00:00Remember two years ago when Hasbro was boasting about how hard it's going on video games and how great they
00:06were going to be?
00:07Well, life comes at you fast.
00:08The company has recorded a $56 million non-cash impairment in its second quarter finances.
00:16Why? Because it cancelled a bunch of games due for release in 2028 and beyond.
00:22An impairment loss isn't a straightforward loss.
00:24Hasbro hasn't suddenly got $56 million less in its bank account.
00:30Rather, the value of its assets has gone down by that much.
00:34Which still isn't ideal, if you're a corporation out to make money.
00:39But Hasbro's putting on a brave face.
00:42CEO Chris Cox says it's all about focusing our digital investment.
00:47After all, says Cox, Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the biggest and most awarded role-playing games of the
00:53last decade.
00:54Surely Hasbro can just do that again?
00:56If it can, it'll have to do it without Larian, which is off making Divinity.
01:01Good luck with that one, Hasbro.
