00:00It's stock up, the arrows pointed up, stock down, they're selling Mortimer, on The Drive
00:07with Sterner and Hughley.
00:10Every hump day right here on Sports Radio 610, soon to be the fan, 95.7, coming up August
00:1713th if you've missed that announcement, but every hump day here on Sports Radio 610 with
00:22The Drive, we do a little stock talk.
00:24Today's stock up, stock down edition, we're talking SEC football.
00:28Hey!
00:29Yeah.
00:30It's coming.
00:30College football is almost back.
00:32It is almost, almost here, going to make its glorious return to our lives.
00:36We all miss football a lot right now, but we're talking SEC specifically, and I want to get
00:41started with you, Ron, the show Hughley.
00:43As far as SEC football goes, let's go stock down in your view, Ronnie.
00:48Stock down, I'm going to go with Kellen DeBoer, the Alabama head coach.
00:55There's no Nick Saban.
00:58Well, that's a part of it.
01:00They say you should never follow the great one, and he certainly did.
01:08And he's clearly always going to be measured up to what Nick has done.
01:12And he's gone 11-4 in year one and then made the playoff in year two, and even won a
01:21playoff
01:21game.
01:22But the last time we saw them, they got just absolutely decapitated by Indiana 38-3.
01:29And I just think with this fan base and how people are looking at Alabama and what they
01:36expect from Alabama, I think he's, I don't know if he's on the hot seat yet, Clint, but if
01:45they don't make the playoff, nothing would surprise me with what could be for Alabama with
01:52them.
01:52And he's losing his quarterback.
01:54And it just does not seem like what we saw from him at Washington and the type of offenses
02:00they could put together, he's been able to put together at Alabama.
02:05And I know Alabama is a school, like we talked about with A&M the other day, that should be
02:09reloading, and they will.
02:11But it just doesn't seem like he has found his groove of type of players or his groove of
02:17type of players work in the SEC.
02:20And so, to me, I think his stock is down in where the program is, right?
02:26Yeah, look, I don't think there's any doubt about it, his stock's down.
02:29I mean, I saw him, SEC media days is going on, and I think he was asked something about
02:34national championships, and he kind of, yeah, national championships are important, but kind
02:39of just minimize the national championship conversation.
02:43And boy, he made waves all over the place in the media doing that.
02:47And so, yeah, you know, when you follow Nick Saban, the expectations are unrealistically
02:52high.
02:52And so, I don't know how Kalen DeBoer, after making it to a national championship game at
02:57Washington, in his current spot right now at Alabama, the stock is definitely down.
03:02Yeah.
03:02So, that is a roll-tied stock down for on the show, Hughley.
03:07We are talking SEC football, college football, very close to returning.
03:11Over to you, Clint Sterner.
03:12A conference you should know a thing or two about, given you were slinging it around in that
03:17conference.
03:17Two times.
03:18At one point.
03:19All second, second team, all SEC right there.
03:21Yeah.
03:22Love them pigs.
03:23Clint, stock down for you for SEC football heading into this new season.
03:27Didn't have much luck in Gainesville.
03:29In fact, I think I said a sack right down there, and I was the one getting sacked.
03:33I'm going to go with Florida.
03:35I'm going with Florida.
03:37I just, and this is more of a personal thing for me.
03:40You know, the power rankings have them anywhere from like 11, 12 area out of 14 in the SEC.
03:48And I'm going to tell you, man, Florida of old is one of them.
03:51You always hear me talk about A&M around here of just, they got different dudes.
03:56Like, it is significantly more difficult to be bad at Florida than it is at the bottom
04:02half of the SEC.
04:05You know, you're bad at Kentucky.
04:07You're bad at Arkansas.
04:08You're bad at Vandy.
04:09You're bad at South Carolina.
04:10Hey, you know, it's Mississippi State.
04:12Hey, man.
04:13It's a tough hill to climb being those teams in the SEC.
04:16Florida, it's just flat out unacceptable to be as bad as they are right now.
04:22I mean, they've got, they're a lot like Texas and Texas A&M in this state, obviously.
04:28I mean, who are we fooling?
04:30I mean, Ohio State's doing it nationally.
04:32But, you know, you got some of these teams that have the luxury of living and existing
04:37in a LSU, in a fertile, fertile, fertile recruiting ground.
04:41Whether you're doing it through the portal or you're doing it through high school.
04:47And Florida's one of them.
04:49And it's even better.
04:50I mean, there was a handful of years Florida State ain't been worth a damn.
04:55That's the other part.
04:56It's even bad.
04:57They should never look like they have less talent.
05:00Never.
05:01And it's not just their look, they're losing.
05:03Now, Billy was on some interesting stuff.
05:05It's not just their look.
05:06They look like they don't have as good a talent as some of these other people.
05:10Yeah.
05:11And me, it's personal.
05:12Maybe Florida's, I mean, obviously not what they used to be.
05:14But, I mean, personally, I mean, I just, I mean, they were one of the teams that when
05:17you played them, they just had better dudes.
05:19I mean, you were just going to, it was going to be an uphill period.
05:21I did this with Trey, my son.
05:23He said Florida would be his stock down.
05:25There you go.
05:27Great minds think alike, man.
05:28Well done.
05:28I bet Trey stock up.
05:30I think Taller and your father took advantage of you, too, wearing here.
05:34I bet you agree with that, too.
05:35Still don't know what you're talking about with that.
05:36You are tuned in, indeed, to the tribe, Sterner Hughley, myself, Tyler Milner, with you on
05:42a Wednesday, as we do every hump day, doing a little stock up, stock down.
05:46Today, we are talking SEC football.
05:48Just got the negatives out of the way.
05:50The stock downs.
05:51Now a little stock up.
05:52Back to you, Ron, talking SEC.
05:55I'm going to say the Oklahoma Sooners, and this year and beyond.
06:00I'll be honest with you.
06:02Clint, I was a little nervous for Britt Renevils.
06:05It felt like for a while, like, man, there's a reason that a dude has been an assistant coach
06:11for like 19 years at Clemson.
06:13Like, there's a, maybe he, you know, everybody's not the guy.
06:17And, you know, especially comparing him to Lincoln Riley, now, it ain't like Nick Saban
06:22for DeBoer, but comparing him to Lincoln Riley, they just even looked like they had the same
06:26dudes.
06:27They didn't look like they had normal Oklahoma dudes from when, you know, Bob was there,
06:32Stoops was there, and then Lincoln Riley was there.
06:36But now they start to look like they've got the guys that can run with the rest of the
06:42SEC.
06:42And I think their quarterback is really, really talented before he got injured last
06:48year and tried to play through injuries.
06:51I think they're a real dark horse candidate to make a run.
06:55Like, a team like Miami that you didn't know if they would be able to make a run, like,
07:01all the way to the title game, or a team like Ole Miss that was able to make a run
07:05as far
07:07as they did.
07:08I feel like OU could be that type of team.
07:11If we were doing OU with what their goals are, they damn sure have to be in the, we're
07:17going to the playoff thought process.
07:19So, shout out to Brett Venables for really kind of turning that thing back around, because
07:24they were the move with Texas, and it looked like they were falling really below a lot of
07:28these SEC teams, and now it feels like Oklahoma.
07:32Clint Sterner, former Razorback, sling it around for us, put a lid on this thing.
07:37SEC football, stock up in your view.
07:40Yeah, look, I'm going to go with Ole Miss.
07:43I mean, and the stock up has a lot to do with the fact that Lane Kiffin left, and Golden
07:49stepped right in and kept this thing moving.
07:52The arrows pointed up.
07:53The stock right now is as high as it's been in a long time.
07:57I mean, they're ranked above Bama, A&M, and Tennessee in power rankings this preseason.
08:03I don't know that that's ever happened, those three teams with Ole Miss being ahead of them.
08:09And the hype around Trinidad Chambliss is, I like the kid.
08:13I think he's a great quarterback.
08:14I do think he's one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
08:16There's a lot of folks out there that are leaning into him being the best quarterback
08:19in the country.
08:20That's tough for me to lean into.
08:22I do believe, however, they got the best running back, and that the Lacey kid is the absolute
08:27truth.
08:28And so, not only is it, I would bind, because I think they are legit.
08:38Definitely this year.
