Hmmm... WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Aroldis Chapman shared some thoughts (through a translator) after the 14th win. INDICTMENT on a certain player(s)??
Greg: "How they are behaving on and off the field... What does that mean?"
What are your thoughts?
Transcript
00:00uh gregory sandoval on instagram sent this to me and i would like you to hear through a translator
00:06aroldis chapman after the red sox had just won their 14th street by the way you two
00:10cotorse elevation we should get that in there at some point 14 yes i'm a music music guy uh here
00:16is uh aroldis chapman through his translator on why he believes the red sox are where they are
00:21what's this feel like you've been around for a while been afforded some streaks what's this
00:24feeling yeah no just really happy um really content about um how the guys are playing how
00:31everyone's um behaving themselves uh on and off the field in here in the clubhouse um how they show
00:39up to to the ballpark and um just really feel um happy about the way that uh we've been playing
00:46during this trip wow that is an indictment on someone or some individuals i think on and
00:58off the field how they are behaving on and off the field oh wow there you go what does that
01:07mean
01:07what does that mean i mean i i i i is is he referring to roman anthony and marcello meyer
01:15one or both like i don't think he's referring to linda yeah i mean that's crazy right there that
01:21he would say like you know say something along those lines is it crazy well i guess it's on and
01:26off the field and and what the red sox tell me or everybody tells me just marcello meyer is a
01:31guy
01:31who likes excuse me roman anthony more so than meyer is a guy who just likes to go out and
01:36have dinner
01:37yeah right well i mean i mean i said that went last week about you know if i was consulting
01:44him hey
01:44it's just a bad look because you're not playing you're injured if you're not playing well and
01:49people like no he's just going to dinner at you know six o'clock he's home by nine chime i
01:54gotta
01:54hear that again if i could in its entirety please from chapman post game last night what's this feel
02:02like you've been around for a while been afforded some strikes what's this feeling yeah no just really
02:06happy um really content about um how the guys are playing how everyone's um behaving themselves uh
02:14on and off the field in here in the clubhouse um how they show up to to the ballpark and
02:21um
02:22just really feel um happy about the way that uh we've been playing during this streak i would love
02:28to hear shyman i haven't prepped you for this so no rush but i would love to hear the ikf
02:32sound
02:33again too yeah um when he was citing what how weird it was and how why they were better on
02:39the road
02:39now ironically or unironically they are better now at home too yeah so on the road they were great
02:47and then he said at home there were all these people around right and now those people are in
02:51fort myers rough year for roman anthony holy guacamole but do you think ikf ikf was talking about him as
02:57well because he was hurt at the time and so i don't know how one or even if you want
03:03to throw
03:03myer into that as well because i don't i mean i don't i don't feel like there's been a bunch
03:07of
03:07issues around myer when it comes to off the field i think he's more connected to roman anthony because
03:13the opposite i think that people in the organization view myer is a bad influence on roman anthony yes oh
03:19they might they might i agree with you they might agree i agree with you but they might feel that
03:23way
03:24i just feel like are two young guys affecting the clubhouse of you know there's a good a bunch of
03:33veteran presence in there but again i think it's what is around them like ikf was talking about people
03:40being around the fenway park that they don't know who they are you have that audio go ahead
03:48i just feel like on the road we're a very close-knit team um we come home and there's just
03:54a lot of
03:55people a lot of people it's different it's just a different vibe at home and we got to figure out
04:00a
04:00way to to make it small like how it is on the road um i just feel like at home
04:04we see a lot of people
04:06that we don't don't know or you know yeah just don't know that around this area um and we're on
04:12the road it's just a
04:14close-knit group and we're becoming a really close team um and yeah we got to find a way to
04:20to bring
04:20that back home i mean i mean to me the two sound bites this summer are that and what we
04:25just heard
04:26through uh a role this is uh because i always am i have some trepidation using the translator because
04:32i don't know if it's exact yeah no no i think i mean that's yeah it sounds like and i
04:36feel like
04:36i speak i speak spanish i do too um i would say very simply a role this chapman doesn't mince
04:44words
04:45no he doesn't speak often i'm glad he does i'm glad he doesn't like that's why you need veterans
04:50around a baseball team right somebody who's gonna call guys out that was a four by four off the
04:55noggin of roman anthony well when he talks about and it's interesting to me because he talks about the
05:02way that everybody shows up at the ballpark like what we heard about roman anthony what we heard
05:08from roman anthony when he was on this show was that he learned from alex bregman you get there at
05:155 45 6 a.m in the morning you get started you get going early so i don't know i
05:21don't know if he's
05:21talking about roman if he's talking about marcello if he's talking about the two of them he was plural
05:27yeah and i think the the ikf when we at the time thought it was all the baseball nerds being
05:33around around the field but that's not what it was i don't believe nope so i i think that roman
05:40anthony wanted you to believe that it was our baseball nerds when in reality he kind of knew it
05:44was himself it's just it's an interesting thing to me because of you know it's just weird because
05:52it's spring training and i don't know maybe maybe it turns and this is the thing at spring training
05:58everybody was praising roman anthony and you know for being the first one in last one out great guy
06:04in the clubhouse very humble kid you know he's one of those kids that you know he understands the
06:10pressure and i'm not saying that uh chapman isn't is specifically talking about him or not talking
06:17about him but now i mean we've seen this kind of it's like roman anthony somebody's trying to or at
06:26least maybe it could just be us and when i say us people like uh mincing the words but they're
06:32trying
06:32to paint him as the pitcher as the villain now what are you talking about i it's both of them
06:37or we don't
06:37know who it is it could be marcello meyer it could be roman anthony but those are the only two
06:42players
06:42that we're talking about it's it's it sounds to me like it's both of them right and the person
06:47that's saying it is paid by the boston red sox through rope like if ever there was going to be
06:52someone that would cushion a blow it's a translator paid by the organization and what you just heard
06:57was the opposite well how do i and the only reason why i'm saying and i'm not this i'm not
07:02saying that
07:02he's not talking about roman anthony is but he could be talking about the team in general
07:07come on i don't so now roman anthony doesn't show up on time what else would he possibly be
07:14talking about he didn't say just to be clear he didn't say they don't show up on time he said
07:19the
07:19way they show up to the ballpark right the way he said the way they show up to the ballpark
07:24i mean i
07:24there that's the only difference is that the two of them are not around that's the only difference
07:31between the 14 game win streak all right and prior to that and and when you listen back as shine
07:37played
07:38the ikf audio like that stands to reason like well and actually i mean i guess you can include tristan
07:45cassis in that because he hasn't been but he hasn't been he's never been he hasn't been around all season
07:49and to and to be fair you know the win streak really started once marcello meyer got hurt
07:57i mean that times out more than roman anthony right being hurt and roman i mean when did he
08:02go to fort myers uh i don't know a couple yeah a couple weeks ago i guess that times out
08:08yeah but
08:08roman had been hurt all year long no i know but when he went to he was out of the
08:12clubhouse he was
08:13in fort myers i don't know i remember when that was which reads simply do wiggy and curtis have to
08:18argue about everything and no they get a they agree on many many things happens to be a couple uh
08:25back
08:25and forth things today but that's i mean that's what it's it's what dialogue is about uh an exchange
08:31of ideas and and wiggy's right about cora i mean you got to give him credit i mean yeah cora
08:36leaves
08:36wiggy was wiggy and sununu were the two people at the front of the bus on cora and uh and
08:44now you're
08:44sitting here and chad tracy who'll be on with us at this time tomorrow around nine o'clock yes can't
08:49wait for that wiggy's right yeah i mean cora left and you have to give him credit that they have
08:53been
08:53a much better team without him yeah things have definitely changed you know this is tc tc good
08:58morning good morning uh wiggy tough day back buddy uh i can't believe i'm supposed to you know not
09:05jumping on the curtis train but curtis having a good day um just uh just wanted to talk about the
09:12whole uh chapman thing basically what chapman's doing and wiggy i'm sorry but you missed on this
09:18one curtis got it he's basically he's a veteran he has a right to say what he wants to whoever
09:24he
09:24wants he's been there for a while you know in the major leagues and he's done a good job for
09:29the most
09:29part but basically what it is is it's like okay you guys have done nothing but you think you're
09:37everything because that's what the world's telling you you haven't done a thing in this game don't come
09:42into this clubhouse stinking like booze from the night before because you had a two-on-one or whatnot
09:47like that stuff you want you want to do that stuff that's fine you're 22 years old you got a
09:54lot of
09:54money god bless you but you've got to be a professional we're professionals you got to
09:59separate the business and the pleasure so you might have to tell those two hey tomorrow night we can hand
10:04it because i got to knock whatever it is right that's what he's saying that you guys got to get
10:08in line
10:08and when you act professional and you show up to the workplace professionally these are the things
10:14that come from it so get your little act out of here just like it's not the same but like
10:19when i
10:20told you guys before marshall was gone and swimming was putting up his nonsense i said how do you think
10:25marshall feels he should grab him by his ear and drag him around the locker room and tell him this
10:30is
10:30how it happens and then marshall leaves and what's marshall do he handled handles things the right way
10:35wins the cup but anyways the thing i wanted to bring to you wiggies you might understand it better
10:41if drew bledsoe handled himself the way maybe these young bucks are you don't have what you had
10:49that unbelievable game against oakland or whatever they were the raid is there right
10:54you might not be there if drew bledsoe decides to be a maggot instead he was a good teammate he
11:00had
11:01the the the ground pulled out from under him but he acted like a professional because he is a
11:06professional and for all the nitwits out there that don't like drew bledsoe i didn't have a childhood
11:11watching the patriots i had to listen on the on the radio because they couldn't sell out home games
11:15drew bledsoe came in and changed that so for all you clowns that want to talk smack about bledsoe all
11:21the
11:21time read the history books learn what it was like before he got here you know you don't have to
11:26like the
11:27guy but what he did is he put the patriots on the map and he and he and he gets
11:31no credit for it
11:32you know it you were there i give drew a lot of credit all the time tc thank you so
11:37roman anthony
11:38has nothing to do with group bledsoe i think he's trying to make the comparison he's just he's trying
11:42to uh change wiggies mind right um and suggest that the chapman comments after the game are all about
11:51roman anthony and marcelo meyer and that roman anthony isn't the type of guy that would necessarily
11:58take a back seat for what what's right for the team versus putting his own personal benefit ahead
12:05of the team but i don't these two are like apples to oranges roman anthony played in 30 games and
12:12during that 30 game stretch he stunk then he got hurt and he's been hurt forever right the marcelo
12:19meyer if you want to make that comparison i would ask this question i would say well you could maybe
12:25do that i don't know much about meyer i never heard anything negative about him in the clubhouse
12:30but all i heard about roman anthony was how great of a guy this kid was how humble he was
12:37how he was
12:38the first one and the last one out to leave how he learned from bregman he was a not like
12:44a leader in
12:45that in that clubhouse but a guy that was humble and knew what the expectations were for him was
12:50it first one and last one out at park city or first one and last one out of the clubhouse
12:54this is what
12:55everybody this is what everybody told us i never heard anything negative about roman anthony now all
13:00of a sudden chapman says something and everybody goes oh roman anthony is a problem in the clubhouse
13:09because he's out does it give you pause simply because chapman said off the field he said
13:19guys are behaving on behaving yes on and off the field like doesn't that give you pause no what
13:28that tells me is i think he's talking about though that those guys that are actually playing in that
13:33clubhouse who weren't doing the things that they were supposed to be doing and when i say when he says
13:39when he says off the field that's getting to the park early getting the swings in all right so
13:44nothing to do nothing to do with going out no no behaving off the field has nothing to do with
13:50going out that's what no no what else could it mean off the field means you're not doing the things
13:55that you're supposed to be doing right you're not watching the film you're not doing doing what you
14:00need to do away from the facility means behaving off the field no no i but see i take it
14:04as like
14:04not in game situations when you say and i think it was um it might have been roman anthony who
14:10talked
14:10about this doing when we need to watch more film right so those are things that might not be on
14:17the
14:17field situation remember he said that early in the season we got to do a better job of maybe watching
14:21some more film you know getting some more swings and like to me those are the things off the field
14:27right what are we doing because other than roman anthony and what is roman anthony done off the
14:33field there was a misdirection from the camp of roman anthony or someone or the the marcello meyer
14:38roman anthony orbit that said that the comments from ikf were related to analytics and in hindsight i
14:45think that was a misdirection but what has he done off the field that you would go okay roman anthony
14:50yeah him and meyer where they've been out gallop we've talked you and i agreed on this no no i
14:54said that
14:55they were out going to dinner and people are like oh they're home by 9 10 o'clock what's the
14:59big deal
14:59you and i said if they were going to dinner it would be no problem we agreed but going out
15:04until
15:042 a.m when you're hurt you said is a bad look no no i said i said not going
15:08out to 2 a.m i said going
15:10out period is a bad look because people already have a perception of you because perception that they
15:17like to be out on the town okay so work with me so roman so roman anthony marcello meyer like
15:22being out
15:22of the town the the organization has had this renaissance in his absence aroldis chapman ikf and
15:29and um wilson contraris have all in different ways discussed the vibe the issues the commitment
15:35in some capacity that to me is overwhelming evidence that what they're discussing is that
15:42for whatever reason it didn't mix well with roman anthony this year that the absence of him and
15:48meyer in and out has benefited the team i don't think that that is a leap i don't think that
15:53that
15:53is crazy to hear because if we're all taking if we're all being totally honest when we heard that
15:59quote from aroldis chapman we can play it again yeah we all had the same reaction yes we did
16:05wiggie said that's bad you that was your first because i was he was talking about the team i didn't
16:09take it as in roman anthony okay because we had this conversation curtis last week and we
16:14we talked about it and greg i think you wanted to on the side of like no one ever said
16:20roman anthony
16:21was running the streets till 2 a.m no no no i that started weirdly three weeks ago right four
16:27weeks
16:28ago whatever it was and i would i had i've never heard that argument about him right never oh the
16:34only thing that i said now there are you bring up the park city thing there are people who uh
16:40have
16:41on social media said there was some tab issue or something at park city not an issue he picked up
16:47the tab he picked up a tab i mean i'm the last person to be on the last call i
16:50have no idea okay
16:51so he was out at park city and it was late night okay so i didn't know the park city
16:55situation i mean
16:56i don't either that's just a rumor on the on the uh all i and the only reason why i
17:01said the roman
17:02anthony marcello maya thing as i do like everybody else is i don't think these guys are all over the
17:08town but the perception that we and i throw myself into this that we've painted of these two young
17:14kids is when they were going out having a good time and they were out with all the you know
17:19the
17:19girls and stuff like that so we have painted this picture of them and so instantly when when nobody
17:26has worked to paint it the other way nobody in the organization teammates management anybody well
17:32breslau did yeah what did he say he said he didn't care you should go out to dinner they could
17:37care
17:38okay i'm saying the the organization as in the players that he's with talking about the way the
17:45organization effed with him with his injury the conversation that we have heard now through ikf
17:49wilson contraris and or all the chapman all doing at the bare minimum allowing roman to sort of
17:56float out there not making it clear what it is they're talking about because greg you and i did not
18:02talk about it we didn't hear that cut until we heard it live yeah we had the same reaction yeah
18:06and i think the vast majority of the people listening to it had a similar reaction that is
18:10a wild audio clip to hear from a guy after your 14th straight win to bring up people that aren't
18:15there but why would they have to defend the guy when we when we heard from all these guys it
18:19happens
18:19all the time but when we heard from all these guys they talked about how roman anthony was such a
18:24great teammate right in the spring we're talking about months later now so what what changed what
18:32changed than the 30 games he played in that he hasn't come back that the teammates think he was
18:37healthy enough to play the players are playing through far worse but that's a different thing
18:40though so you're saying his teammates all the same no no you're saying his teammates think he's soft
18:44well yes i said that and you said oh no no no you said he was soft i did you
18:48never said i was crazy
18:49no no you you said he was soft yes and you said i was crazy because you're saying it but
18:54you never said
18:55until this very moment right here you never said that you believe his teammates think that he's
19:02soft of course of course they think he should be back that's why nobody defended him when sam
19:09kennedy made an ass of himself with greg calling him dr hill i mean it went when roman anthony went
19:14to rob bradford and was like this is my tcl joint and this is where this is he was on
19:20an island if that's
19:21anybody else people are out there saying this is absurd why are you on him like it's it's insane
19:27to me that nobody on the roster has said a word in defense of his toughness so how come you're
19:32the
19:32only person i have never heard this argument or this view i would say mon argument but this view
19:39from anybody else and to you that what that he's soft no not that he i've not you're the only
19:45one who
19:45said he's soft some some people do say that i but curtis no i'm talking about people early on i'm
19:51talking about like people that curtis is on the radio not necessarily roman anthony fan i mean you've
19:56been pretty i don't have i love roman anthony when i met him no no but i've never heard where
20:00any other
20:01athlete in boston that has this trajectory where they're expected to be the face of the franchise
20:05they hurt their pinky or their middle finger and it's now three months later but i've never heard
20:09any any other person in the sports talking world say that roman anthony's teammates think that he's
20:16soft because they don't defend them yeah i don't know that's my opinion
