00:00Time for a little stock talk on the drive.
00:03Sterner Hughley, myself, Tyler Milner, with you on a Wednesday in Houston.
00:07Today is an AFC quarterback edition of Stock Up, Stock Down.
00:11We're talking the quarterbacks, the guys slinging that rock around in the AFC ahead of the 2026 season.
00:17And I want to get started with getting the downs out of the way, the negatives out of the way,
00:21as I'm known to do.
00:22You're good. I like the enthusiasm.
00:24Yeah, personally.
00:26Stock Down for the AFC quarterbacks in 2026, in your view, Ron, the show Hughley.
00:32I feel like this one is, I don't want to say mean, but I just, I do not believe in
00:40this gentleman.
00:41And my stock down is Bo Nix.
00:44And I think, yes, they got him a weapon.
00:49And I actually like his cast, Cortland Sutton.
00:53Although, you know, he feels like he's been around now a long time.
00:58So maybe he's starting to get up there as well.
01:01But then they add Waddle to this group, and that's a big weapon for them.
01:05And they're going to try to get J.K. Dobbins back.
01:08And I think their offensive line is really good.
01:10And I think, obviously, despite how some people feel about him,
01:14they've got a terrific coach that helps them in a major way.
01:18But for me, Clint, this guy and the Broncos were 11-2 in one-score games.
01:26And a lot of those games would go as the same script.
01:31He, specifically, would play like hell for three quarters.
01:35Maybe even longer.
01:37Would struggle.
01:38Their defense would hold games close together.
01:40And then he'd turn into Brett Favre in the fourth quarter
01:44or the last eight to ten minutes of the game
01:47and just start making throws, one or two throws, that really helped his team.
01:52And he was a big part of that 11-2 record.
01:55I don't know that they're going to be as successful,
01:59and he's going to be able to do that as much as he did last year.
02:04I do think the cast around him is better,
02:06but I am just not a believer of Bo Nix.
02:10And it is – I'm not going to disrespect Bo
02:13and bring up a quarterback named Tebow in those times
02:19because I didn't – anytime Tebow came up,
02:22we'd just sit there, we'd be like, how the hell?
02:25He just won a game where they completed two passes in the game.
02:28Like, it's not like that.
02:30But sometimes you're like, how did that happen?
02:32But, I mean, he's played awful for three quarters.
02:35So, my stock is down on Bo Nix.
02:37I just don't think he's going to be able to have the fortune that he had this past year.
02:43Yeah, look, I mean, I was clearly wrong on Bo Nix in college
02:48after seeing him early in his career at Auburn.
02:50I thought, this guy's way overrated.
02:53And then he goes on and transfers and has a really good run at Oregon
02:56and had a good run last year.
02:58So, he's already exceeded my expectations.
02:59But, I say that to say, I completely see where you –
03:03where one could – you or anybody else could believe.
03:05Like, I just – this is just hard to buy into.
03:09Now, the Sean Payton piece is a game changer for him.
03:11Yeah, it helps him.
03:12I mean, Sean is going to – I mean, I don't know that there's a quarterback.
03:15Maybe, obviously, Andy and Pat.
03:17But, I don't know if you look at kind of Bo Nix and from a talent perspective,
03:24he's nowhere near the Pat Mahomes and the Josh Allens and Lamar Jacksons of the world.
03:29And I don't know that there's a quarterback in the league that is helped more
03:33by his offensive coordinator than Bo Nix.
03:37And so, you know, that could be his savior.
03:39But, yeah, I could see where you're at with that –
03:43I just don't – I don't see it.
03:44Stock down.
03:45I just don't see it.
03:46We're doing a little stock talk, stock up, stock down.
03:49AFC quarterbacks in 2026 edition today here on The Drive, Sterner and Hughley.
03:54Over to you, Clint.
03:55Clint, we got stock down there.
03:57Mr. Bo Nix up there in Denver.
03:59Clint, stock down in your eyes for the AFC quarterbacks.
04:03Well, mine's going to be a little bit of a buzzkill.
04:05But I got to do it.
04:07I'm going to go with Geno Smith.
04:09I mean, two years ago, boys, he was in Seattle resurrecting his career.
04:13Yeah.
04:13I'm telling you, man.
04:14Looked like he was going to quarterback a team that had, like, Super Bowl caliber, you know, potential.
04:22And, boy, that ship sunk really fast.
04:27I mean –
04:27Pete Carroll got up out of theirs all over him.
04:29One year stint.
04:30Yeah, one year stint with the Raiders.
04:32That was not good.
04:34Now he's in New York with the Jets.
04:35I don't see it getting any better.
04:37And I think there's some legal troubles off the field that may or may not bite him in the ass
04:42as well.
04:43So, I just – I know there's some bigger names out there that the stock may be down, or at
04:49least they may be backed into a corner here that I could have went with.
04:52But I don't know that the Geno Smith fall from – I don't want to say grace, but from resurrecting
05:01his career, boy, that happened fast.
05:03Yeah, it just – it just doesn't look like a great combination of, boy, this is going to work.
05:08Like, Jets, just that organization as a whole.
05:13I mean, their skills could be worse, I think.
05:17Yeah, I mean, but it just – it don't seem like that's a combination that is –
05:22Their draft was pretty sexy, right?
05:24Didn't they get the kid out of Oregon?
05:25Yeah, I mean, they had three first-round picks.
05:27They got –
05:28Sell them Jets, though.
05:29Yeah, they got – David Bailey was their first pitch to pass rusher, but they got –
05:32they got Kenyon Sadiq, who you want.
05:35They got Omar Ianna to go with Garrett Wilson.
05:38I mean, it wasn't that long ago the Jets organization drafted Rookies of the Year on both sides of the
05:44ball,
05:44and they didn't do much with that.
05:46No, yeah.
05:47I think one of them's already gone.
05:49I just – yeah, the – like, it just –
05:51No, they're both gone.
05:52No, no.
05:53Garrett Wilson's still there.
05:55Garrett Wilson's still their receiver.
05:56And his mom.
05:57Oh, that's right.
05:58I was thinking about Quentin Williams, and it was sauce and –
06:02Sauce and Garrett Wilson.
06:04By the way, I saw Aaron Glenn running in the neighborhood the other day.
06:09Really?
06:10Yes.
06:11A lot of head coaches in the neighborhood.
06:13I was sitting there.
06:14I pulled up.
06:14I said, I said, is that Aaron?
06:15That is Aaron Glenn.
06:17Yeah, you are surrounded by –
06:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:19They're running in there.
06:20You should have rolled your window down and gave him that hang in there, big fella,
06:24whatever that lady told you that time.
06:26Hey, yeah.
06:26Hey, that's what I said.
06:27Hey, man, you keep working through it, man.
06:29I know you guys will get a pick this year.
06:31Hey, I'm going to tell you, like, it's a different reason, but I'm going to tell you a quick message
06:34that the lady told me, man.
06:36She told me to hang in there and keep working.
06:37Hang in there, coach.
06:38Keep your head up.
06:38Keep that house here, though.
06:40Keep cruising.
06:41You'll get the right.
06:42Yeah, keep that house here.
06:43You are tuned in to stock up, stock down right here live on the drive.
06:47Sterner and Hughley, we got the stock downs out of the way.
06:49We're talking AFC quarterbacks for the 2026 NFL season.
06:54Time for some stock ups.
06:55Back to you, Ron.
06:56Stock up within the AFC pass slingers.
06:59Stock up.
07:00I'm going to go with Lamar Jackson.
07:02Lamar Jackson, the last two times he has gotten a new offensive coordinator in a new system,
07:10the next year he won the MVP.
07:12The first year, every time he got, they brought in Greg Roman.
07:17He won the MVP.
07:19And then they brought in, what's my man who's Cleveland's head coach now, Todd Munkin.
07:24They brought him in in 2023, and then he became the MVP that year.
07:29They're bringing in Declan Doyle, who's coming from the Ben Johnson tree from Chicago,
07:35who was the OC there, and they're bringing him in, and there's some new ideas there.
07:39And I feel like Lamar Jackson, with that crew, is going to have another big season and another bounce back
07:46season.
07:47And I think, at least with Derrick Henry, one more good ride with him.
07:51And so, to me, I feel like we're going to see a closer to the more MVP version of Lamar
08:00Jackson.
08:01And I think he's probably renewed with some of the changes and was probably ready to break loose from John
08:06Harbaugh.
08:07So, I think Lamar has a big season.
08:09Well, when you pair an offense that folks don't really know exactly what they're, you know, what is going to
08:17look like,
08:17what their tendencies are, and you pair that with a quarterback that you'd rather him stay in the pocket
08:24and not ad-lib and play off-platform, off-script, typically that's a –
08:31Yeah.
08:32That can be – he's been good in those scenarios.
08:34So, yeah, it's a good one.
08:35Yeah, I like Lamar.
08:36And stock up for you, Clint Sterner, with the AFC quarterback.
08:40I'm going to go with Malik Willis in Miami.
08:43Oh, wow.
08:44Interesting.
08:45Yeah, look, I mean, I just –
08:46I guess that one.
08:47I mean, when a backup quarterback gets a little bit of run and plays well, it's one thing,
08:56but when – for a short period of time, in a good organization, but you play well in a short
09:01period of time,
09:01then somebody decides they're just going to re-up.
09:03They're going to bring you in to be their guy, to be their starter.
09:09There's a real risk there, but the stock is really high for Malik Willis right now.
09:14And I don't know – and I honestly don't know.
09:17I don't not believe.
09:18I just hadn't seen enough to know, is he going to keep rolling and be more of what we saw
09:24in Green Bay,
09:24or is he more the guy that we saw struggle fresh out of college?
09:29I don't know.
09:30I don't know where he's going to land.
09:31But right now I know O'Halfley boy from Green Bay.
09:35He spent some time with him in Green Bay.
09:36Obviously knew what he was getting into.
09:38He took the Miami job, brings Malik Willis in to be his starter.
09:42So he clearly knows what he's getting into.
09:44That stock right now is as high as I think the Malik Willis stock has ever been.
09:48Yeah, he's getting his opportunity.
09:51There was a point there when he's coming out of Liberty,
09:54you wondered if he'd ever get his chance, especially in Tennessee.
09:57And he is getting an opportunity.
09:59And I will say this.
10:03His OC has experience walking into a place where it doesn't appear they have a lot of weapons.
10:13And a young quarterback that's having his first time starting,
10:17he's had some really good experience with that.
10:20Their coordinator obviously is Bobby Slowick, who was here with CJ.
10:27And at the time, like I look at their skills and I look at this receiving core,
10:32what they have right now, which is Malik Washington and 2 Atwell,
10:37does not seem like the crew that you're going to roll through as a good receiving core.
10:45But the big part, if Malik Willis has a good year, oh boy.
10:52Like, I'm not no-line, Tyler and Clint, that is a team that I am watching hard.
11:00Because of the Bobby Slowick?
11:01That offense, yes.
11:02If they have some semblance of, because they should not.
11:05They've got A-chan and nothing else.
11:10I mean, if I roll through this, boy, I mean, I told you the receivers,
11:16their tight end is Greg Dolch.
11:19I don't even know if that's how you say it.
11:21I mean, like they've got nothing over there.
11:24Yeah.
11:24And if their offense shows to have some success with him,
11:29whew, that's going to be a tough watch.
11:31You said it earlier, it feels like maybe they pull the trigger on that a little quick.
11:35Like, whew, like he should be terrible.
11:38Their offense should be terrible.
11:40And if he finds a way to have them competitive and playing well, boy,
11:44that's going to scream a lot.
11:45Or Nick Haley and them better be rolling through big time next year.
11:50So, yeah, that is one to watch.
11:53Someone text in, say, complete ass, take Clint.
11:56Somebody's on a roll, but I think it's the same person.
11:57What, stock up?
11:59Yeah.
11:59I mean, how is that?
12:00I mean, you may disagree that somebody else's stock may be high.
12:04His stock is as high as it's ever been.
