00:01Both men on Saturday July 18th attended the NT's Thailand Grand Festival and it's there
00:10that the Labor MP has allegedly assaulted the King's representative in the Northern
00:16Territory, David Connolly.
00:18On that following Tuesday, NT police detectives emerged from the administrator's office after
00:27spending about three hours there and it was on that day that these allegations came to
00:31light.
00:32At the time, Mr Gosling described the allegations as ridiculous and he's repeatedly denied any
00:41wrongdoing today after having been arrested at his home in Darwin this morning.
00:47When he emerged from custody, he didn't speak on the nature of the allegations themselves
00:53but his lawyer did address the manner of his arrest.
00:58It's particularly concerning that the police resorted to the power of arrest when they could
01:05have dealt with this matter by way of summons or notice to appear.
01:09There's a real concern that there's a degree of politicisation in relation to how this matter

01:31Now that's a specific charge within the NT's criminal code that carries a maximum term of
01:37imprisonment of 14 years.
01:39NT police, first of all, have responded to those claims of politicisation, saying that
01:45they are without foundation.
01:48And since then, federal coalition figures, Jacinta Price and James Patterson, have called
01:54for the Prime Minister to stand Mr Gosling down from his roles in the Labor caucus.
02:01The Prime Minister has, of course, declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal issues.
02:06So, too, has the administrator, David Connolly himself, saying those allegations are now
02:13matters for police.
02:15Mr Gosling has since released a statement via social media where he's thanked his supporters
02:24and described the events of this morning as strange.
02:28Mr Gosling has since released a blast of this year.
