triumph, triumph's done a lot of work
07:48over the last three years.
07:49You know, they're in a world championship leading position
07:52as a new manufacturer
07:53which is pretty impressive
07:54given the competition over the last few years
07:57and certainly with KTM doing a lot of the winning.
07:59Yamaha have had a few successes in there as well.
08:01But, yeah, great to see a new manufacturer to the floor
08:05and, you know, the success of these guys
08:07what we've seen this year
08:08the amount of podiums they've had between them
08:09the race wins
08:10and the fact that they've got the red plate, Jay
08:12is pretty impressive.
08:13Yeah, that's something that's very surprising to me right now
08:15is, you know, you think about all these manufacturers
08:17and the amount of years and data
08:19and the amount of engineers
08:21that have been working on these projects for so long
08:23for triumph to step into this
08:25and be leading the world championship right now
08:28and both riders being very competitive
08:30they're doing an amazing job.
08:33What maybe some people don't realise
08:35is that in Moto2, triumph do provide the engines
08:37for every team for that world championship
08:40in MotoGP in the Moto2 class
08:42so they've got engineering and engine sort of technical skills
08:46typically ticking away in the background
08:53and just picking up on that again
08:54obviously that knowledge obviously coming in
08:57very, very helpful
08:58of course a Moto2 engine is completely different
08:59to a motocross engine
09:00but they still have the technical know-how
09:02to try and figure things out I would imagine.
09:05Yeah, and coming from a testing point of view
09:07what I experience most days is
09:10engineers, things like that
09:11we pick one of the most brutal conditions
09:14to test and develop in
09:15and that's motocross.
09:17A lot of engineers they work with the road surface
09:19and consistent surfaces on a road bike
09:21but when you think about a car
09:23there's four wheels on asphalt
09:25with a lot of traction
09:26when we go to a motocross track
09:27conditions can change dramatically
09:30sand, mud, hard pack
09:32it can be humid temperatures to freezing cold
09:35so motocross is one of the most challenging
09:37brutal testing grounds
09:40for these machines
09:41Oh yeah, I mean Jay Wilson obviously
09:44this never more evident than where we've got here
09:46it's hot, it's humid, it's sand
09:47this circuit changes every lap
09:49every corner
09:49as every bike covers the ground here
09:52great to see the raceless brothers going at it here
09:55for six and seven
09:56Yanis and Carless
09:57Maxim Groh falling though
09:59down the leaderboard
10:00out of the top ten maybe
10:02so Maxim Groh here he does
10:04just folds the front in here does he
10:05at some point yes and then goes out the side door
10:07perfect dismount
10:09almost if it landed on the field
10:10give him a six out of ten for that one
10:11yeah and that
10:12that's just something so simple
10:13it can happen so easily around this course
10:15as soon as you relax or switch off just a little bit
10:18to take a breather
10:18it bites you quickly this sand
10:21and that comes down to fitness as well doesn't it
10:23how much you can sort of maintain that focus
10:26Jay Wilson obviously
10:28Perez leading the way
10:293.2 seconds
10:30we thought he'd got his bases covered in the first race
10:33but then we got to sort of lap 12 of 17
10:35as the race eventually became
10:38just made that one mistake
10:39put himself under pressure
10:40never seemed to recover for another couple of laps or so
10:43he can't afford to count the chickens yet can he
10:45because obviously 3.2
10:47that's a smaller gap that he had in that first race
10:49he just knows if he takes his eye off the ball
10:51a similar thing could happen
10:52he'll be maybe even more sort of pinpoint sharp
10:55this time around
10:56and I think in the pre-race show
10:57we heard it come from him
10:58it's like get out of this damage free
11:01minimize your mistakes
11:02take a top three if it's there
11:04and right now he's leading
11:06keep focused on the pit board
11:07keep doing your times
11:09don't overanalyze it
11:10and just be there at the end
11:11and maximize the points for today
11:14and of course
11:15the other thing is
11:16his closest rider in the championship
11:17Sasha Kuhn
11:17and he's in fifth place
11:19so Perez
11:19even if he's first, second, third or fourth
11:21he's still going to gain points
11:22over his rival
11:22so that's how you
11:24you know
11:24that's the smart thinking in this race
11:26isn't it
11:26your game plan
11:27your strategy
11:28exactly
11:28and I think we're seeing that from Perez this year
11:31he's been very calculated
11:32he's been pretty calm
11:33all season
11:34and even in this title chase
11:36now he's taken over the red plate
11:37not a lot has changed
11:38we haven't seen
11:39any crazy mishaps from him this year
11:41he seems very calculated
11:42he seems very mature
11:43about his
11:44the calculations
11:45and
11:46the way he's going about racing
11:48and it's really cool to see
11:49especially with his US experience
11:51and then coming back here
11:53it's really cool to see him developing
11:55Carlos Racelis
11:56alongside Giannis Racelis
11:57this is a battle 4-6 position
12:00Giannis goes to the outside
12:01Carlos nips up the inside
12:02and picks off his kid brother
12:04moves into that sixth place
12:05about three and a half seconds
12:06off of Sasha Kuhn
12:07and now
12:07Giannis tries to come back in
12:09yeah
12:09tries to get back down the inside
12:11as Giannis Racelis
12:12but no way through
12:13Carlos looking the stronger
12:14over the last couple of rounds here
12:15and I wonder how much of that is
12:16an EMX 250 program
12:18of 10 or 11, 12 races
12:19compared to where we are now
12:21we're already in 14
12:22which is more than he's had to do
12:23in his EMX 2 days
12:25and we've still got another 6 to go
12:275 to go after this
12:28so
12:29that might also be part of the problem
12:30in his rookie season
12:31of course
12:32such a long season
12:33coming from EMX
12:34now you're travelling
12:34you're going overseas a lot more
12:36you're doing a lot of back-to-back races
12:37it's a long season
12:38to maintain that fitness
12:39and stay healthy
12:40throughout the whole season
12:42is this battle about to emerge here
12:44between Guillain Perez and Simon Langenfelder
12:45at the last split
12:46just before we went through
12:47that long sweeping turn
12:48before pit lane
12:49the gap was down to 1.04 seconds
12:52it's now going to be
12:53maybe slightly less than that
12:55or maybe around about the same
12:56as they hit the line

12:57but Simon Langenfelder
12:59looking like he's gained in confidence
13:00over the last couple of laps
13:01and he's got Perez
13:03right where he wants him
13:04but for now
13:05Langenfelder is not Perez's threat
13:08in terms of the championship battle, Jay
13:10that's exactly right

13:11Perez just needs to focus on himself
13:13if he can manage this win
13:15and push his way through to the end
13:17then that's a positive
13:18but he's not the priority right now

13:29that's in that middle part of the circuit

13:33that was nice and doable yesterday
13:35as you could just sort of like
13:36load up the rear end
13:38and just spring
13:39your way over that
13:40but now that this kind of
13:41the race has gone on
13:42it's scuffed off a little bit
13:43more and more difficult
13:44to get that distance
13:46Langenfelder with good drive
13:47down the back straight
13:49doesn't even need to be
13:50that close to lunge
13:51we saw that on these two
13:52a week ago
13:52we get it again
13:54this time he nuts him off the track

14:22that's going to add a little bit more pressure
14:23so he just needs to relax
14:25try to learn from these guys
14:26and get back into his rhythm

14:40put in a couple of sprint laps
14:41and see if I can break the resolve
14:43of the two Triumph boys behind me
14:44that will be the plan
14:45easier said than done
14:46because just as easy as that is to say
14:49it's also easy just to make a mistake here
14:51in the blink of an eye
14:52yeah and with Camden right now
14:53he's had consistency
14:56with being really strong
14:57at the end of these motos
14:58so we've got to keep an eye on him

15:00and look for him to be in the fight
15:02at the very end
15:03Langenfelder really needs to capitalise
15:05on this gap with clear track
15:06and try getting into a rhythm out front
15:09take another look at this here

15:15he could have gone a little bit tighter
15:16but he continued that momentum
15:17Perez must have known it was coming as well

15:24and he ran off
15:25ran his luck
15:26they weren't happy about that
15:28they're thinking two weeks in a row
15:29these two have come together
15:30this time Langenfelder makes it stick
15:32and he's now two seconds clear
15:34and Perez now coming under attack
15:35from Camden McClellan
15:36and McClellan was so fast through here
15:39in the first race
15:41where he was just jumping his way
15:42through those big holes
15:43he's got his teammate
15:44where he wants him
15:45there may be a pass here
15:46down this next back straight

17:50thought about maybe going

17:52but he gets locked in
17:53maybe that just catches him up

19:32so this win
19:33long overdue
19:34for the defending champion
19:35if he can pull it off
19:36McClellan though
19:37making him work
19:38very very hard for it
19:38yeah I'm wondering

19:40fireworks coming in here soon

19:43we're talking about
19:43Ferez and the consistency
19:44the maturity that we're
19:45seeing from him this year
19:47he's been capitalizing
19:48on these mistakes

31:38and I came midweek
31:39and it was Olin's suspension test
31:41and it was already battered
31:43like this track is now
31:44but even rougher
31:45because it hadn't been groomed
