00:02We all know by now, I'm a beauty nerd.
00:05And while I live for makeup and skincare, I'll be honest, nail art is not my forte.
00:10Last fall, I got the chance to get a Japanese acrylic manicure inspired by Sailor Moon,
00:14which totally opened my eyes to how fun nail art can be.
00:18So, when I got the opportunity to visit C&D Polish's Fashion Week Nail Design Lab, I totally flipped.
00:24C&D Polish is the brand behind some of the weirdest Fashion Week nail trends,
00:29like fur nails and dog-inspired sets. It's crazy, guys.
00:33I'm going to get to tour the nail design lab and even get to make a few designs myself.
00:38Nail novice? No more.
00:42So, first off, I met up with Jan Arnold, co-founder to C&D, to walk me through some of
00:47the nail looks.
00:48We are so excited about the season, and we really saw some interesting things emerge for the nails,
00:54like framework, fringe, and even geodes.
00:58I love that, and it's like such three-dimensional texture, too.
01:01Exactly.
01:05For Libertine, fall 2017, his inspiration was the nomadic gypsy, kind of this Romanian gypsy
01:14that knows how to upcycle and recycle, but then gilded and embellished.
01:19Another source of inspiration was Uzbekistani village women who do these amazing embroidered
01:28Susanis.
01:30My favorite look was the shag carpet nail. It is the coolest nail look I've ever seen.
01:35On a base of acrylics, they'll put a paste on the nail and use a metallic tool to create
01:41divots in the nail where they're going to place the thread.
01:44Then, they'll cut little pieces of thread and knot them at the end, and using tweezers,
01:48they'll put little bits of thread in each of the divots they created.
01:51Once all the thread is placed, they'll put a little bit of gel on it to secure it all,
01:56and they'll finish it off with a little bit of brushing to get it all fluffy.
01:59The shag carpet nail is born.
02:02It's artistry at its very finest collaboration.
02:06Now, I know that those nails aren't necessarily DIY-friendly,
02:08so I met up with Miss Pop, who's an amazing nail artist,
02:11to show me how to do the nails from Jeremy Scott's Autumn Winter 2017 show.
02:15The show was all about this iconography.
02:18There was Elvis, Marilyn Monroe.
02:20There was Michael Jackson.
02:21It was all these stars.
02:22So we felt like we had to bring that sort of show-based glitz to the nail
02:26and do this fabulous DIY that you can totally get these nails at home.
02:29I'll be honest, I was a little scared at first
02:31because the nails were beautiful and red with these amazing stars on it,
02:35and I thought that there's no way that I could do those myself.
02:38But it turns out, it's really easy.
02:41All you have to do is get a piece of blue painter's tape,
02:44cut a teeny tiny triangle on it, slap it on your nail, and paint gold over it.
02:48It's really that easy.
02:52I feel like I'm like...
02:53You're making me so proud.
02:55So scared.
02:56You were so scared.
02:57Yes.
02:58I think yours is technically better than mine.
03:00Once we were done creating our starry nails,
03:03Miss Pop created a nail look just for me.
03:05We incorporated two of my favorite trends,
03:08negative space and blue,
03:09and created this awesome blue spacey manicure.
03:12For those of you who don't know,
03:14negative space is basically a technique of using different tapes and tools
03:19to create spaces on the nail.
03:25So instead of going with a full-on solid color,
03:28you have a few different colors that create little geometric shapes.
03:31It's really awesome.
03:36Any artist tape at the craft store, any painter's tape,
03:38I wouldn't get any bigger than an eighth of an inch,
03:41depending on your nail bed.
03:42I think that's probably the biggest.
03:43This is one-sixteenth of an inch.
03:48So I'm going one hand at a time to make sure that the timing of my tape pull is right.
03:53So I'm doing one coat of each,
03:55and then I'll go back and do my second coat,
03:57and then I'll lift.
04:09Now I'm just going to finish this top coat and you'll be ready to go.
04:13The look is so spring and so you.
04:15I love it.
04:16I'm so glad you like it.

04:23It was such an amazing experience seeing all the looks that C&D puts together for Fashion Week and beyond.
04:29Not only was I inspired by all the different nail trends that I saw,
04:32but I learned a technique that I can actually do by myself.
04:35And who doesn't love that?
04:36Three things that I took away from all of this was that texture,
04:41powdery finishes, and 3D effects are super in for fall.
