00:00This is Kelly. She's Irish.
00:02This is Rambod. He's Persian.
00:05In 36 hours, they will get married in San Diego,
00:08where we'll see a bedazzled bridal table,
00:11dance with a wild Irishman,
00:12and watch a knife dance where Rum showers his sister with cash.
00:27There are a lot of regions in the world that are Catholic.
00:31There are a lot of regions in the world that are Muslim.
00:33But there is only one Persian culture,
00:36and there's only one Irish culture.
00:39We are more influenced by our culture than our religion.
00:44We used to have a saying, be a boss, date a boss, build an empire.
00:49I'm definitely a boss, and she's a boss,
00:51and we're building a beautiful empire, and I'm excited.
00:55The best part of bringing two cultures together
00:57is that you can bring the best of the two cultures
00:59and the things that are the most important to you,
01:01and you can combine them,
01:03and I think it makes the event not just richer but more unique.
01:10We love to dance. We love to dress up.
01:13So if you ever go to a Persian wedding,
01:15or you're invited to a Persian wedding,
01:17it's literally black tie.
01:18Yes, dress up.
01:19They just won't say black tie.
01:20If you show up in a sundress or in a polo shirt and slacks,
01:27no, no, no, no, no. It wouldn't work.
01:29I'm very proud of, you know, being Persian,
01:31and that culture is a dramatic influence on my life
01:35as far as who I am and, you know, where my heritage comes from.
01:41I think my family is going to love and be very excited
01:46about the Persian traditions that they're going to see,
01:49just as I was when I first saw them.
01:51The centerpiece of a Persian wedding is the Sofra Aqt.
01:56The word Sofra means spread, and Aqt means wedding.
02:00The Smeared Table of Wonders takes four hours to put together
02:04and is unlike anything you've ever seen.
02:07Every item on it stands for a different blessing,
02:10including a mirror for brightness and eternity,
02:15candles for energy and clarity,
02:18eggs and nuts for fertility and abundance,
02:21and heavenly fruits for a joyous future.
02:25And to balance out Rem's Parisian opulence
02:28is Kelly's Irish charm.
02:30The horseshoe is one of my favorite incorporations
02:33of the Irish culture.
02:35You have to hold the horseshoe upright, too.
02:37It has to be facing the shape of a U,
02:39because if it faces the other way,
02:41it also is bad luck that your luck will run out.
02:44Other Irish tokens are revealed on Kelly's outfit.
02:47There's an Irish tradition.
02:50It's a sixpence, which is like an old Irish penny
02:53before they convert it to the euro.
02:55And you're supposed to put it in your left shoe
02:58for good luck and good fortune.
03:04The clattering is a symbolism of love and loyalty.
03:10I will have a clatter pinned to my garter.
03:13It's so powerful because the saying behind it,
03:16which I actually have as a tattoo in Irish,
03:20is let friendship and love reign above all.
03:24And I think that just shows a lot of what Irish culture is.
03:44The couple takes a seat in front of the sofra,
03:47the bedazzled table.
03:53The table is a sweet welcome for this Persian-Irish crowd.
03:58The bride and groom sit, and there's a cloth held above their head.
04:02And different female family members and close friends
04:05will come and grind the sugar on top of the veil.
04:09And as the sugar flakes are coming down,
04:12they're supposed to sweeten their marriage and their life.
04:19The couple also lights a unity candle.
04:22While we are each individuals,
04:25together now we come and we create a stronger, more powerful force.
04:38The most sensual Persian tradition is the asa, or honey exchange.
04:43Honey symbolizes sustenance and also the fact that they will be bringing sweetness into each other's lives.
04:49Rambod, I would like you to take this asa on your little finger and share it with your bride, Kelly.
04:56Kelly, you do the same for Rambod.
05:02By the power vested in me, by the state of California,
05:05I now pronounce you husband and wife.
05:08You may kiss the bride.
05:17The sugar high from tying the knot fuels the raksacharu, a playful knife dance,
05:22which encourages the wedding party to make it rain.
05:26Usually the sister of the groom dances with the knife that the bride and the groom are going to cut
05:32their cake with.
05:41My mom always had a saying, celebrate everything.
05:44And not just your cultural stuff.
05:46Just celebrate life and celebrate happiness.
06:05Kelly and Rum will continue to build their empire through celebrating love, friendship,
06:09and with a new addition to their family.
06:12Speaking of growing our family...
06:15What?
06:16Wait, what?
06:18Everyone is already asking when we're going to have kids.
06:22And the answer is...
06:25Not yet.
06:28However, I do have a surprise for my husband.
06:32Meet the newest addition of our family.
06:36Wait, what?
06:38Get out!
06:45Congrats, Rem and Kelly.
06:46And welcome, Snoop.
06:50Go!
06:52Go!
06:54Go!
06:55Go!
