00:01Jesus. He gets us.
00:04You know, there are moments you don't need someone to fix you.
00:08You don't need another lecture, another opinion,
00:11or another person explaining what you should have done differently.
00:16You just need someone to understand.
00:19You need someone to recognize that you are tired for a reason.
00:24You need someone to see that the anger is covering pain.
00:29The silence is hiding disappointment.
00:33And the smile you're wearing took more strength than anybody realizes.
00:39That's one of the most meaningful truths about Jesus.
00:44He gets us.
00:46You know, Jesus understands what it's like to be human
00:49because he did not observe humanity from a safe distance.
00:54He stepped into it.
00:56He knew hunger.
00:57He experienced exhaustion.
01:00He felt grief.
01:02He faced rejection.
01:04He was misunderstood by people who claimed to know what God wanted.
01:09He was betrayed by someone close enough to sit at his table.
01:15Jesus knows what it feels like to love people who do not love you back.
01:21He knows what it's like to tell the truth and still be accused of doing something wrong.
01:27He knows what it's like to stand in a room filled with people and realize that almost no one understands
01:35what is happening inside of you.
01:37When we say Jesus gets us, we're not saying that Jesus excuses everything we do.
01:46Understanding is not the same as approval.
01:51Now, a good doctor can understand how an injury happened while still telling you that it must be treated.
01:58A loving parent can understand why a child made a bad decision without pretending that the decision was harmless.
02:07Jesus understands what those wounds can turn us into when they remain untreated.
02:20He gets us, but he does not leave us exactly as he found us.
02:28Think about the people that Jesus met.
02:32He met frightened people, proud people, dishonest people, grieving people, religious people, lonely people, wealthy people, sick people,
02:45and people who had made a complete mess of their lives.
02:50Jesus did not approach every person in exactly the same way.
02:56He comforted some, challenged others, asked questions.
03:01He told stories.
03:03He sat at tables.
03:05He touched people everyone else avoided.
03:08And he defended people who were being publicly humiliated,
03:12but he never told them that their choices did not matter.
03:18Jesus saw the whole person.
03:22He gets us.
03:24Most people only see one chapter of your life and decide they understand the entire story.
03:30They see your mistake, but not the pressure that led to it.
03:35They see your reaction, but not the years you spent trying not to react.
03:42They see the day you finally broke, but not the thousand days you held everything together.
03:50Jesus sees all of it.
03:53He gets us.
03:56He sees the things you wish you could explain.
03:58He sees the conversations you replay in your mind.
04:03He sees the apology you never received.
04:05He sees the moment someone changed and when something changed inside you,
04:14even when no one else noticed.
04:18But here's the lesson.
04:21Being understood by Jesus should teach us how to understand other people.
04:27You know, it's easy to enjoy the idea that Jesus understands our weaknesses
04:33while refusing to have patience with anyone else's.
04:38We want grace for our bad days and immediate accountability for theirs.
04:45We want people to consider our intentions,
04:48but we judge them only by their actions.
04:53We want someone to listen to our side of the story,
04:57but we're often willing to make decisions about people before they have even spoken.
05:03Following Jesus means learning to look deeper.
05:09He gets us.
05:11The rude cashier may be carrying news that changed her life this morning.
05:17The impatient driver may be trying to reach a frightened family member.
05:23The co-worker who seems distant may be fighting a battle he doesn't even know how to explain.
05:31And the teenager who says,
05:33Leave me alone,
05:36may actually be asking,
05:38Will you keep loving me when I don't know how to talk to you?
05:43That does not mean every action should be acceptable.
05:48It means every person should be treated as a human being.
05:54He gets us.
05:56You see, Jesus was remarkably compassionate about
06:01so much.
06:03And without becoming dishonest,
06:05He could recognize someone's pain
06:08while still calling them toward a better life.
06:12That's the balance we often lose.
06:16You know,
06:18some people use truth like a weapon.
06:20They say harsh things and call it honesty.
06:24Other people avoid truth entirely
06:26because they don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable.
06:32Jesus showed us another way.
06:35He gets us.
06:37He offered truth with love
06:39and love with direction.
06:42When Jesus met people who were trapped in shame,
06:46He did not add more shame.
06:48When He met people who were using power to harm others,
06:52He did not ignore it.
06:54He gave each person what love required,
06:58not simply what made the moment easier.
07:02Jesus gets us well enough to know that we need comfort
07:07and we need correction.
07:11Sometimes we need to hear,
07:14You've carried this long enough.
07:17Sometimes we need to hear,
07:19You cannot keep treating people this way.
07:23Sometimes we need to hear,
07:25What happened to you was not your fault.
07:31Sometimes we need to hear,
07:33What you do next is your responsibility.
07:38Jesus understands the difference.
07:42That's why we can be honest with Him.
07:45You don't have to clean up your thoughts before you pray.
07:50You do not have to pretend you are not angry,
07:53confused, jealous, disappointed, or afraid.
07:57Because God already knows
07:59what is happening inside of you.
08:02He gets us.
08:04Honesty does not frighten Jesus.
08:07You can say,
08:09I do not understand why this happened.
08:12You can say,
08:14I have trouble forgiving them.
08:17You can say,
08:19I know what the right thing is,
08:22but I do not want to do it.
08:25You can say,
08:27I believe,
08:28but I am struggling.
08:31And you know what?
08:32Jesus can work with honesty.
08:35What becomes dangerous
08:37is pretending.
08:39We cannot heal
08:41what we refuse to admit
08:42is hurting.
08:44We cannot change
08:45what we insist
08:47is not a problem.
08:49We cannot receive grace
08:51while continuing
08:52to perform for God
08:53as though
08:54He does not already know us.
08:58He gets us.
09:00Jesus
09:01gets us.
09:03Not the polished version.
09:05Not the version
09:06we present
09:07we present
09:07at church,
09:08at work,
09:09online,
09:09or around people
09:11we're trying to impress.
09:13He gets
09:14the real us.
09:16And somehow,
09:18after seeing
09:19the whole truth,
09:20He still moves closer.
09:22That may be
09:23the most powerful part
09:24of this message.
09:26Jesus does not love
09:28an imaginary version of you.
09:30He loves
09:31you.
09:32the person who has
09:34succeeded
09:35and failed.
09:36The person who has
09:38been faithful
09:38and inconsistent.
09:41The person who has
09:42helped others
09:43and sometimes
09:44hurt them.
09:46The person who is
09:47still learning
09:48how to live
09:49with courage,
09:50patience,
09:51humility,
09:53and grace.
09:55He gets us.
09:57He understands
09:59where you have
09:59been,
10:00but He also
10:01sees who
10:02you can become.
10:04So when you
10:05hear the words,
10:07Jesus
10:07gets us,
10:09do not
10:10stop at the
10:11comfort of
10:11being understood.
10:14Life
10:14is a lesson
10:16because
10:17Jesus
10:18understands you.
10:20You can
10:21stop hiding.
10:22Because Jesus
10:24forgives you,
10:25you can
10:26take responsibility.
10:28Because
10:29Jesus
10:29has been
10:30patient with
10:31you,
10:31you can
10:32become more
10:33patient with
10:34others.
10:35Because
10:36He
10:37sees beyond
10:38your worst
10:38moments,
10:39you can
10:40refuse
10:41to define
10:42others
10:43by theirs.
10:45Jesus
10:46gets
10:46us.
10:48The question
10:49is whether
10:49spending time
10:51with Him
10:51will teach
10:52us to
10:52become
10:52people who
10:53finally
10:54begin to
10:55get one
10:56another.
