00:00U.S. President Donald Trump has again called on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates,
00:05saying the United States should have the world's lowest borrowing costs.
00:09He also accused some members of the Federal Reserve Board of letting politics influence their decisions.
00:18While backing his choice Kevin Walsh to lead the central bank,
00:23Trump questioned the motives of other members of the Fed's Board of Governors
00:27for not wanting to ease monetary policy.
00:30And Kevin's fantastic, but he's got a board.
00:33And the board members are very political, I would say.
00:38So, you know, we fight our way through the rates because we're doing so well.
00:42But, no, he's got a board.
00:45He wants to do the right thing. I know what he wants to do.
00:48But you need the consent of some people that have perhaps bad intentions.
00:54Rates should be lowered.
00:55This country could be at 8%, 9%, 10%, 12% GDP.
01:01That's what it should be.
01:03We have other countries that are paying less interest rates, and it shouldn't be that way.
01:08We should have the lowest interest rate in the world.
01:10I could take the money that these countries are making, put it into our portfolio,
01:15and we should have the lowest interest rate in the world, like it used to be 30 years ago.
01:21We always made the lowest rate.
01:22Trump's comments came just two days before the Federal Reserve announces its latest interest rate decision.
01:30Markets widely expect policymakers to leave rates unchanged.
01:34But several Fed officials have recently warned that inflation remains too high,
01:39suggesting interest rates may need to stay higher for longer or even rise further.
