00:01:18away from college less than a month from the nfl whoo it's nearly here it's in the air um and

00:01:25yesterday big 10 media day the star of the show kurt signetti give me it all defending national

00:01:32champion takes the stage and he immediately in classic signetti fashion comes out firing

00:01:38the big 10 is is uh the best league in football uh and a lot of really good football teams

00:01:46it's hard

00:01:47to win on the road very physical football teams very well coached it definitely prepares you for

00:01:52the playoffs uh there's no doubt about it the numbers speak for themselves i mean we don't run

00:01:57a hype machine up here in the midwest we believe everything's earned not given and when we fall short

00:02:05we say we fell short we don't cry a river whine and complain

00:02:11all right and that's why we're the best the crazy thing is this was signetti before he went 15 and

00:02:18and won a natty mikey what what are you talking about what do you mean i'm saying his mindset oh

00:02:24no excuse me i'm sorry i thought yeah no like this was already who he was and now it's just

00:02:30the fire here mikey right i mean he came into indiana with quotes that you know stopped a lot of

00:02:37people in

00:02:37their tracks and he's just building on this um he was right about you know coming in saying he wins

00:02:43he's not taking the backseat to anyone two years later he wins a national championship

00:02:47comes into this media day already a national championship on his belt and says listen the

00:02:52sec is a bunch of soft guys that um cry and complain about everything the sec hypotheticals sec

00:02:59versus big 10 listen the facts are the big 10 has won the last three national championships

00:03:04and you know what's funny is someone posted on instagram first 15 comments are literally all

00:03:11proving his point about sec people crying and complaining that the big 10 i'm like you guys

00:03:19this is all proving coach signetti's point that everything runs through the midwest man the big 10

00:03:25i know we had we added some west coast teams i get that so these are some numbers that i've

00:03:29gathered

00:03:30in my preseason even the bowl seasons eight and two against the sec in the last two bowl seasons

00:03:36this is maybe even more impressive 11 wins by seven different teams for the big 10 in these playoff

00:03:42formats only five such wins terrible for the sec sometimes your teams have to take a step back to

00:03:48let other teams succeed yeah that's a great this is this is exactly this is exactly what he's talking

00:03:56i wasn't crying i was just we have to make no then you have the sec people saying oh we

00:04:02we sat a bunch

00:04:03of guys in the bowls oh i'm not making excuses don't really mean anything for us i'm just saying

00:04:08absolute dominance this is all the sec has that's it this is their whole identity baseball maybe

00:04:15but but but you have great food but listen listen you have diego you have diego pavia last year

00:04:22talking so much crap on the big 10 on a podcast and then he goes and gets his i don't

00:04:28claim him by

00:04:29the way yeah but whooped in in the bowl it's like you you don't want to play in the big

00:04:3510 you don't

00:04:35want to play against big 10 you think sec week to week i get it sec top to bottom very

00:04:40good

00:04:41conference but when it comes down to head to head big 10 sec big 10 is clearing that yeah it's

00:04:48like that the last three years that's just the facts you can't argue with the facts on paper i mean

00:04:53even down to ohio state uh beating texas to start last season that's going to be an excellent proxy war

00:05:00that we have again at the beginning of this season week two in austin going to be unreal

00:05:04my question would be how does the sec respond uh because i agree like objectively when in the

00:05:13postseason the big 10 has been better but the sec had gotten a bit fat and comfortable right like

00:05:19obviously just look at their fans and all the hypothetical arguments they constantly try to

00:05:23make and they're like we hold these truths to be obvious well they're not the big 10 is better than

00:05:26you and what are you going to do to prove uh that you can fight back if question in the

00:05:33room which sec team

00:05:35is most well suited to to garner a point back beat the baddies out of the midwest and bring college

00:05:42football back to the south you know going into every year it's texas texas texas arch manning you know

00:05:50but year after year you know and if they start out with a win against ohio state then i think

00:05:56they

00:05:56could have a very good chance of of taking a long run in the playoff and in the postseason then

00:06:01you

00:06:01have georgia who every year you know it doesn't matter you know the player like kirby smart leading

00:06:07that group you're going to be successful and i'd love to see someone in the sec pick up the slack

00:06:12you

00:06:13know where where is georgia's playmakers this year they just don't they don't have those stockton

00:06:17he's they don't have like the guys no they don't have the guys so so georgia has one of the

00:06:25more odd

00:06:27analytical profiles they ever find in last year in that from both offensive and defensive

00:06:33efficiency metrics they were elite right very good at like staying on schedule offensively

00:06:39very good defensively and forcing you to play underneath and put long drives together but on

00:06:43both sides of the ball no explosivity whatsoever like they don't get sacks they don't get tiffles

00:06:48offensively they don't get big plays so yeah like it's so clear what georgia has to do this season

00:06:54in order to get back to national championship good and that's just to find that that explosivity again

00:07:00and disrupt things and and dictate again you got a question for the lsu people in the room yeah are

00:07:05you

00:07:05buying the hype back to back uh number one transfer classes lane kiffin i mean could they be that team

00:07:13i feel like as long as our defense takes the step up it needs yes i feel like our offense

00:07:17is definitely

00:07:18there all of the prospects are there he's worked so hard building that roster we've put a ton of money

00:07:24into it um so yeah i think offensively we're gonna we're gonna be explosive i just need to see if

00:07:30our

00:07:30defense can take that step forward from last year i i think the defense is gonna be pretty damn good

00:07:34for lsu i think so as well but again that was our weakest focal point over the last yeah season

00:07:40so

00:07:40no i i agree uh the dc blake baker's pretty good i've heard some funny rumors of maybe him and

00:07:45kiffin

00:07:45not uh you know maybe not the the best of friends which you don't have to be the 85 bears

00:07:50coaches off of the field right very famously uh who was uh but i mean buddy ryan's at dc mike

00:07:57dick is

00:07:57that coach and very famously they did not like each other at all they won a championship but yeah i

00:08:02mean

00:08:03i think for lsu it just comes down to sam levitt's health he's coming off a liz frank foot injury

00:08:08those things tend to linger suck when i was down there last week i was asking around and of course

00:08:13no one's going to say he doesn't look good but everyone was gassing him up saying he looked really

00:08:17healthy and has looked really inside the building they were what about what's the did you get a

00:08:22temperature of the common man boots on the ground where they're at in the kiffin era so it feels like

00:08:27everyone is feeling really good um i was walking to through the practice facility and all the guys

00:08:33were working out i mean you had young boy just blaring all the vibes were there uh the new weight

00:08:39room

00:08:40is just about done so you know they're right now in the practice facility with all the old weights but

00:08:44um they they seemed ready they seemed they looked really healthy really good now uh chief so

00:08:52big ten sec men us men who compete in conferences with our peers and and and you know teams that

00:09:02we

00:09:02have these storied rivalries against uh but you're a notre dame fan correct so you're just dancing out

00:09:07here all by your lonesome you got your big nbc tv deal you got your most expensive jersey patch ever

00:09:14you got your easy schedule you got cj carr coming back are you scared of kurt signetti

00:09:21i i think signetti is the best coach in america so i think at the end we're going to have

00:09:26a state

00:09:26championship between notre dame and indiana and then you get the national championship if you win

00:09:31that but no this is notre dame's year the schedule i i i always defend the schedule they normally have

00:09:37tougher schedule see that's what i don't like if people are saying that this is always like that for

00:09:40notre dame it's not it's not it's not this year it is yeah and i think part of that is

00:09:45usc tuck tail

00:09:46and and ran away because if you had usc who's supposed to have a better team than they've had

00:09:53the last few years you add that to the back half of the schedule suddenly it's miami it's smu look

00:09:59at

00:09:59that man it's byu and if you had usc in there you're looking like a pretty strong schedule you can

00:10:04stack up against anybody as it stands right now i mean they're favored in every single game

00:10:10they're probably going to be a double digit favorite in most games uh but yeah the path

00:10:15the path is there this should be an undefeated season for notre dame i mean y'all are going to

00:10:20the playoff like you might as well you might as well crown them congratulations on the playoff

00:10:24appearance it'll be that's not the goal we don't play for playoffs we don't play for conference

00:10:28championships you guys can no y'all don't play if you don't know we don't we don't play for we

00:10:32don't hang other y'all don't play this is the misnomer this is the misnomer where it's like

00:10:38oh notre dame with their nbc contract they would make more money in the big 10 as a share of

00:10:42the

00:10:42big 10 they'd make more money they stand for something they stand for tradition college football

00:10:47is falling apart at the seams it's the wild west notre dame is the guiding light for all of

00:10:51college football being like we've been doing it one way for 150 years we're going to keep doing it

00:10:56that's notre dame flat flying the flag for what's right in america can you even see the sun

00:11:01i was just about to say it's reflected off of that golden dome damn so far up here oh and

00:11:09we go this is uh indiana's schedule listen we got indiana you north texas howard western kentucky

00:11:16what are we talking i don't want to hear anyone talk about notre dame schedule hey hey purdue

00:11:21ohio state michigan back to back to back nebraska hey man i don't know it was a 1996 i've never

00:11:28i've

00:11:31last last two years my last year it was pretty easy schedules like that pretty easy schedule i've

00:11:38never said i've never said anything about our schedules this is what we are given signetti

00:11:44very clearly does not care about challenging himself out out of conference no he is they

00:11:49have firmly firmly played like even last year playing a bowl division team out of maybe maybe

00:11:54signetti's almost right because remember last year like they didn't look great the first couple of

00:12:00weeks like there were there were some rust some some wobbles and then obviously they they ended up

00:12:05doing what they did this though this in the big 10 if they like if they go to that that's

00:12:11a great

00:12:11season like this is a tough schedule once you hit big 10 but i'm not giving you nebraska

00:12:16but ohio state at michigan and then usc and then at washington like those are those are four

00:12:22really like usc's a great team at washington will be tough usc's a great team okay now you're not

00:12:28usc's gonna go eight and four like they always do well this is the year though when people are

00:12:32saying that usc could be great they need always say that they need always say that now here's the

00:12:39texas schedule and of course texas may be the biggest threat out of the sec to win the national

00:12:45championship uh lsu this is tough i mean credit credit to them for scheduling ohio state notre

00:12:52dame did that a few years ago too um but like i i do think some of the sec stuff

00:12:57is just branding

00:12:58at this point we like like florida's not good mississippi state's not good missouri's missouri's

00:13:04okay no oklahoma's great if they're playing at florida i feel like things would be a little

00:13:09different yeah no i mean look you're like but look you have oklahoma and ole miss both playoff teams

00:13:14on there tennessee's been good in this modern era even though they have some question marks coming

00:13:19this season they have a lot of young guys though that their ceiling's super high so a and m another

00:13:24playoff team last i mean that's three playoff teams that's four on the schedule right there

00:13:28when you lump in ohio state and you're going to lsu at the end of the season which like lsu

00:13:34could be

00:13:34a disaster at that point or they could be a actual national championship but as we've seen the sec

00:13:40in the playoff they just get in because they're part of the sec like notre dame is better than a

00:13:46lot

00:13:46of those teams that you didn't get in last year and they get stomped on yeah and then the sec

00:13:49shows

00:13:50up to the big ten and they get smoked well you lost a and m last year okay who who

00:13:55did it was

00:13:56it was week one and it was too hot i don't know what to tell you it's week one and

00:14:00it's too hot

00:14:01that was miami it was too hot let's see what miami does up in october in notre dame

00:14:05i like that i like that a lot who you know about the heat midwest yeah which coach megan is

00:14:11is best

00:14:11suited to firing back at sig here because sig may be the best trash talker we've gotten sports at this

00:14:16he is i mean he's conor mcgregor i would yeah i would love to say it would be lane but

00:14:21since he's

00:14:21taken the social media break and kind of reeled it back in a little bit you know like i feel

00:14:27right now he's he's taking a step back on the talk and i feel like he's working on action which

00:14:34someone that needs to see that action i i enjoy can i say something about lane yeah brandon walker

00:14:40doing his top tens or whatever he says he's the best coach in america he's never won a conference

00:14:44championship anywhere he's never won anything unless he was tied to saving well winning he's a

00:14:49very good coach but like if lane kiffin is flying the flag he's one of the best offensive minds like

00:14:54out there let's see him win something i i would say the winning that he did at ole miss in

00:15:00the context of

00:15:01that school yeah that is pretty impressive but to your point he doesn't have the the the championships

00:15:06i mean fau he did but whatever like that's the lower level right but if you're gonna be if brandon

00:15:10walker the number one college football analyst in america yeah call him the best coach in the country

00:15:16other than signetti i think he has to have some he's got to have some pelts on the wall

00:15:20but who can talk like what can you say if you're an sec coach well i mean lane doesn't normally

00:15:25care

00:15:26he would just fire off but he's but he's in a different era avenue could an sec coach take to

00:15:30clap back at signet right now nothing we have to wait until this season and and and just prove it

00:15:34on the field which is why i am really enjoying lane god i can't wait for football man

00:16:36finding out they missed the sec championship game so it's fine no big deal i uh it does bad

00:16:42aj only guys like us could know but like it does bum me out that lsu and florida aren't playing

00:16:48every year anymore it does it's like a rivalry that nobody in the country cared about but if

00:16:52you were a gator a tiger it is something you look forward to every single year but that's football

00:16:572026 real quick sec or big 10 are you you're joking right now who's better so sec will always be

00:17:05better at every sport i'm sorry they win everything it's like big 10 what about the last three football

00:17:10championships well i mean the sec won like what 10 out of 11 or whatever it was well now everybody

00:17:15can pay players so now it's oh that's always the big 10s well as i call them the little 11s

00:17:23because they can't count they're the big 10 but they don't have 10 teams it doesn't make any

00:17:26sense yeah we're up to 18 now right yeah exactly let's be the big 10 guys with 25 teams it's

00:17:32brand big 18 i don't know doesn't have a ring doesn't fit the little logo the little logo they

00:17:38have it doesn't fit problematic google search perhaps as well all right uh let's get into baseball

00:17:48trip recently uh but trade deadline coming up this monday what is what do you think by monday night

00:17:56what's going to be the biggest storyline the biggest move that we're breaking down well it's

00:18:01going to be scoogle where he ends up the tigers aren't making the playoffs this year their recent

00:18:05skid has made it that way scoogle's last start you know they they're up six nothing they lost uh

00:18:10or something like that i don't know they lost seven nothing oh seven nothing yeah there you go

00:18:16yeah they should have won they had to win they didn't uh i think that they're at the point now

00:18:21where they're just trying to mitigate the bad press they're going to get when they do trade them

00:18:25so they're trying to wait as long as they can but he's scheduled to pitch monday so he needs to

00:18:30be

00:18:30traded this weekend probably it'll probably happen saturday night about three in the morning

00:18:34when everyone's asleep so no one knows about it until the morning but uh where he goes what did they

00:18:39give up for him and then what his next move is because i'm really hoping he goes to the brewers

00:18:43rays just to stop everyone saying oh the dodgers get everybody i really hope he goes there and i

00:18:48hope those teams do well in the postseason so because there's a cba coming up and if the brewers

00:18:53the rays win the world series it kind of puts the owners in a bad spot yep yeah that's a

00:18:58but he is going to the dodgers right i don't know you know i i don't know the thing i

00:19:05they like him yes but they have glass now coming they have snell they have yamamoto sazaki's been really

00:19:10good if you haven't watched him pitch he's been really good they haven't lost an eric lauer start

00:19:13they have robleski who was an all-star this year i mean the dodgers are loaded one place the dodgers

00:19:18are loaded is in the starting rotation uh what about the cubbies yeah that i think chicago should be

00:19:24kind of the epicenter of this trade deadline you got two teams looking like they're going to make

00:19:28the playoffs what do you think the cubs do and then what do you think jerry signs off on for

00:19:33white socks uh well the cubs are going to do something i don't think it'll be a huge move

00:19:38just because they don't do the jed hoyer in the front office is so risk averse for oh we don't

00:19:43want to give up any prospect because a prospect is goal right when you could have a chance to win

00:19:47world series plus i always say this and i think this hurts the cubs they won not long ago they

00:21:38trigger but i hope it's one of the other two you know i'd love to see the rays the american

00:21:42is down and the rays could go team him with they have other they have mcclanahan they have nick

00:21:47martinez they have rasmussen in the starting rotation you know they have camonero they have

00:21:52yanni diaz they have some dudes that can swing it it would be fun plus i'm from florida so i

00:21:57want the florida teams to be good yeah what about your white socks though because this has been kind of

00:22:01a

00:22:01dream season out of nowhere and they should win the division the american league stinks

00:22:08they have all the prospect capital is this a year where where jerry and and the white socks will go

00:22:15for it and try to add a few pieces that they need to get them they i mean they could

00:22:19go to the world

00:22:20series if they make a couple good moves here so do you think they'll be aggressive or is it just

00:22:24like

00:22:25house money because no one saw this coming well i hope they're aggressive listen i'm a white socks fan

00:22:30i root for the white socks i want them to do well so i hope they go for it three

00:22:33losing 100 games and now you have a chance because again the american league is down again if you watch

00:22:39the white socks play you're you're not blown away do they have some good pieces yes but you're not

00:22:42blown away by their team one through 26 but for me the the needs for them is a starting pitcher

00:22:47sean burke has been incredible the last month or so so he's been great but you need another starting

00:22:52pitcher and you need a catcher kyle teal when's he coming back is he coming back i don't know uh

00:22:58but they

00:22:58need a catcher that a right-handed hitting catcher so when teal comes back they have an option

00:23:02uh and then a reliever would be third for me but that's kind of like every other team out there

00:23:06oh we want to start or oh we need a position player oh yeah and we want to relieve right

00:23:10now

00:23:10the white socks have the prospect capital but this is the first time for chris gets to be in this

00:23:15situation it's easy when you're the bottom and you're selling and you can get good prospects back

00:23:19but now you're trying to put the finishing touches on a winning team and i think that's the

00:23:23hardest so it's going to be a good test for chris gets to see what he pulls off but obviously

00:23:27look i hope

00:23:27they do it uh what what about when when a guy joins mid-season like this like the white socks

00:23:34right they seem to be winning like as a team you know the culture is great right now aj how

00:23:39quickly

00:23:39can you fold these guys in and like do you ever run the risk of maybe losing some of the

00:23:47magic that

00:23:48kind of has led you to a season like the white socks are having well i don't think mike vassal

00:23:52and

00:23:52his wand is going anywhere he had tommy john so i think he's going to stay there with his cape

00:23:55and

00:23:56his wizard hat and all that stuff so he's not going anywhere but anytime you pick somebody up

00:24:00somebody has to go away yeah see sometimes you have to be real careful in who that person is going

00:24:05away they might not be the greatest guy as far as stats or what they provide on the field but

00:24:11sometimes it's more important that what they bring into that room so you have to be careful with that

00:24:16but if the guy you bring in performs like a star then you'll overlook a lot of things if he's

00:24:21helping

00:24:21you win games it doesn't matter what they're like they can be the biggest ass in the world

00:24:25yeah but if they're helping you win games you don't care as a player you're like this dude helps

00:24:29us win we'll talk trash about him once he leaves but for these next three months he's a guy i

00:24:34hate

00:24:34this segue but speaking of trash cans i'm an astros fan so uh their one game back from the rangers

00:24:41obviously yordan is just an absolute monster uh in the hunt for that triple crown right now uh what do

00:24:48you see shaking out the rest of the season for the stroves well because the rest of the american

00:24:53league east is dog whatever expletive you want to use after it uh they have a chance because

00:24:59yordan alvarez if he stays healthy he's going to win the triple crown i don't see another hitter that

00:25:03is going to catch him as long as teams keep pitching to him which i can't figure out why

00:25:07they are pitching to him but i think the astros need a starter just again a starter a bat right

00:25:12reliever i mean it's the same thing for every team uh yordan right now is the best hitter going in

00:25:16the

00:25:17game he hits left he's hits right he's hits for power hits for average driver runners in

00:25:21everything you throw him this dude can hit he matches uh i think they have a chance as much as

00:25:26i thought they were dead a few weeks ago the mariners everyone's waiting for the mariners

00:25:29the mariners the mariners the mariners can't score runs the last like six weeks they're barely averaging

00:25:34three runs a game their pitching is still incredible but at some point guess what you

00:25:37got to score a run and that's why the astros are in i think they're a half game back right

00:25:41now

00:25:41and they're listen you can flip you can literally if there was a three-sided coin you could throw it

00:25:45up in

00:25:46the air a hundred times and 33 and a third it would land on each one and that's how you

00:25:50could pick

00:25:50who's going to win this division aj i want to ask you about a personal trip that you took uh

00:26:39that i've been able to do right but then to go as someone that was raised catholic i did the

00:26:43cross every time i went up to bat uh and then to go meet pope leo who is a white

00:26:50one of the coolest experiences ever because when you walk up to the pope and you're in you're in

00:26:54saint peter's and you can see all the people that were there watching and you introduce yourself and

00:26:58he says you don't have to introduce yourself i know exactly who you are that's the one thing that

00:27:07most people i mean there's a million there's a bunch of people that go up there and they give

00:27:10them gifts and then and he's just like yeah go ahead next person next person but then when i

00:27:14walked up there he gave a he gave me and my family a lot of time so that was really

00:27:17awesome and then

00:27:18when i gave him the ball the ball was the last out of game one 2005 uh it's been on

00:27:23my wall for 20

00:27:23years just sitting there uh it has the hologram on it so people can say it's fake it's not fake

00:27:28the the authentication on it and it was when they showed him on fox that was the last that was

00:27:34the

00:27:34batter that they showed him in the ninth inning of game one no so just kind of all right adam

00:27:40struck out i caught the ball and they had they cut to the pope and then i was like well

00:27:44gonna meet him i got to give him something cool and this is the one thing i can give him

00:27:47mean a lot to him and he was he was genuinely excited and then he told me he was at

00:27:52game two

00:27:52too and i said i'm sorry i don't have scott with that next walk off home run ball i can't

00:27:56that oh man aj yeah that's incredible man that's an all-time good story speaking of good memories

00:28:02ozzy guin getting his number retired next month uh what are what are what are your some of your

00:28:09memories on your old manager there and his impact on that 05 team well i can't give too much away

00:28:52this one like i'm in all these clips when he kicks the mask i'm the one who caught the the

00:29:03and i's family are very good friends to this day uh i get to give a speech i get to
