00:00Yesterday at the end of the game, Wilson Contreras, this is not the first time, what was it, maybe 10
00:04games ago that we saw Wilson get booed for not hustling at a play.
00:09I obviously stuck up for the guy because he'd just gotten hit in the head with a fastball and many
00:13people thought he was dealing with concussion symptoms.
00:16And we had Chad Tracy on who seemed to say the same thing that Wilson's been physically going through a
00:20lot.
00:21And as a matter of fact, I believe Wilson even told him before that game, according to Chad Tracy, hey,
00:28I'm not going to be able to go full speed.
00:31I hope you understand that. And Chad was just like, we'll take whatever we can get from you.
00:35So there is an understanding, I guess it was between the two of them.
00:38But yesterday, let's first play this. So what happened was after the game, you see him talking back and forth
00:44to someone in the crowd.
00:46And here's what, when Wilson Contreras asked about it, here's what his explanation was.
00:50And nothing was inviting me to a dinner. And I was like, no, I was like, nah, I'm good with
00:55that.
00:57Huh?
00:58Where are we going?
00:59I don't know. He was, he was just inviting me to a dinner. I didn't, he didn't name any specific
01:03place or a restaurant.
01:06I'm sorry, but I thought that was funny.
01:08The guy was inviting me to dinner. I thought that was kind of funny.
01:10Now, I think most people are, have his back on this. I would love to, your next guest, I'm very
01:14interested to hear what happened here.
01:16Because this is going to further the story. But the only person who is down on Wilson is our producer,
01:19Stiz, who was like,
01:20he thought that was the corniest joke. It just thinks he's like, I don't know, I don't want to speak
01:24for you, Stiz.
01:25I just thought it was lame. Like, say the truth. Tell the truth. If a fan was chirping at you,
01:30then tell the truth.
01:30Well, we can see that.
01:31Oh, he invited me to dinner. Oh, he just invited me to dinner. Like, that's so lame, dude.
01:35Dude, that's funny, man. I thought it was great. He doesn't want to give the guy any kind of credit.
01:39He's just like, yeah, he's invited me to dinner. I said, no, I'm not going out to dinner with you.
01:42I thought that was actually funny. But afterwards, someone also asked him about him getting booed because, you know,
01:48there was a situation where he didn't, like, he wasn't running hard on that late ground out.
01:54And the crowd ended up for the second time in like 10 days, booed him. And here was his explanation
01:59on that.
01:59I'm not going to get hurt running ground ball. And if you're a real fan and you know baseball, there's
02:06no case for me to hustle out the box.
02:09I'm not 100 percent. We never are. But I'm taking care of my leg. If I have to run, I
02:15push a little bit.
02:16If I don't, my manager has my back and I talk to him and he gave me the permission just
02:23to, like, to do whatever it takes to take care of my legs.
02:26Actually, that's it. But I mean, yeah, I just don't care.
02:31Okay. So now I want to I want to get to our guest, if you guys don't mind, because there's
02:36a lot of speculation as to what was being said that got Wilson to run his mouth.
02:42And Kristen Mulroney, she is somebody who was right there during it all.
02:46I saw her post something on social media and reached out. Kristen, thanks for joining us. We appreciate it.
02:52Hi, thank you.
02:52So, Kristen, can you kind of take us through what happened and what you saw between even beforehand?
02:58Because it sounds like there was more before the actual Contreras thing happened, correct?
03:04Yes. So from where I was standing, this didn't really even have much to do with him.
03:09So I was sitting like four seats away from from this spectator that he kind of got into it with.
03:15And it started in the 10th inning, the pitching was not good.
03:20And there were some collective groans from the crowd.
03:23But this one guy, he stood up and he started to young stuff a little bit more aggressively.
03:29And it seemed like some of the pitchers took notice of that, which is kind of unusual because they usually
03:34just ignore it.
03:36And at one point, the guy stood up and pointed at Whitlock and yelled something specifically to him.
03:43He was like, and what are you doing?
03:45And Whitlock, like, very slowly turned and really, like, stared this guy down for a long time.
03:52Like, he settled in and got comfortable.
03:55And it seemed like the other pitchers were kind of taking issue with this guy.
04:00He kept yelling things.
04:01And then they're all kind of staring him down.
04:04Kristen, I hate to interrupt.
04:04What was he yelling?
04:06Like, what was he saying to them?
04:08It was really just kind of generic, like, you know, you guys suck kind of stuff.
04:12Okay.
04:13All right.
04:13There was nothing personal over the line?
04:15It was just kind of like, you know, you guys stink.
04:17What are you doing?
04:18There was nothing, like, personal, correct?
04:21So that's the missing piece for me because I don't know why they took such issue with it.
04:26Because, like I said, they usually don't.
04:28So I don't know if I missed something more personal or more direct.
04:31Yeah.
04:32Yeah.
04:33Okay.
04:33So you're drawing into pictures.
04:35And by the way, the video that you put up is exactly what you said.
04:38Who was it who was giving him the death stare?
04:40Was that Whitlock?
04:41It was Whitlock.
04:43Okay.
04:43That's why my video was only, like, four seconds long.
04:46Because that death stare, I was just like, I don't want him to see me recording this and get mad
04:50at me.
04:50Because I was intimidated in that moment.
04:53Yeah.
04:54It was Whitlock.
04:54And I have to look again and find out who the other pitcher was that was staying next to him.
04:57But they were locked in on this dude who was standing up and yelling at all of them.
05:02Okay.
05:02And then so take me to that moment.
05:04After that, what ends up happening?
05:07So then they're just kind of going back and forth.
05:09And to be honest, I feel like everybody in that section missed the bottom of the 10th.
05:14Because now we're kind of invested in this B-plot.
05:17Because the guy just keeps yelling things.
05:18And the pitchers are mad.
05:20And I didn't even know if he saw.
05:22Was Contreras the second out?
05:24Right.
05:24Second out.
05:25Yeah.
05:25Second out.
05:25Yeah.
05:25Okay.
05:26So, yeah.
05:26I feel like we totally missed that.
05:28Like, I don't even know if this guy saw the out.
05:30Because he was trying to pick a fight with the pitchers.
05:33And so it was probably right after Contreras got out.
05:36I actually saw Jaron Durant come to the top of the dugout steps.
05:39And he paused, thought better of it, and went back down.
05:43So, honestly, good for him.
05:44I feel like that's gross on his part.
05:47Wow.
05:47Okay.
05:48So he went up and, like, for a moment was like, you know what?
05:50I'm about to give this guy something.
05:52And then he thought better of it.
05:53Right?
05:54Yep.
05:54He's like, no, I'm dipping out.
05:56Good on Jaron Durant.
05:57You know what that is?
05:58That's gross.
05:59That's gross.
05:59That's gross.
06:00That is gross.
06:01All right.
06:02So he goes back down.
06:03Jaron Durant goes back down.
06:05And then is Contreras next?
06:06Is he the next one to enter the scene?
06:08Yes.
06:09Yeah.
06:09So I think right after that is when Contreras came over.
06:12And he really just kind of directly addressed the guy.
06:15And I heard the first thing he said was something like, like, what are you doing?
06:19What are you saying?
06:20Like, do you want to tell me what you're saying?
06:22And then they just had, again, like, very generic back and forth, like, just guy stuff
06:27across the net.
06:29And it didn't seem like it was anything that personal still.
06:33And then Contreras waved a security guard over and pointed the guy out and everybody
06:38clapped.
06:38And that was kind of it.
06:40So I was under the impression that he was just taking one for the team there and telling
06:43the guy to knock it off.
06:44I like it.
06:44So he was sticking up for his guy.
06:46So he walks into a situation where this dude is yelling at the pitchers.
06:50And he walks over there and sees that.
06:52And he's just like, what are you doing, man?
06:53And then they kind of do some generic back and forth and then that's it?
06:59That was the impression I got.
07:00And maybe the guy did say something to Contreras about what he had just done.
07:04But I feel like if that was the case, like, it was only a problem because there was already
07:09a problem.
07:10Okay.
07:10Was this guy a Sox fan?
07:12Like, what was he wearing?
07:13Or was he, like, a Diamondbacks fan?
07:16No, he was a Sox fan.
07:18Okay, of course he was.
07:19Sox spectator, we'll call him.
07:20Okay, okay.
07:21Was he wasted?
07:22Was he hammered?
07:23Could you tell?
07:24I don't think he was.
07:25He was with his kid.
07:27Of course he was.
07:28That's a good example.
07:29Wow.
07:30Yeah.
07:31Very good.
07:31All right.
07:32So, okay.
07:32So, you know what?
07:33I like that you clarified that.
07:35So, basically, in a nutshell, this guy's, like, jawing off at the pitchers who just blew
07:41it.
07:41Or not even the ones who just blew it, but, like, you know, Garrett Whitlock and someone
07:45else.
07:45I forget who was next to him in the video.
07:47It was Sandoval.
07:48Sandoval.
07:48Sandoval.
07:48That's right.
07:49Okay.
07:49And he was giving him the death stare.
07:50Yeah, and Guerrero was in it, too.
07:52Yeah.
07:52Not in the picture.
07:53But he was there with them, too.
07:54And they were all just kind of glaring at the guy.
07:56Yeah.
07:57Staring him down.
07:57And he's, like, what?
07:59Seven rows back, it looks like, in the video?
08:01Yeah.
08:02Something like that.
08:02Five or six.
08:03Okay.
08:04So, he's, like, five or six rows back.
08:05He's yelling at them.
08:06And I love how Jaron Duran, that's actually a cool story.
08:09Jaron Duran comes walking up as if to go, like, dude, I'm about to, like, unload.
08:13And he goes, I might want to think that one through.
08:16And then goes back down into the dugout.
08:17Yeah, just take a deep breath.
08:19Yeah, take a deep breath.
08:20That's right.
08:20You know, have a fresca.
08:21And then here comes Contreras walking out.
08:24And he sees what's going on and basically sticks up for his guys.
08:27Like, what are you doing, you idiot?
08:29And just, you know, talks to the guy in the stands.
08:31And then was there anything else you remember that might have set anybody else off, like, at that moment?
08:38No, I don't think so.
08:39Like, it was all just very generic.
08:41And, like, I can't even remember anything specific that anybody said because it was just standard, you know, you suck.
08:47No, you suck.
08:48And I don't know.
08:50I don't know what it was that made everybody so mad.
08:53Well, I got to be honest.
08:55That is, it makes me think of this in a different light, seeing that Contreras seemed to be sticking up
09:00for his guys, getting back at this dude.
09:03Yeah, thank you for your recap of the story.
09:06That was awesome.
09:07Good job.
09:08You're welcome.
09:09All right.
09:10Thanks, Kristen.
09:11Good stuff.
09:11I got to, I'll find that video and I'll send it to you guys to put up.
09:16But it's true.
09:16This dude's, like, yelling at the dugout.
09:19And Garrett Whitlock, and I guess it was Sandoval, had their back to the field and are just staring at
09:24this dude.
09:25Like, you've got to be kidding me.
09:26They're not saying anything.
09:28They're just taking it from this guy who's yelling at him.
09:31And I guess that's when Contreras came up.
09:33So what are we going to start doing?
09:34So these players are going to start fighting every fan that heckles?
09:37I think you owe an apology, Stiz.
09:38I mean, you're a little aggressive here on Contreras.
09:41You cannot have it both ways.
09:42Boston is a passionate fan base.
09:44In most other parks in the MLB, the fans wouldn't even have noticed that Wilson wasn't hustling to the base.
09:50So you cannot have it both ways.
09:52You can't say, well, we love coming back to Fenway because the fans, they're so energetic and they're so passionate.
09:57Yeah, they are passionate.
09:58And it goes both ways.
10:00You get the passion when you're doing great, but you also get the passion when you're doing bad.
10:04Stiz, I'm not pissed off that – as a matter of fact, I'm not pissed off at either side.
10:08That guy's got every right.
10:09I mean, they did suck.
10:10The pitcher sucked, or at least you had one pitcher that sucked.
10:13He's yelling at Whitlock.
10:13He's not even playing.
10:14Whitlock's not even playing.
10:15But I understand.
10:16He's got every right to – I've said that a thousand times.
10:18If you don't cross a line, you have every right to say what you want, and they did.
10:22But also, Wilson Contreras isn't Jaron Duran flipping a guy off or calling him a gay slur.
10:28He went up and was just like, what are you doing, man?
10:30Which I think he has every right to do.
10:33Yeah, like, come on, man.
10:35Just get over it.
10:35You know, I have no problem with that whatsoever.
