00:00Have you ever wondered what your skin looks like up close? A quick survey of the team shows we all
00:04have completely different sun habits and skincare approaches. We went to Dermatology Clinic South
00:08London. The advanced Vizia machine uses imaging technology to analyse the skin's surface and
00:14deeper layers. It then produces UV and brown spot photos highlighting where your skin might be sun
00:19damaged and offers insight into how to take care of it going forward. In the blue UV photos, darker
00:24spots are signs of sun damage. The brown spot photos highlight hyperpigmentation under the
00:28skin's surface. I was first as Refinery29's beauty director. I apply sunscreen every morning so I
00:34was surprised to see so much sun damage on my forehead sustained in my younger years when I
00:38used to avoid sun protection and taking good care of my cheeks though. Next up, senior writer Tanyelle
00:44who admits she doesn't take the British sun seriously. Her cheeks had less sun damage than
00:48her forehead but she was shocked to hear that she should be applying sunscreen to her eyelids and
00:52under eyes. Skin therapist Katie told Tanyelle that she needs to apply more sunscreen to her forehead
00:57and around her nose. Contributing writer Vinice was up next. She shared that because of her skin tone,
01:02she was never really taught the importance of sun protection. Now she knows that everyone needs it
01:06regardless of skin colour and has worn sunscreen ever since. The white spots on her cheeks are signs
01:11of sun damage that aren't obvious to the eye but are faintly visible in the scan. Katie noted that this
01:16was a good result. Lifestyle director Susan has very fair skin that burns easily so she wears SPF 50 and
01:22avoids
01:23sitting in the sun though she hasn't always escaped sunburn. The darker areas on Susan's nose are sun
01:29damage but overall this is another good outcome. Last, Kelly, a reformed tanner. In her early 20s Kelly
01:35used tanning beds. The results scared her a little. There's deeper pigmentation on the top of her
01:40forehead and freckling down the nose and centre face area so she was advised to be mindful about wearing
01:45sunscreen. A visier skin scan at Self London will set you back £100 but it's seriously eye-opening.
01:51Ours was a real reminder of why sunscreen is so important. Sun damage can creep up on you
01:55and it's one of the biggest risk factors for skin cancer. Sun safe habits really do matter.
