00:00this texas team it feels weird to talk about it because look they the defense has been phenomenal
00:06averaging what like 16 16 and a half points per game um headed into this game and they give up
00:1120 and it feels like oof now of course i think that's also because it's a it's 130 so what was
00:18it how 100 and how many yards for for trey mcbride on 12 catches 12 catches 134 and two touchdowns
00:26and you go okay that particular type of performance even though it felt like a lot of that well i mean
00:30it happened progressively throughout the game yeah but you go man okay was this defense poor and we've
00:36both felt like no i mean it felt like with the circumstances of the game you got up two scores
00:41early you know you allowed to yourself to have a lead the game script dictated the way it went and
00:45it was fine miko doesn't seem to have that mentality the number of times that we've heard him he's been
00:51really tough talking about the ideas of that they have things that they have they have to clear up
00:55which is a common refrain that he's had all year long but it feel it felt particularly honed in on
01:01the defense this time is he being is he being too hard on the defense right now uh i i think by design
01:06he's being uh too hard on the defense everybody knows how great this defense is it's great but i think
01:12what really irked him is there were some you know when they had control 17 to nothing all of a sudden
01:19there were some like sustained drives that and some of them didn't even end with points uh but
01:25but some sustained progress uh that that the cardinals were making yeah and i think that's
01:30what irked him it's like it's one thing if okay trey mcbrough hit a 50 yarder for a touchdown you know
01:36okay but there were some boom boom boom right on matriculating down the field which is what he likes
01:42on his offense uh and i think that that irked him so he can't be anything but happy with this team
01:48but he's going to make sure that they understand that that that's not something that you know can
01:53be a regular you know part of the deal yeah and i think it's very important to get that together now
01:58because lucky he was playing the cardinals because you could have been playing somebody else yeah and
02:04you might not be as easy to score 40 points right and you might be trailing yeah and all of a sudden
02:10they're eating up clock so i i think he's probably from my perspective being a little bit too hard
02:16but that's by design yeah and i think that uh sam warren does a fantastic job for the chronicle
02:21sometimes he'll break down some of the some of the like x's and o's of a game this week his breakdown
02:27was obviously trey mcbride and like kind of what are some of the things that happened that allowed
02:31him to have the two touchdown game day that he had and one of the things i know that he was talking
02:38about is like the physicality that is typically there that they use against tight ends was not there
02:42in the same way there's some other things that happened within this game that were not uh i guess
02:46up to the level and the standard that uh mico typically requires and i think you're right right
02:50you want to make sure that your standard is the standard the whole way across i thought it was
02:54very interesting for um the on the coach's show when domico was asked about it is it easier to get
03:01the team's attention after a loss or a win it's easier of course after a loss because everybody is
03:06kind of in the tank and is like oh now those mistakes really cost the team right when you win
03:12there's a sense of like okay you you can easily relax because you won the game and now oh well we won
03:20no these mistakes are they're all important like you still have to be on you still have to get it
03:25cleaned up so you know i'm going in and there's a fine balance as well also i'm going to uplift the
03:30guys and show them all the great things that they did because there are a ton of great reps
03:33that happened in this game to put us in position to win in such a such a great fashion but we also
03:39got to learn in every every battle like you have to learn loss or win there are takeaways key
03:45takeaways that you learn from so it prepares you for the next battle and that's where my mind always
03:50goes it's not about the last one but man is we want to keep moving forward we want to play
03:56ball into january like we can't have the mistakes that we're having and you mentioned you know he mentioned
04:02there like going into the next battle i i think he's talking about this next game specifically
04:07uh with brock bowers uh you know this is you know if you if you could say like what is there one area
04:13and and even if you're picking nits here of the defense that that kind of bugs you now for a while
04:19we were talking about maybe the run game but they seem to really be good against the run again
04:23it might be the tight end it might be the tight end position big dudes like that
04:27coming off a two touchdown 132 yards or whatever it was that uh mcbride had and then here comes
04:33brock bowers i think that specifically is what he's looking at because it's also you know jaylen
04:39petrie miles bryant you know whomever it is that that's going to draw the assignment that's got to
04:44be something that they fix right and uh again salute to sam warren because another thing that he mentioned
04:48when it came to uh some of the struggles guarding trey mcbride in this game was screens and screens did get
04:55a little bit and one of the things i noticed about that uh in an opportunity to turn this positive
05:00i feel like sheldon rankins i gotta give him more love and domico gave him a little love in you know
05:06in the coach's show i'll get that audio here in a second but i feel like sheldon rankins deserves a
05:10lot of love because he really is the the field general on the floor or on the on the on the field rather
05:17for that defensive line like he kind of keeps things in order and one of the things that i always see
05:21is he's got great recognition of screens he's the dude who is like all right well i see that screen
05:28i'm out there in fact there was a screen that was in this game and i want to say that it was i know
05:32which one i want to say it was henry toe toe that triggers and goes and gets the tackle but the second
05:36man to the ball is sheldon rankins because he recognizes it very quickly and he's out there in
05:41addition to that similarly with that recognition that read and react he's the dude that sees oh okay
05:46this quarterback is breaking contain my defensive end is up the field it's now incumbent upon me to run
05:51down the line to make sure that this quarterback can't just break free he's so good at that and i
05:56felt it when he wasn't on the field i think one of the really good trey mcbride screens was an
06:02instance where you did not have i think it was it was togei it was edwards rushing the passer from the
06:08middle in addition to your edges and it wasn't rankings and neither of them was able to feel it
06:14that okay this is this is a screen i need to get out here and help stop it and trey mcbride's able to
06:19and but you still that that's at the line of scrimmage and that's an incredible talent to have and it's
06:23really hard to do as a defensive lineman you're you know you you want to go you want to go at your
06:28guy to be able to feel like wait a minute he kind of let me go there you know he kind of let me uh
06:34have have my way so you have to read and react and get out to one of two one side or the other
06:38or or back or whatever that's really hard to to train yourself to do and have that in in the in the
06:45in the in the snap of a finger yeah to be able to do that but that's still at the line of scrimmage
06:50sure you know i'm talking about coverage of tight end right coverage of tight ends is going to be a
06:54big uh you know talking point for sure so i mean i think that this is this is part of domico for one
07:00this is the reason why the defense has gotten here i think this is this is the way that he does the
07:03standard is the standard particularly on this defense especially with the expectations that they
07:07have i think also i really like this like i at first i was like man he's really being harsh on him
07:13but you know you sit with and you go this is this is the super bowl expectations coming to four
07:18similarly with email doka on you know where he's he's in the post game and he one takes a shot at
07:25the rest but then he comes back around and you mentioned it off air even uh we were talking about
07:29kevin durant's off ball like help side defense was fantastic elite in this game versus the nuggets he
07:34got a number of blocks was like five blocks five what was email doka's uh should have been eight
07:39yeah like that is what you do when you're like hey man yeah what what the good is not good enough
07:44until we're until we're the place that we want to be where it's we're unassailable and we can win
07:48the championship that we deserve i think that that's the mode that uh that domico's in that this team
07:53is in that the defense has always been in because they've constantly talked this way and i like that
07:58i like that for this team because things that i hear a lot and we see a lot from fans is oh but yeah
08:03they still gonna lose in the first round they're still gonna be the same old texans this is the
08:06mentality that's necessary to uh to get and traverse that that uh that terrain of the playoff it is and
08:12i also feel you know domico ryan knows what the the next several defensive coordinators know okay
08:18who had success against them how did they have success well now you know it's pretty clear and
08:23there's not a lot of you know trey mcbrides out there but it's pretty clear like that is a route
08:28to success so he has to focus on right so i love it i love it from the coach and again it shows that
08:33this team is rounding into four man they deserve a lot of credit for getting themselves to this place
08:37because oh and three three and five it definitely didn't feel like this and uh they're they're not
08:41willing to just have this season the footnote on the season be oh well they won six games in a row
08:46and they you know they had fun and then they ultimately ended up in the same place now they
08:49still want to make uh waves as this thing goes along which i think we're all invested
