00:08For me, going into the medical pedicure and why I hadn't really done anything about the
00:12toe fungus was because I was embarrassed. I don't want someone to have to touch my
00:16feet. I'm a little concerned, but also I feel like I'm in the right place.
00:26I am Mary and today I will be getting a medical pedicure. My feet concerns today are definitely
00:34I don't want the toenail fungus to spread, so I'm here to address something about it and finally
00:41get some relief and some ease and help it go away. One of my concerns is also my two annoying
00:47plantarist warts that are hanging out on the bottom of my left foot. The toenail fungus and
00:52the warts have definitely impacted my confidence. I have some sandals that are really cute, some cute
00:57little like peep toe shoes and they're just hanging out in my closet and they're like when do we get
01:01to come out? I'm on my feet all day. It's definitely given me some discomfort that I've tried to ignore
01:09but can't ignore it anymore medical pedicure time.
01:14I'm Dr. Rilling and I'm the podiatrist here at Los Feliz Foot and Ankle. A medical pedicure is a
01:21specialized pedicure that combines elements of both cosmetic and medical foot care. We're able to treat
01:29certain foot conditions such as fungal toenails, corns and calluses, dry flaky skin, and cracked heels.
01:37We have three different packages here. Our healthy feet package which is for regular maintenance that
01:43is $85. Then we have our medical pedicure which is $145 for 60 minutes and then we have the deluxe

02:00Mary nice to meet you Mary. What brings you into the office today? I've had some annoying toenail fungus
02:07and I just can't seem to get rid of it. I also have two planters warts that are like almost
02:12gone but
02:13I'm on my feet all day so. All right let's take a look here you can see some of the
02:19nails a little bit
02:20of thickness some discoloration here on the hallux or the great toe right here and then then you had
02:26mentioned plantar warts. There they are. It's time for an eviction notice for them. They need to go.
02:32They've overstayed their welcome. They have. So we have laser therapy. Laser therapy is great because
02:38it doesn't require any downtime and then in terms of the fungal toenails what I would recommend for
02:46that would be prescription grade strength. This will take months even with the prescription grade stuff.
02:51So these are all kind of all the tools that we have in the toolbox. Might be a little chilly.
02:58I don't think I'm very ticklish. I think it will be. Usually the nail technician would start with addressing
03:03the nails first. She has various instruments and tools that she uses such as a nail nipper, various
03:10spatulas, a blunt pick almost like a dental pick. Then she would trim the affected toenails. One of the
03:18instruments that we also use would be our electronic nail file.
03:25This particular nail file has a diamond cut burr. It is strong enough to go through thickened nails
03:30but soft enough to go on skin. Next she would then address the dry skin with files and any of
03:39the dry
03:39flaky skin would then be removed and we have various foams and creams to replenish the moisture
03:47lost in case of cracked heels. The next portion would be the massage. One of the key benefits
03:53of a massage would be to increase blood flow and oxygen in the calf muscle, in the heel, in the
03:59arch,
04:00in the top part of the foot and also the toes. One of the add-ons that we offer is
04:07anti-fungal nail polish.
04:09Even regular nail polish can trap the moisture and could potentially make the fungus worse. So here
04:15at our medical spa we offer nail polish so that you can have it aesthetically pleasing but also know
04:21that the fungus is not getting worse. I'm really glad we got to do the add-on and take care
04:31of Mary's
04:32plantar warts. The plantar warts would be addressed by me in a full appointment and that would be the
04:39time where I would address it with laser therapy. Okay. So the laser uses heat to help cauterize some
04:46of that irregular tissue that's very vascular and then also it re-stimulates the immune response so
04:52it helps attack this unwanted tissue. So this is generally a painless procedure. There will be
05:00short bursts of heat. It would be normal to see little plumes of smoke. It's not meant to be
05:06excruciating and a patient is never going to feel severe pain when it comes to this treatment.
05:10We can expect to see a darkened tissue right in the location of where the plantar wart is.
05:25There's really not a whole lot of aftercare which is what makes the laser so great. I'd recommend that
05:32the patient covers those wart lesions during the day and then remove those bandages so that
05:37some of the moisture can evaporate. Patients are recommended to return for follow-up and this could
05:45vary from three, four, five, six weeks. I feel amazing post-treatment. That was absolutely fantastic.
05:55It was very much a spa experience. Nothing was ever said to make me feel awkward or uncomfortable.
06:01I felt really important and cared for. So it was really exciting to then just hop into another room and
06:08just get some laser sizzle on those warts and then to see like plumes of smoke coming up from my
06:16feet.
06:16It didn't hurt at all. It was actually really fun and really cool.
06:21I would absolutely recommend a medical pedicure to anyone and everyone because of like the care
06:28going into it and how relaxed and comfortable and safe that I felt. And especially in LA and Southern
06:34California, it's always sandal season. So I suggest anyone to feel confident and also healthy and
06:40like good foot hygiene because you take your feet with you everywhere you go.
