00:00It's the newest venue on the oldest street in Leeds.
00:05Mood is a café, bar, restaurant and event space situated on the ground floor of the
00:10Grade II listed first white cloth hall on Kirkgate. Built in 1711 for the sale of white undyed
00:16cloth, the building spent more than 20 years on Historic England's Heritage at Risk register
00:21before a major restoration by Rush Bond returned it to use.
00:25It's been created by husband and wife founders Hayley and Will Moody, the team behind Buzz
00:31Club Tattoo and Hair and Beauty brand Self. Hayley has been reflecting on completing a family-led
00:37vision for one of the city's most important historic buildings.
00:41We started back in 2019 when we opened Buzz and that was in Hyde Park so it was fab for
00:47all the students and it was where me and Will lived when we were at uni and then it was
00:53Covid
00:54when we decided to scale up in 2020. It developed from two of our tattoo artists from our other
01:00business Buzz Club and walking past seeing the space thinking it would be an insane tattoo studio.
01:07Then we were sort of like a bit big but just not possible and then a year later it was
01:13still on
01:13the market so we decided to come have a look. Upstairs was perfect for Buzz Club and our other business
01:19ourselves a beauty studio and then thought downstairs would be ideal for this all day
01:26come and go eatery. We love Leeds we feel as though now we're maybe a little bit older we don't
01:31tend to
01:32go out as much to bars where we can't chat with friends we don't have much time it's nice when
01:38you
01:38actually go somewhere and have a nice drink have some food but yeah you can speak to your friends easily.
01:43So the moods sort of came from that thinking it would be nice to have a bar where you can
01:48sit down
01:49chat and just yeah just have a good time and not necessarily me and push on to the early morning
01:57and then along with that where big foodies me and my husband we thought it would be best to use
02:05this
02:05building all hours of the day. Moods brings coffee, patisserie, drinks and events together under one historic
02:12roof supporting local suppliers with restaurant and private dining plan from the autumn led by award
02:18winning head chef Craig Rogan. There was some things that we had to put in there wasn't air ducting or
02:24heating or electric um sunlighting but not much so there was a lot of back and forward with listed
02:31buildings to make sure we're putting the things in the right place and that they're happy with how
02:35it looks and that we are continuing we are using the space the best way that you can and not
02:41taken
02:41away from anything especially all the hard work that Rush Bond had done to this space. We've still
02:46got a few things left to do um we've got a mosaic going down at the moment a welcome mosaic
02:52um yeah
02:54there's some little little touches to do but we're going to we're going to be there for Friday it's going
02:58to be sending
